  • Patent number: 4364690
Abstract: A smoothing screed is used with a road finishing machine for setting roadmaking material when the surface of a road pavement, which has been damaged by tracks or depressions worn therein, is renewed. The smoothing screed is of adjustable width and profile and has a central main screed from which adjusting screeds may be drawn out laterally. There is further provided a central ridge profile adjustment device, which allows the central portion of the main screed to be adjusted so as to be lower than the ends of the main screed, and two further adjustment devices at the ends of the main screed, which allow the outer ends of the adjusting screeds to be adjusted so as to be lower than the ends of the main screed.

  • Patent number: 4361449
Abstract: A process for the preparation of pre-melted, basic welding powder for the submerged arc welding process which consists of preparing two components, one component containing substantially oxidic compounds and maximally 5% by weight of fluoridic compounds, and the other component containing substantially fluoridic compounds and maximally 5% by weight of oxidic compounds, with the total of oxidic and fluoridic compounds corresponding to the desired analytical composition of the powder. Each of the two compounds are melted separately and, the premelted components are cooled. The cooled product is then ground to the desired grain size and thereafter mixed. The welding powders according to the invention are distinguished by a particularly low moisture content.

  • Patent number: 4359919
Abstract: A rotary punch for punching envelope blanks from moving webs of paper or like or for making shaped cuts from prepared envelope blanks has a backup roll which bears on a cutter roll. The punch is characterized by the provision of intermediate bearings with an adjustable member therebetween. This precludes unwanted movements in the bearings between the two rolls due to varying cutting and out-of-balance forces, the adjustable member making it possible to correct the between-axes distance to suit cutter wear.

  • Patent number: 4358959
Abstract: A method of measuring the rigidity, the damping coefficient and the inertia of a system consisting of a damped, spring-supported mass, particularly, the manually operable member of the control-system of an aircraft or a flight simulator, in which method the measurement of the rigidity takes place by determining the relationship between the force exerted on the mass and the deviation of the mass from the state of equilibrium at a speed and an acceleration of substantially zero value and storing the relationship. The method is characterized by the initial step of forming three electric signals--namely, a force signal having a value directly proportional to the force exerted on the mass, an acceleration signal having a value directly proportional to the acceleration of the mass, and a velocity signal having a value directly proportional to the speed of the mass.

  • Patent number: 4356964
Abstract: A thermic control element has a plate-like wall part and a membrane member which is peripherally coupled therewith which, on its one side, supports a locking element and, on its other side, a counter plate facing the wall part. The locking element, the membrane member and the counter plate are rigidly coupled with each other in their central area and the wall part has a cup-shaped curvature with a support face for the outer edge zone of the counter plate. An expansion medium is contained in a receiving chamber formed between the wall part and the membrane member. In the open end position of the locking element, the locking element and the wall part are provided with corresponding cooperating stroke engaging faces and, in the locking element closing position, the axial distance between the stroke engagement faces of the locking element and the wall part is smaller than the axial distance between the support face and the outer edge zone of the counter plate.

  • Patent number: 4352098
Abstract: A surveillance system transmits a microwave carrier signal through a surveillance zone (14). Two low frequency energy fields are also established in the zone being produced by respective pairs of closely spaced apart low frequency signals radiated from opposite sides of the zone. A receptor reradiator in the zones receives these signals and reradiates a reply signal to a receiver the reply signal consisting of the microwave carrier signal amplitude modulated in accordance with the instantaneous value of the low frequency fields at the location of the receptor reradiator. The receiver separates out preselected intermodulation products and activates an alarm only when the preselected intermodulation products are present.

  • Patent number: 4349582
Abstract: A method for coating the interior of electrically non-conductive pipes by means of a reactive separation from a gas flowing through the pipe, whereby the gas is dissociated by an electrical gas discharge, and wherein the separation occurs simultaneously throughout the total pipe length. Pulse discharges are used having pulse lengths which are so adjusted to the transit time of the gas through the pipe that the time period between two successive pulses corresponds to the time which is required for filling the pipe with unused gas.

  • Patent number: 4347876
Abstract: The invention relates to the handling of particulate materials such as foundry molding sand requiring cooling. The operating vessel has an inlet, through which material is charged to flow-downwardly in the vessel against an upward flow of pressurized fluid, usually air, there being provided sensing and signalling probes to sense the height of the fluidized material in the vessel at a pedetermined maximum level in the vessel and at a predetermined minimum level. These sensing and signalling probes control the outlet of cooled sand from the bottom of the vessel, stopping it when the minimum level is sensed and re-commencing discharge when the maximum level is reached.
