Abstract: Generally, the present invention relates to medical devices and a method of vision screening, and more particularly to a pediatric vision screening system and method thereof that identifies a risk factor for amblyopia or diagnoses amblyopia by measurement of microstrabismus. An embodiment of the invention is directed to a method of patient screening for risk factors for amblyopia which includes the steps of illuminating the eye with polarized light, scanning the polarized light about the eye, capturing the retro-reflected light emanating back from the eye, analyzing the retro-reflected light to determine ocular misalignment; and calculating a metric to determine if the patient passes or fails the screening test thereby providing an indication that the patient may have a risk of amblyopia based on either strabismus or anisometropia. The method is effective at detecting amblyopia related to focusing problems without the measuring the focus of the eye directly.
Abstract: An automatic handset lifter is used with a wireless communication system. The system attaches to a conventional telephone and creates a communication link between the telephone and a portable device such as a wireless headset. The system automatically detects the ringing of the telephone by sensing magnetic fields of the telephone speaker. Upon ring detection, the system creates a communications link with the remote device and deploys a mechanical lifting device to lift the handset. Lifting the handset activates the telephone cradle switch to answer the phone and thereby allows the remote device to communicate over the telephone.

Abstract: A miter joint clamp comprises a base and a sled mounted on the base for linear movement with respect to the base. The base has a planar top side, and such movement is relative to a miter joint plane perpendicular to the planar top side of the base. The sled comprises a first sled fence that has a planar first sled surface extending perpendicular to the top side of the base aligned at a 135° angle relative to a first side of the joint plane, with the first sled surface being resiliently compressible relative to the sled in a direction perpendicular to the first sled surface. The sled further comprises a second sled fence that has a planar second sled surface extending perpendicular to the top side of the base and aligned at a 135° angle relative to a second side of the joint plane, with the second sled surface being resiliently compressible relative to the sled in a direction perpendicular to the second sled surface.

Abstract: A headset (1. 10. 30) e.g. for use in connection with wireless communication. The housing may be constructed as two shells (2, 3) which may be opened and closed so that all mechanical parts may be concealed on the housing when the headset (1, 10, 30) is not in use. The shells (2, 3) may be interconnected by means of a hinge (7, 8) which has an axis disposed in the same plane as the surface of the shells. Alternatively, the shells may be arranged such that the axis is disposed in a perpendicular plane. The headset (1, 10, 30) has all mechanical and electrical parts are well protected when the headset is not used.

Abstract: The present invention regulates the delivery of feedstock to the fragmentation zone in a gravity-fed comminuting machine and reduces the ejection of feed materials by means of a rotating cylinder located at an offset position above the rotor. Rotationally mounted on an axis parallel to and above, but offset from, the axis of the rotor, this cylinder serves primarily as a striking surface, or anvil. The continual rotation of the anvil, in the opposite rotational direction as the rotor and with much slower rotational speed, assists in agitating the feed material, alleviating the problems of feed chute obstructions and feed aggregation. The cylinder forces the feed materials into contact with the rotor teeth through continuous rotation and provides a novel tooth design to improve efficacy and reduce wear.

Abstract: The present invention involves a projector mount and leveling system for securely connecting and aligning a working unit, such as a projector, to the ceiling of a room. The present invention has a ceiling component with upper and lower sections, the upper section of the ceiling component attaches to a mounting surface, typically the mounting surface is a ceiling, a mounting bracket connects to the lower section of the ceiling component; a plurality of offset articulated legs, each offset articulated leg having a proximal end, and a distal end with a threaded leveling barrel opening; and threaded leveling barrels, wherein the offset articulated legs connect to the mounting bracket at the proximal end, and the offset articulated legs connect at the distal ends to a projector with the threaded leveling barrels.

Abstract: A decorative light display includes a plurality of light source assemblies, each respective light source assembly of the plurality of light source assemblies having a known power requirement and at least one power supply operably coupled to each respective light source assembly of the plurality of light source assemblies for supplying power from an external power source to each respective light source assembly of the plurality of light source assemblies, the at least one power supply providing power to each respective light source assembly, which power satisfies the known power requirement thereof. A method of displaying decorative lighting is further included.
Abstract: The present invention provides a muscle training, development, stretching and warming device for sports swings. The device comprises a handle connected with an adjustable mounting device via a tensioning element of variable resistance. The tension element of a higher resistance may be substituted for a lower resistance tension element to increase the force required to swing. Further, the handle allows for adjusting the length of the resistance arm to further manipulate the force required to be provided by the user. The mounting device may be moved vertically to adjust the angle of the resistance relative to the swing plane of the user.
Abstract: A tab system for a folder (10a), and a method of making same is disclosed. The tab is enlarged to carry more information/indicia. The visual indicia space (16a), i.e. the viewable space on the front (32a, 36a) of the folder which allows viewing of the enlarged tab is achieve without violating the overall size restrictions (40a) of the file folder. Instead, the front of the folder adjacent to the tab on the back panel, is cut away (32a,34a) to expose a greater portion of the back panel (14a) and allow an increase in visual indicia space. The remaining portion of the front panel, not adjacent to the tab may also be cut away (34a) to allow other enlarged tab files, with offset tabs, (22d, 21a) to be viewable behind the present file.
Abstract: A dust collection attachment is disclosed that is adapted to be coupled to a base. A barrier coupled to the pan includes a plurality of bristles that create an opening to the pan between the base and the barrier in order to prevent debris generated by a tool from passing through the barrier, yet allowing passage of the tool through the barrier.
Abstract: A check verification system for verifying checks presented to a vendor at a vendor location, the vendor location being remotely located from a bank issuing the checks, the check verification system comprising: an input device located at the vendor location, the input device having means for collecting check information including an amount of the check and an account number; and means for communicating with the bank to verify that the account number corresponds to an account of a plurality of legitimate accounts with the bank and provide a hold upon funds in the account in the amount of the check if the account number corresponds to one of the legitimate accounts with the bank and if sufficient funds exist in the legitimate account to hold.
Abstract: Ornamental light strings are commonly made of a plurality of miniature light bulbs connected together, often in series, to make a light string. This invention is directed to optimizing the perceived brightness while reducing heat in each bulb. This is a particular problem where resistor bypass circuits are used where a bypass resistor being connected in parallel with at least one of the respective light sources, each respective light source being low wattage and being capable operating on a one hundred percent duty cycle as desired. Improvements are accomplished by changes in placement of the filament, its windings and materials.
