  • Patent number: 6210987
Abstract: A multilayered LED structure which has an active light-emitting layer of porous silicon carbide and a sequence of layers of porous silicon carbide underneath which serves as a quarter-wavelength multilayer mirror. The result is the electroluminescent emission of spectrally narrow visible light in the deep blue to UV range, in a highly directed pattern. The deep, intense blue luminescence is accomplished via the appropriate preparation and passivation of a single porous silicon carbide layer, followed by the deposition of a transparent, semiconducting layer, such as ITO (In2O3) or ZnO.

  • Patent number: 6212636
Abstract: A method is disclosed for establishing trusted communications with associations for communications between users on an Internet Protocol based computer network. The method entails the first user's SNIU determining the Internet Protocol (IP) address of a second user's SNIU on the computer network through the use of custom and ICMP Echo Request and Reply messages. The user's SNIUs exchange security related information needed to complete the establishment of a trusted association. The trusted association is maintained during all communications between the first user and the second user.

  • Patent number: 6200055
Abstract: A dispensing device including a pump assembly for pumping out the viscous liquid material stored in the device. The pump has a cylinder and a piston disposed within the cylinder, wherein the cylinder includes a cylinder inlet valve and the piston includes a cylinder outlet valve. Each operation of the pump assembly causes the piston to move in a first direction toward the cylinder inlet valve and in a second direction away from the cylinder inlet valve. The movement of the piston in the first direction causes the cylinder inlet valve to close and the cylinder outlet valve to open. The movement of the piston in the second direction causes the cylinder inlet valve to open and the cylinder outlet valve to close.

  • Patent number: 6194488
Abstract: A method of making polymer-coated pigment particles, involving the steps of providing a plurality of pigment particles, each of which has an outer surface coated with a layer of material that operates as a nucleus for initiating polymerization on the outer surface of each of the pigment particles. The pigment particles are mixed with a reaction mixture containing a solvent and a monomer material, wherein the layer of material coating each of the pigment particles causes the monomer material to polymerize on the outer surface of substantially each of the pigment particles to form a polymer coating thereon.

  • Patent number: 6189889
Abstract: A portable backstop device for enabling an individual to practice throwing and pitching baseballs without a catcher. The backstop device includes a front panel and a back panel which are attached to each other to form a backstop member. A portion of the back panel extends beyond a bottom edge of the front panel, so that the portion can be folded such that a bottom edge of the portion of the back panel can be detachably connected to the bottom edge of the front panel to define a pocket for collecting thrown and pitched baseballs. A rectangular shaped aperture formed in the front panel of the portable backstop member enables an individual to practice throwing balls and strikes without an umpire. Balls entering the aperture are collected in the pocket thus, saving time and energy spent in retrieving the thrown baseballs and also substantially prevents the baseballs from getting scuffed from hitting backfences and the like.
