Abstract: An angle shear for cutting profile steel has generally parallel and spaced front and rear frame plates fixed relative to each other, at least one fixed blade carried on the front plate, a working slide displaceable vertically between the frame plates, and individual guide rails extending at an acute angle of generally 45.degree. to the vertical and secured to one of the frame plates. An angle slide displaceable along the guides generally at 45.degree. to the vertical between the plates carries a movable blade displaceable past the fixed blade. Formations link the slides for joint synchronous movement between the plates. Both slides move in generally the same plane and have front and rear faces directly confronting and engaging the front and rear plates, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4470330
Abstract: A tooling assembly for use with a mechanical impact press includes a pair of die blocks which effect cutting of rods, bars and tubes by the rapid misalignment of aligned apertured tools. Realignment is achieved by a reciprocable cam which also limits the extent of misalignment. Means are provided for clamping or dragging the end of a workpiece stock upstream from the prospective cutting plane. A wedge shaped recess adjacent to the aperture of the movable tool or die block provides a high degree of uniformity in workpiece length as measured at various points of a given workpiece. Where the workpiece stock is tubular, a floating mandrel is disposed within the workpiece in the upstream tool or die block while a reciprocable mandrel supports, receives, resizes and discharges the tubular workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4457197
Abstract: A device for cutting or stamping metal bars and sections comprising a machine frame having a slide which is guided for movement in a frame and which is driven in the direction of its length by an hydraulic or pneumatic drive which applies a driving force substantially along the longitudinal center line of the slide, a pair of tools one of which is connected to the machine frame, the other being carried by the slide, said pair of tools being laterally offset relatively to the line of application of the driving force, and the machine frame being provided with laterally spaced guides both above and below the tools for guiding said movement of the slide. An additional force is applied to the slide to oppose the torque which in use will be generated by the force couple which is formed by the aforesaid driving force applied by the hydraulic or pneumatic drive and the cutting or stamping reaction force which will be developed in use by the pair of tools.

  • Patent number: 4409871
Abstract: A horizontal hydraulic bar stock shear is disclosed having three spaced bolsters which are clamped toward each other by four tie rods. A piston and cylinder actuator is located on one side of a central bolster and a die set assembly is mounted on the other side of the center bolster. A pair of mounting yokes are provided adjacent to the associated bolsters and the die set elements are clamped at their ends against such yokes. The end-clamped elements include a pair of side plates which laterally locate the dies. A manually removable cover assembly closes the upper side of the dies and the dies are supported on spaced rails which provide openings through which debris can fall out of the die assembly.

Abstract: A device for cutting off a sprue of a parison with a bottom is capable of cutting off the sprue in a heating furnace. Cutter plates for cutting the sprue and an outlet for discharging the cut sprue are disposed at the bottom of the heating furnace. Cutting off the sprue may thus be performed without changing the usual molding cycle of the hot parison molding method. The device may alternatively be applied to the cold parison molding method.

  • Patent number: 4302996
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting the length of wire blanks in a wire cutting machine is disclosed, the machine including feed apparatus for feeding wire stock into the cutting machine, stop apparatus for engaging one end of the wire stock at a predetermined length in the cutting machine, and cutting apparatus for cutting wire blanks from the wire stock. When the leading end of the wire stock engages the stop apparatus with a predetermined pressure, the blank is at a proper length to be cut. The pressure causes the stop apparatus to expand radially. Strain gauges mounted about the stop apparatus detect the expansion by generating an electrical signal when connected in a bridge circuit. The strain gauges detect an over feed situation when the stop apparatus expands beyond a predetermined point. Similarly, an under feed situation is detected when little or no expansion of the stop apparatus is sensed.

  • Patent number: 4283974
Abstract: A bar end dropper for forging machines or the like is disclosed which automatically operates to reject blanks cut from the end of the piece of stock which are of unsatisfactory length and to adjust the feed when necessary to ensure that the ends of pieces of stock being fed into the machine are a sufficient distance from the shear plane of the cutter to ensure a clean cutting operation. As sequential pieces of stock are fed to the machine, they are positioned in the measuring position and the measuring carriage moves in to position a sensor a distance from the shear plane determined by the length of the stock. This automatically positions the sensor.

  • Patent number: 4205569
Abstract: High speed tube cutting apparatus provides die means for the simultaneous cutting of a plurality of tube segments from a length of tubing. Preferred embodiments are capable of cutting the tube segments in extremely short lengths and with the ends thereof formed on a bias. The improvements of the invention eliminate waste and enable the shearing of the tube segments to be achieved in a single stroke of the included die means. A further feature of the invention apparatus is that it provides means for precisely realigning sheared tube segments with the tubing from which they have been cut to facilitate their ejection under the influence of the advancement of such tubing.

Abstract: Method of producing a group of wires, W.sub.1, W.sub.2, W.sub.3 . . . W.sub.n, which have predetermined lengths L.sub.1, L.sub.2, L.sub.3 . . . L.sub.n respectively comprises the steps of guiding the wires from substantially endless sources of wire and locating the leading ends of the wires on a feed roll in parallel side-by-side relationship with each wire disposed between the feed roll and a separate associated pressure roll. The pressure rolls are normally spaced from the feed roll so that they are in a non-feeding position but they can be selectively moved towards the feed roll into a feeding position. The feed roll is started during each of a plurality of wire feeding cycles and during each cycle, at least one of the wires is fed by selectively moving the associated feed roll to its feeding position.

  • Patent number: 4152959
Abstract: A hot shearing apparatus for shearing heated round or flat section bars or rods, in particular light metal bars, to obtain cut bars or billets comprises a drive unit, fixed and movable shearing members, a drive means for producing the shear forces, an abutment means, an ejector means, and a transfer means for the sheared billets. Shearing rings are used as the shearing members. The ratio of the diameter to the length of the shearing rings is greater than one. Thus the diameter is relatively large as compared to the length. This permits high quality cuts and, at the same time, trouble-free operation of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4128027
Abstract: The invention relates to a shear for cutting-off sections of a profile material of the type having a stationary shear beam held in a housing and a movable shear beam which is arranged on a slide which is guided in the housing and can be displaced by means of a drive mechanism, each of the shear beams exhibiting at least one shear opening which is attached to the profile of the profile to be severed and with which are aligned inlet and outlet openings in the slide and housing for the profile material. Means in the housing define a recess in which is mounted the stationary shear beam and means in the slide define a recess in which is mounted the movable shear beam. The shear beams are arranged side by side in parallel and are removable from their respective recesses and, at least during severance of the profile material are biased by a biasing means together in a direction transverse to the direction of motion of the slide.
