Abstract: Apparatus for cutting cigarette packs transversely in preparation for recovery of the tobacco from the cigarettes therein comprises a first belt conveyor driven at a first velocity, a device for delivering the cigarette packs in collated relation onto the first conveyor with all packs resting on one of their larger sides and oriented lengthwise of the conveyor, and a second belt conveyor arranged coaxially with and adjacent to the downstream end of first conveyor to receive the packs from the first conveyor and driven at a second velocity, the second velocity being higher than the first velocity such that the packs become spaced apart end-to-end on the second conveyor. An indexing conveyor arranged orthogonally to and adjacent to the downstream end of the second conveyor receives each pack from the second conveyor at a receiving station. A photodetector detects the arrival of each pack at the receiving station and produces a signal indicative thereof.

  • Patent number: 4832677
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming draw tape bags wherein the bag material moves continuously during the manufacture, except for the last step. The apparatus may be used with an in-line system wherein a tube is extruded and a side gusset is formed to create a hem; or the apparatus may be used with an off-line system wherein folded bag material is used, and a continuous hemmer is provided to turn the loose edges. In the off-line system a constant tension dancer precedes the hemmer to maintain constant tension on the web regardless of the size of the supply roll. The web continues to move, and a cutter is actuated to move through a circle and engage the web to punch finger holes in the hem. A reel of a strip of material is continuously fed, the strip being slit longitudinally to provide the draw tapes which are inserted into the hems. A tape guide tensions the tape and assures that the tape is well within the hem, the hems are sealed, and the bags are side welded.

Abstract: A resaw has twin arbors with one to six blades mounted on each arbor. In addition, the resaw has a rotatable fence with a continuous belt along its periphery. Two side pressure rollers are mounted adjacent to the rotatable fence between an entrance to the resaw and the blades. A workbed of the resaw is made up of a series of spiked rollers. Just prior to an exit from the resaw, there is located a top roller which is mounted normal to the side pressure rollers and can move further away from or closer to the workbed. The arbors are each powered by an electric motor. The rotatable fence, the side pressure rollers and the spiked rollers are all powered by hydraulic motors connected to a single power source and all rotate at the same speed at any given time. The side pressure rollers are automatically adjustable so that they exert pressure towards the rotatable fence on any wood that is located between said rollers and said fence.
