Patent number: 8176747Abstract: A tube picking mechanism is designed for use in an automated, ultra-low temperature (e.g., ?80° C.) storage and retrieval systems which stores biological or chemical samples. The samples are contained in storage tubes held in SBS footprint storage racks that are loaded into trays located within an ultra-low temperature freezer compartment (?80° C.). A tube picking mechanism resides in a tube picking chamber that is located adjacent the freezer compartment. The tube picking chamber is maintained at about ?20° C. when the tube picking mechanism is in operation. The tube picking mechanism includes a cache within the tube picking chamber to facilitate fast paced shuttling of the tube racks from the freezer compartment into the tube picking chamber. The shuttle has a clamping mechanism to secure a tube rack in place when a gripper head picks a tube from the rack. The system also includes a push pin that pushes on the bottom of the respective tube as it is being picked from the tube rack.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2008Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: Hamilton Storage Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Raymond T. Patent number: 8171907Abstract: A starting system for outdoor power equipment that has a controller and a start button to control the activation of an internal combustion engine. The starting system includes a controller that receives a start signal from a start button. The controller monitors for the presence of an enable device in an enable device receptacle and, upon activation of the start button and the presence of the enable device in the enable device receptacle, the controller provides electric power to the electric load of the power equipment. When the start button is depressed for longer than a minimum engagement period, the controller initiates operation of the engine. If the start button is pressed for less than the minimum engagement period, the controller activates the electric load for an auxiliary period without starting the engine. During engine operation, if the start button is depressed, the controller terminates operation of the engine.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2009Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Briggs and Stratton CorporationInventors: Robert J. Patent number: 8172810Abstract: A safety device (10) for a medical needle (11) has a sleeve (28) defining an internally tapering forward portion (30) and a needle carrier (14) located within the sleeve (28) for axial movement relative to the forward portion (30). A locking member (23) is mounted on the needle carrier (14) and has a plurality of resiliently deformable fingers (25) bearing on the internal surface of the sleeve and slidable along the tapering forward portion (30) as the carrier moves relative thereto, so as to impart a force between the carrier (14) and forward portion (30) to restore those components to their initial position. A cam arrangement (33) turns the locking member (23) following initial axial movement between the carrier (14) and forward portion (30) so that the forward ends of the fingers drop behind abutments (35) provided at the rearward end of the forward portion, upon the carrier and forward portion returning to their initial positions. This then blocks further axial movement between those components (14, 30).Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2006Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Inventor: Barry Peter Liversidge
