  • Patent number: 5819533
Abstract: A hydraulic motor has three interconnected power pistons. The pistons include passageways therebetween that allow a working fluid to be conserved upon reciprocating piston motion. Valves control the pressure state of working fluid within working chambers, which in turn will cause the three piston assembly to oscillate within the working chambers. The hydraulic motor is combined with a pressure source and an energy converter to form a hydraulic-pneumatic power plant. The energy converter converts pressurized working fluid from a single port into pressurized fluid passed through a first port and reduced pressure fluid passed through a second port. The pressure source is preferably pneumatic, which provides the necessary store of energy, or push, to initiate motion within the hydraulic motor.

  • Patent number: 4939981
Abstract: A hydraulic servo cylinder device for controlling a speed reduction ratio or clutch operation in a continuously variable transmission comprises cylinder and a piston slidably fitted in a cylinder chamber of the cylinder. The cylinder chamber is divided by the piston into a rod-side cylinder chamber and a head-side cylinder chamber, the rod-side cylinder chamber being supplied with a hydraulic line pressure, the head-side cylinder chamber being supplied with a hydraulic control pressure. When the piston is moved to a position near a head-side stroke end, the control pressure in the head-side cylinder chamber is so set that a hydraulic force which the piston receives from said control pressure is in equilibrium with a hydraulic force which the piston receives from the line pressure.

  • Patent number: 4579039
Abstract: A power drive unit for thrust reverser structure includes a reversible motor in a hydraulic circuit and has normal stow and deploy cycles of operation. In a deploy cycle, the load on the motor is aiding and, in the event the deploy cycle is inadvertent, the load on the motor can be substantially higher. In order to avoid this increased loading on the motor in an inadvertent deploy cycle, the hydraulic circuit has an auto-restow valve which senses the high aiding load in the event of an inadvertent deploy operation and changes the operation of the power drive unit to operate the motor in a stow cycle to prevent continued high loading on the motor and thrust reverser structure.

  • Patent number: 3967535
Abstract: A uniflow steam engine of the multi-cylinder type wherein the cylinders are rotatably mounted within a jacket having a sinusoidal cam track therein. Extending through slots, the ends of which are the exhaust ports in the cylinders and into the cam track are cam followers which are mounted on the pistons for reciprocable movement therewith. At the head end of the cylinders there are apertures which rotate with registered cutouts in superimposed valve rings that control the flow of steam from manifolds at the head ends of each of the cylinders into the cylinders as the cylinders rotate. By adjusting the relative position between the valve rings, the length of time of steam introduced on each cycle may be adjusted and by concomitantly rotating both valve rings, the initial time for introduction of steam may be adjusted to alter lead or reverse torque.
