  • Patent number: 6113367
Abstract: A cylinder is divided into two chambers by a wall to receive a pair of pistons. This reduces the stroke length and correspondingly reduces the linear speed of the piston. This leads to a reduced PV factor associated with degradation and wear of the piston rings. Moreover, the multi-cylinder arrangement provides the same performance in an oil-free compressor assembly without appreciably expanding dimensional constraints relative to known systems.

  • Patent number: 6089141
Abstract: The straightness of the piston of a water jet loom plunger pump for discharging water under a high pressure is maintained to allow its smooth movement with respect to the cylinder. For this, a roller guide is arranged at a reciprocal piston actuating mechanism unit. By forming a bent tube at a water discharging passage from the cylinder to a conduit, moreover, the resistance to the water to be discharged from the cylinder is reduced. The piston is given a degree of freedom to move with respect to a drive member connected to a pump cam and a lever. This enables the piston to move with the least resistance in the cylinder.

Abstract: In space exploration, an attitude control engine or a thruster may have an extended period, such as years, of inactivity prior to being required to complete a desired mission. The fuel for this mission is contained in a fuel tank for the same extended period of time and tends to corrode elastomeric components. To isolate the fuel from elastomeric components during the storage period, the fuel tank has a metallic shear seal. When actuated, a piston ruptures the shear seal and delivers the fuel to a power plant. A shear seal that is unitary with the inner walls of the fuel tank eliminates the need for an interfacial weld that may constitute a shear seal failure site.

A piston is located in each pair of cylindrical bores for reciprocal movement, and each piston includes two axially spaced piston segments and a bridge segment connecting the piston segments and attaching the piston segments to the wobble plate. Each bridge segment has a guide which is effective in the peripheral direction to contact a corresponding guide on adjacent bridge segments to prevent rotation of the pistons.

  • Patent number: 5701798
Abstract: The linear actuating device of the present invention has a rodless power cylinder unit with a cylinder barrel. An external carriage is disposed on the cylinder barrel and is movable along the axis of the cylinder barrel. A base on which a guide rail is mounted is provided. A slide table is driven by the external carriage of the rodless power cylinder unit and guided by the guide rail. According to the present invention, the external carriage is disposed on the side of the cylinder barrel facing the guide rail. This construction allows the external carriage and the slide table to be accommodated within the height of the cylinder barrel. Therefore, the height of the linear actuating device as a whole can be reduced to substantially the same as the height of the cylinder barrel.

Abstract: Piston rods are coupled to respective pistons movably disposed respective cylinder chambers defined in a cylinder body. The piston rods have distal ends connected to an end plate mounted on a slide table which is mounted for movement along a guide rail. When the piston rods are displaced by the pistons, the slide table is also displaced axially of the cylinder body. When the slide table is positioned at either end of its stroke, a load is applied by the weight of a workpiece supported on the slide table and the weight of the slide table itself to the cylinder body through the guide rail. The slide table is thus prevented from being unduly flexed under the load. The length of the slide table can be set to a desired length irrespective of an increase in the displacement of the slide table. Even if the displacement of the slide table is increased, the slide table is not flexed and hence remains highly rigid against flexure.

Abstract: An engine which employs a cam follower mechanism to reduce wear and reduce the size of an assembled engine. The cam follower mechanism utilizes guide rails located to reduce side thrust on the valve stem. The engine employs a high speed quill shaft to synchronize independent cam shafts existing in each of a plurality of interconnected engines. The engine is assembled using a single size fastener to provide a uniform stress gradient within the engine. The engines are interconnected utilizing O-ring seals. The engine provides a piston crown utilizing a connecting rod directly connected to the bottom surface of the piston crown. The piston crown is stabilized along the longitudinal cylinder axis by a rail guide. Connecting rods are provided which require less than one hundred eighty degrees (180.degree.) circumference of a crankshaft pin for support so that a plurality of connecting rods can be associated with a single crankshaft pin.
