  • Patent number: 7201041
Abstract: A piezoelectric resonator is immersed in a liquid, an AC signal is applied, and a local maximum of the conductance is determined. A frequency change due to the viscosity effect is determined from two frequencies of three frequencies including a resonance frequency that is applied at that local maximum, and first and second half-value frequencies at which a half-value conductance of half that local maximum is given. The influence of the mass effect can be eliminated, so that an accurate measurement of the viscosity change is possible. Moreover, if the substance to be analyzed that is contained in the liquid adheres to a reaction film of the piezoelectric resonator, the mass of the piezoelectric resonator changes, and the second half-value frequency is measured. It is thus possible to derive only the influence of the mass effect, since the half-value frequencies are not influenced by the viscosity effect.

  • Patent number: 7202097
Abstract: There are provided a light polarizing film of a grid type, usable for light at a wavelength in a range of a visible light region to an infrared region, a method of continuously fabricating the same, and a reflective optical film using the light polarizing film. A polypropylene film is passed through rolls 12, a first constant temperature cell 13, and rolls 12? to thereby undergo uniaxial drawing by 4-fold. Thereafter, an aluminum metal is vapor-deposited to a thickness of 100 nm in a vacuum deposition cell 14 to be subsequently passed through rolls 15, a second constant temperature cell 16, and rolls 15?, undergoing uniaxial drawing by 2-fold again while partially crystallizing the polypropylene film. At this point in time, the aluminum metal undergoes substantially uniform cracking in a direction orthogonal to a drawing direction. Thereafter, heat treatment is applied to the film in a third constant temperature cell 17, and the film is subsequently taken out by take-up rolls 18.

  • Patent number: 7198827
Abstract: A nematic liquid crystal composition comprising compounds of the general formulas (I-1) to (I-5) each having naphthalene-2,6-diyl, decahydronaphthalene-2,6-diyl and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene-2,6-diyl, and a liquid display device using the same. This nematic liquid crystal composition broadens the operating temperature range of liquid crystal display characteristics due to an improvement in co-solubility and storage at low temperature, thereby making it possible to improve a reduction in driving voltage and a change in temperature and to attain comparatively fast response characteristics for a predetermined driving voltage. Accordingly, the nematic liquid crystal composition is best suited for use as TN, STN, TFT, IPS, MVA, OCB, ECB, PC, PNLC, PDLC, PSCT or the like.

Abstract: The present invention has an object of providing a method by which two kinds or more of molecules can be separated each other by using dielectrophoretic forces. The present invention comprises two methods. The first method is a method comprising forming a complex substance of a “specific molecule” containing in a sample, and a “substance capable of changing dielectrophoretic properties of the specific molecule”, which binds to the “specific molecule” contained therein, and thereby separating the complex substance and the molecules other than the specific molecule in the sample from each other. The second method is a method comprising placing a solution in which two kinds or more of molecules are dissolved under a strong electric field strength, that is, under a nonuniform electric field having an electric field strength of 500 KV/m or higher, by using dielectrophoretic forces.
