Abstract: A near-field optical head has a slider with first and second inclined surfaces that confront a magnetic recording medium during recording and reproduction of information. A recording element is formed on one of the first and second inclined surfaces and includes main and auxiliary magnetic poles stacked together with an insulation film interposed therebetween. An optical flux introducing device introduces an optical flux toward the first and second inclined surfaces of the slider, the optical flux having an optical axis inclined relative to the first and second inclined surfaces. A metal film is formed on the other of the first and second inclined surfaces of the slider for propagating the introduced optical flux along an interface between the first and second inclined surfaces to generate near-field light that is irradiated on the surface of the magnetic recording medium to effect recording and reproduction of information.

Abstract: A roll mill for a milling-dispersing treatment has a fixed roll fixed to a frame, and a transfer roll displaceable into and out of contact with the fixed roll in a direction perpendicular to the fixed roll by a servomotor and a ball screw. A laser sensor disposed between the fixed roll and the transfer roll measures the distance between the rolls, and a load sensor measures a pressing force between the rolls. An electronic automatic control device maintains a constant distance and a constant pressing force between the fixed roll and the transfer roll by feedback of detection signals sent from the respective sensors, wherein the servomotor is driven by the electronic automatic control device to adjust the position of the transfer roll.
Abstract: A method for producing a carbon nanocomposite metal material with increased carbon nanomaterial dispersibility and increased binding between carbon nanomaterial and matrix metal stock is disclosed. A preform obtained by mixing a matrix metal stock and microparticulate-coated carbon nanomaterial without the need for a dispersant and then compacting the material is maintained for a set time period at a temperature that is at or above the melting point of the matrix metal stock. In this state, the heat-treated body is reduced to a temperature that allows hot working, and a compacting treatment is performed.
Abstract: A color filter substrate has unit pixels each having an area of 0.1 mm2 or more. Each unit pixel is formed of sub-pixels having a different color from one another and having areas that are substantially equal to one another. Each sub-pixel is formed of a continuous planar region having a maximum line width that does not exceed 150 ?m. The sub-pixels are configured with a shape such that the sub-pixels form a preselected engagement pattern via which the adjacent sub-pixels engage one another.
Abstract: A thermal head has a heat storage layer bonded onto a surface of the substrate, a heating resistor provided on the heat storage layer, and a pair of electrode portions connected to the heating resistor. The heating resistor has a heating portion which does not overlap the pair of electrode portions. A hollow portion is provided in a region of at least one of the surface of the substrate and a surface of the heat storage layer, the region being opposed to the heating resistor. A center line of the hollow portion is shifted with respect to a center line of a heating portion of the heating resistor.
Abstract: An ink cartridge has an ink bag which changes in thickness in accordance with a change in an amount of ink. The bag is accommodated in a housing having a guide groove and a window portion. A plate is mounted on the bag for movement therewith and has a pin undergoing movement in the guide groove during movement of the plate. A reflecting plate with a first reflectivity is displayed by the window when bag contains ink. A slide member has a reflecting portion with a second reflectivity different from the first reflectivity and engages the plate pin for sliding movement relative to the housing during movement of plate pin. In a first position relative to the housing, the slide member does not cover the window portion and the reflecting plate is displayed from the window portion which corresponds to a state in which the bag contains ink.
Abstract: A pressure buffer is disposed in an ink supply path that connects an ink supply source to an ink-jet head to suppress pressure fluctuations due to vibrations created by movement of a carriage. The pressure buffer includes a chamber having an ink flow inlet through which ink flows from the ink supply source into the chamber and an ink flow outlet through which the ink flows from the chamber to the ink-jet head. A partition wall disposed within the chamber extends at least partly along a side wall of the chamber to define an ink flow path that communicates at its upper end with the chamber and at its lower end with the ink flow outlet. A through-opening is provided in the partition wall in the vicinity of the ink flow outlet and through which the ink flows between the ink flow path and the chamber to suppress pressure fluctuations in the ink flow path. Alternatively, an air pocket may be provided in the partition wall in the vicinity of the ink flow outlet to reduce presure fluctuations in the ink flow path.
Abstract: A head chip has an actuator plate having a plurality of grooves, a drive electrode formed on each of the side walls of the grooves, and a cover plate which has an introduction aperture. A nozzle plate is fixed to an end surface of the actuator plate through an adhesive and has a plurality of nozzles which communicate with respective ones of the grooves. A number of escape holes are formed between the nozzle plate and the actuator plate, corresponding in number to the number of nozzles, and each escape hole has a contour which surrounds a periphery of each nozzle with the contour being spaced apart from a contour of each nozzle by at least a given distance so that the adhesive remaining at the time of fixing the nozzle plate is accumulated in the escape holes.

A displacement detecting portion detects a displacement of the cantilever portion according to an interaction between a sample and the probe portion. Abstract: A pressure regulating valve comprises a first pressure deformation portion which receives a pressure on a fuel demand side, a second pressure deformation portion opposed to the first pressure deformation portion and which receives a predetermined pressure, first and second flow passages, and a communication passage for allowing the first and second flow passages to communicate with each other. The first and second flow passages and the communication passage are provided in a space between the first and second pressure deformation portions. A valve member has a connecting portion which extends through the communication passage and connects the first and second pressure deformation portions together, and has a valve element which is provided at the connecting portion and closes the communication passage when moved toward the second pressure deformation portion.

Abstract: To provide a method of effectively reducing the amount of ink droplets remaining on a nozzle surface after a cleaning operation, and an inkjet recording apparatus capable of shortening an entire processing time of an initial filling operation and a cleaning operation by shortening an ink discharge operation time. By providing a partition wall so that a suction port and an atmosphere opening port provided on a back side of a porous sheet placed in a cap are not directly communicated with each other, in an ink discharge operation in the cap, air having entered through the atmosphere opening port flows through a space between the porous sheet and the nozzle surface, and thereafter, flows to the suction port via the porous sheet. Therefore, ink droplets remaining adhering to the nozzle surface can be removed using the force of air flow.
Abstract: A stepping motor control circuit includes a rotation detecting means which detects an induced signal generated by rotation of a rotor of a stepping motor, and detects a rotation state of the stepping motor according to whether the induced signal exceeds a predetermined reference threshold voltage in a predetermined detection section, and a control means which controls driving of the stepping motor by using any one of a plurality of main driving pulses having energies different from each other or a correction driving pulse with energy higher than energy of each main driving pulse according to a detection result of the rotation detecting means. Abstract: An electronic apparatus has a display portion, and first and second oscillating circuits each having a quartz crystal resonator, the quartz crystal resonator of each of the first and second oscillating circuits vibrating in a different mode from each other. One of the quartz crystal resonators is a quartz crystal tuning fork resonator having first and second tuning fork tines. Electrodes are disposed on side surfaces of each of the first and second tuning fork tines so that the electrodes of the first tuning fork tine have an electrical polarity opposite to an electrical polarity of the electrodes of the second tuning fork tine. The capacitance ratio r1 of a fundamental mode of vibration of the quartz crystal tuning fork resonator is less than a capacitance ratio r2 of a second overtone mode of vibration thereof. An output signal of the oscillating circuit having the quartz crystal tuning fork resonator is a clock signal used to display time information at the display portion of the electronic apparatus.

Abstract: A head chip for a liquid jet recording device has a pair of piezoelectric elements that form a liquid jet channel therebetween, a common electrode formed on a surface of each piezoelectric element on the liquid jet channel side, and a drive electrode formed on an opposite surface of the piezoelectric element. A cover plate is joined so as to cover a common terminal connected to the common electrode, and an integrated wiring that integrates and electrically connects all of the common terminals is formed on a surface of the cover plate. The integrated wiring is connected to the common terminals through the contact plugs formed in through-holes of the cover plate. Integrated terminals connected to the integrated wiring and drive terminals connected to the drive electrodes are arranged in line at an end of an actuator plate.
