The guide member has a first guide surface provided to be turned toward a large diameter side of the capstan roller in an axial direction of the capstan roller in a position on a larger diameter side than a portion having the smallest diameter in the tapered outer peripheral surface, and a second guide surface provided to be protruded from the first guide surface at an outer peripheral side of the tapered outer peripheral surface.

    Abstract: A machine for producing braid or circular knit fabric has a withdrawal unit for the continuous product driven by a synchronous motor receiving its drive signal from a digital frequency converter. A pulse generator connected with the main motor of the machine produces pulses representing the speed of the main motor which are integrated and applied to a multiplier introducing the proportionality factor between the main drive and the withdrawal drive. That multiplier has an output which is applied as the input to the digital frequency converter.

    Abstract: Apparatus for the manufacture of curved braids comprises a braiding machine provided with pull-out and take-up apparatuses. The pull-out apparatus includes a forming ring and a pair of driven frustoconical pull rolls having an adjustable nip. The members to be braided are formed into a curved flattened tube as they are drawn through the forming ring by and through the nip of the pull rolls. The curved braid as it exits the nip of the pull rolls is guided onto a take-up bobbin. A conventional tubular braiding machine may be used. Such curved braids are suitable for use in the manufacture of fibrous preforms for the manufacture of friction discs.

    Abstract: An apparatus for braiding a three dimensional form from individual fibers. The fiber is supplied on a plurality of fiber carriers situated in slots in track members forming a carrier plane at the base of the machine. The carriers are moved in a linear manner with the tracks and are also moved transverse to the track in columns formed by the slots in the tracks. Automatic elements are provided to limit the travel of the tracks and the columns to one, two or three discreet steps and to return the tracks and carriers to their original positions at the end of a braiding cycle. Automatic elements are provided to take up the braided form as it is fabricated. Elements are also provided for compacting the braided form periodically during the braiding process.

    Abstract: An apparatus for forming a braided covering over an article, such as a wire harness, which is continuously operable for forming a braided covering throughout the entire length of the wire harness. A sensor, operable in response to movement of the material being utilized for forming the braided covering, is actuable to control the operation of a mechanism for advancing the braided harness out from the zone of braiding operation to permit the continuous braiding of the harness throughout the length thereof. A detector, operable in response to the presence of deformations in the braided harness, controls operation of the advancing mechanism and braiding operation to detect, for example, breaks in the threaded material being supplied for the braiding operation.
