  • Patent number: 8347580
Abstract: An improved structural member includes a pair of top flanges each extending along the member's length in a separated and opposed co-planar fashion, and a pair of similarly separated and opposed co-planar bottom flanges also extending throughout the member's length. At least two web members connect the lowermost surfaces of the top flanges to the uppermost surfaces of the bottom flanges, and at least one leg member connects these web members together and holds them in a spaced-apart relationship. The invention also includes cooperatively configured components for connecting the inventive structural members together in end-to-end and perpendicular relationships, and also strengthening members which may be added to or removed from the structural members, as needed. Additionally, components for attaching the structural members to other mechanisms and to conventional accessories are provided, so that a modular beam and scaffold system is formed.

  • Patent number: 8351362
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for waking a mobile station (MS) from a power saving mode to receive a media access control (MAC) management message (e.g., DCD/UCD, MOB_NBR-ADV, and SII-ADV) the MS has not yet received. The MS may wake from the power saving mode after detecting a mismatch between a set of media access control (MAC) management message parameters last received by the MS and the information found in an enhanced broadcast control pointer information element (BCP-IE) transmitted in a downlink map (DL-MAP). In this manner, the MS may be prevented from waking up unnecessarily, thereby providing high power efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8351542
Abstract: An apparatus and system are provided for crest factor reduction (CFR). Preferably, a peak from the wideband signal is detected. A gain from the magnitude of the peak and a threshold can then be calculated. Based on this information, each carrier's contribution to the peak can be approximated, and a cancellation pulse coefficient for each carrier from its contribution to the peak can be calculated. A base cancellation pulse can be calculated from the cancellation pulse coefficients for each carrier, and a cancellation pulse can be calculated from the base cancellation pulse and the gain, which can then be applied to the wideband signal.

  • Patent number: 8348919
Abstract: A disposable pull-on garment has a front waist region and a back waist region opposite the front waist region. The disposable pull-on garment also has a chassis and front and back waist members attached to the chassis in the front and back waist regions, respectively. The front waist member has a first retraction force and the back waist member has a second retraction force. The disposable pull-on garment also has a pair of side members attaching the front waist region to the back waist region, thereby forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings. Each of the pair of side members includes a waist zone and a hip zone. The waist zones have retraction forces which are about equal to the first retraction force, and the hip zones have retraction forces which are greater than the first or second retraction forces.

  • Patent number: 8347784
Abstract: A towable trailored standing tree baler provides independent maneuverability with sufficient structural strength required for baling large trees. A telescopic wheeled frame provides ground support directly underneath a tree branch compression ring and therefore provides a strong structural foundation for pushing the ring upward. The support wheels of the frame can be both steered and tilted so that the apparatus can be centered on the tree even on uneven ground. A compression ring lifting boom utilizes an interconnecting rotation arm between the end of the boom and the compression ring so that the ring may be positioned at a very low starting point close to the ground and then moved accurately upwardly with the circumference of the ring being held level and centered. A specialized lining material on the ring reduces friction against the tree limb bark and therefore reduces tree limb damage.

  • Patent number: 8350498
Abstract: A system includes multiple dynamic current equalizers (DCEs). Each DCE includes a first control loop configured to regulate a current through a circuit branch associated with the dynamic current equalizer. The first control loop includes a first amplifier having two inputs. Each DCE also includes a second control loop configured to regulate a control signal. The second control loop includes a second amplifier having two inputs coupled to the inputs of the first amplifier. The first amplifier has an input offset compared to the second amplifier. The DCEs are configured such that one DCE regulates the control signal while one or more other DCEs regulate the currents through the associated circuit branches based on the control signal. The DCEs can be configured to achieve one or more ratios between multiple currents flowing through multiple circuit branches, where the one or more ratios are defined by resistances coupled to the DCEs.

  • Patent number: 8352673
Abstract: A data writing method for writing data from a host system into a flash memory chip having a plurality of physical blocks is provided. The method includes configuring a plurality of logical access addresses and recording address centers and address radiuses for the physical blocks. The method also includes receiving data to be written in logical access addresses, determining opened physical blocks among the physical blocks, and writing the data into the flash memory chip based on the logical access addresses, and the address centers and the address radiuses of the opened physical blocks. Accordingly, the method can effectively reduce the degree of data dispersion of each of the physical blocks, reduce the time for organizing valid data, and increase the speed for writing data.

  • Patent number: 8348606
Abstract: An enhanced pump assembly includes an impeller and volute casing designed to provide high operating pressures (“P”) and flow rates (“Q”) with low energy usage. The impeller has a central shaft carrying radially projecting curved primary vanes, and each primary vane also has a twist in the radial direction. Secondary impeller vanes define triangular connecting fillet-like wall segments connecting each primary vane to the impeller shaft. The casing of the pump has a slight spiral deviation so that the pump chamber's radial sidewall flares away from the swept area of the impeller's vanes to define a fluid outlet that contributes to higher P-Q performance, especially when pumping colder fluids.

  • Patent number: 8347653
Abstract: The device for homogenizing a glass melt has a melt receptacle and at least one stirring device arranged in the melt receptacle. Each stirring device consists of a stirrer shaft and stirrer blades extending toward an inside wall of the receptacle, which are configured to produce an axial feed of the glass melt in an inner stirring region between the stirrer shaft and front ends of the stirrer blades. The melt receptacle and the stirring device are configured so that a melt flow caused by the axial feed, which is opposite to the axial feed, seals a gap formed between the inside wall and the front ends of the stirrer blades, so that the glass melt cannot flow directly through the gap to a lower axial end of the inner stirring region. The invention also encompasses a method of homogenizing a glass melt.

  • Patent number: 8350632
Abstract: A dipole oscillation tank circuit includes a first capacitive structure, an inductive structure, and a second capacitive structure connected in series. The tank circuit transfers electric energy back and forth between the capacitive structures in dipole oscillation cycles. A renewal circuit injects energy into the tank circuit to replenish energy lost during the oscillation cycles. A switch is connected in parallel across the first capacitive structure and in parallel across the inductive structure and the second capacitive structure. During one phase of the oscillation cycles, the switch is opened for current to flow through the first capacitive structure and the inductive structure, and then closed to bypass the first capacitive structure. During another phase of the oscillation cycles, the switch is closed to bypass the first capacitive structure and then opened for current to flow through the first capacitive structure and the inductive structure.

  • Patent number: 8349110
Abstract: Defects in walls need to be repaired and need to be repaired so that the wall does not appear to have had a defect in the wall. This is particularly difficult when texture is on the wall. • Patent number: 8351799
Abstract: A method for multiscale sampling for wide dynamic range electro-optic receivers is presented. The method comprises obtaining a signal, reproducing the signal into first and second signals, scaling one signal with respect to the other, modulating both signals with the same modulation function, and utilizing the resulting vector response function to invert the response of the link over a greater dynamic range than would otherwise be possible with a single instance of the modulated signal. The sealed modulation response may be obtained by splitting the signal into two polarizations and utilizing a modulator having different response for the two polarizations, or by utilizing two modulators.
