  • Patent number: 6554698
Abstract: A valve for a vent. The valve includes an inner leaf having a closed state which covers the vent and blocks gas flow through the vent in a first direction, and an open state which opens the vent and allows gas flow through the vent in a second direction. The valve includes an outer leaf opposing the inner leaf. A method for controlling gas flow through a vent. The method includes the steps of moving an inner leaf and an outer leaf opposing the inner leaf on the vent from a closed state which covers the vent and blocks gas flow through the vent in a first direction to an open state which opens the vent and allows gas flow through the vent in a second direction with gas flow moving in the second direction through the vent. Then there is the step of stopping the gas flow in the second direction allowing the inner leaf and the outer leaf to each move to the closed state.

  • Patent number: 6473433
Abstract: A switch of a network connected to a switch control processor. The switch includes port cards which receive packets from and send packets to the network. The switch comprises a switch control processor for providing control information. The switch includes fabrics for switching the packets. The fabrics receive control information from the switch control processor but all the fabrics only implement the control information at a same logical time when each fabric receives a control initiation signal from one of the port cards. Each respective fabric continuously operating on packets before, during and after each respective fabric receives the control initiation signal. A method for switching packets. The method includes the steps of receiving packets at a port card of a switch from a network. Then there is the step of sending fragments of each packet to fabrics of the switch.

  • Patent number: 6406846
Abstract: A method for determining whether a human patient is susceptible to hereditary pancreatitis. The method comprises the steps of obtaining nucleic acid from the human patient. Then there is the step of checking the nucleic acid for a mutation that indicates hereditary pancreatitis. A primer which reacts with a human trypsinogen gene to identify hereditary pancreatitis. A method for detecting in a human a mutation in a trypsinogen gene indicative of hereditary pancreatitis. The invention comprises the steps of obtaining a sample having DNA of the patient. Then there is the step of processing the sample so the DNA will be recognized by a desired restriction enzyme. Next there is the step of introducing the desired restriction enzyme to the DNA wherein the recognizing of the desired restriction enzyme to the DNA indicates the presence of the mutation.
