  • Patent number: 5574387
Abstract: A method for detecting a departure from normal operation of an electric motor comprises obtaining a set of normal current measurements for a motor being monitored; forming clusters of the normal current measurements; training a neural network auto-associator using the set of normal current measurements; making current measurements for the motor in operation; comparing the input and output of the auto-associator; and indicating abnormal operation whenever the current measurements deviate more than a predetermined amount from the normal current measurements. The method models a set of normal current measurements for the motor being monitored, and indicates a potential failure whenever measurements from the motor deviate significantly from a model. The model takes the form of an neural network auto-associator which is "trained"--using clusters of current measurements collected while the motor is known to be in a normal operating condition--to reproduce the inputs on the output.

  • Patent number: 5570404
Abstract: A method for automatically editing a plurality of CT image slices to provide a three dimensional view of a selected object located within a patient's body comprises providing at least one slab of CT image slices produced by CT scanning system and computing a top MIP image of the slab. An undesirable object is automatically removed from the top MIP image by first detecting all the pixels having illuminating intensity values which represent the undesirable object. Then all the pixels of the object to be removed are set to a substantially zero illuminating intensity value in order to remove the object from the top MIP image of the slab. After the undesirable object is removed from the top MIP image, the edits made thereto are applied to each CT image slice in the slab. The present invention also includes apparatus for performing a 3D reconstruction of CT angiographic images to visualize a selected object located within a patient's body.

  • Patent number: 5479572
Abstract: An artificial neural network (ANN) classifier provides a series of outputs indicative of a series of classes to which input feature vectors are classified. The ANN provides only one output for each input feature vector to partition said input into one class. The one output of the classifier is coupled to the interrupt input of an associated digital computer or CPU. Upon receipt of the output, the CPU immediately interrupts a main program and executes an interrupt service routine which is triggered by the output of the classifier. In this manner, the CPU is immediately accessed in the interrupt mode by the transition of one of the output class processing elements when activated.

  • Patent number: 5464793
Abstract: A method of forming a capped and borderless contact of polysilicon on a body of a semiconductor material includes depositing a layer of undoped polysilicon on the surface of the body and forming an opening therethrough to the surface of the body. The side walls of the opening are then coated with a layer of silicon nitride and the opening is then filled with doped polysilicon which forms the contact. The doped and undoped polysilicon are heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to grow a layer of silicon dioxide thereon having a thicker portion over the doped polysilicon then over the undoped polysilicon. The silicon dioxide layer is etched to remove the thinner portion leaving the thicker portion over the doped polysilicon as a capping layer. The undoped polysilicon is then etched away and a layer of a dielectric material is deposited on the body and surrounding the doped polysilicon contact.

  • Patent number: 5439831
Abstract: Shallow junction field effect transistors are made by a low temperature process comprising ion implanting source/drain regions through a buffer layer in two steps, the first an ion implant at high dosage and low energy and the second an ion implant at low dosage and high energy. Ion implantation through the buffer layer avoids crystallographic damage to the silicon substrate.By grading the sidewall spacers of the gate electrode, more or fewer ions can be implanted through the spacer foot to ensure continuity between the source/drain regions and the channel region under the gate electrode.

  • Patent number: 5418849
Abstract: A procedure and device are described for cancellation of the echo produced in telephone connections with electrical time-variant characteristics such as for example those affected by phase roll. The echo canceller obtained in accordance with the procedure which is the object of this invention produces an estimate of the echo signal by means of appropriate digital filtering of the signal originated by the far-end talker. The estimated echo is then subtracted from the actual echo. Filtering is activated by an IIR digital filter whose adaptive coefficients are updated by use of an adaptive algorithm based on decimation of the square error. The high convergence speed of said algorithm in the calculation of the coefficient correction step allows a correct estimate of the echo even in case of connections affected by phase roll.
