    Abstract: A steering column lock for heavy-duty vehicle steering columns includes a one-piece substantially T-shaped member having a main stem portion and a cross bar portion. The wheels of the vehicle are turned and the stem portion is inserted through the opening in the universal joint in the steering column. The cross bar portion interferes with adjacent structure such as the steering column support. A heavy-duty padlock is inserted through an opening toward the end of the stem portion opposite the cross bar portion. A crown is provided at the top of the cross bar portion to cause further interference when trying to rotate the steering column.

    Abstract: A wind lift generator includes a housing structure formed by a pair of spaced apart plates mounted on support structure for pivotal rotation about a vertical axis at the forward end thereof for orienting into the wind, and said plates supporting a plurality of coaxially disposed sprockets arranged to support a pair of spaced apart drive chains in a quadrilateral configuration with lift foils connected and supported between the chains with the quadrilateral chain configuration supporting the chain for an initial lift mode at the forward end of the housing, followed by a direct impact mode extending from the front of the housing upward and backward to the rear of the housing and a negative lift mode extending from the top rear of the housing to the bottom with the vanes returning via a neutral mode to the front of the housing for repeating the lift cycle. A suitable electrical generator is driven from one or more shafts of the assembly driven by the drive chains.

    Abstract: A focusing system for a variable focus lens of a motion picture camera includes a pulse modulator and a microwave transmitter mounted on a camera frame for generating a high frequency pulsed signal which is transmitted to a selected target which carries a reactive signal generator that is responsive to the first signal for coding and retransmitting the coded signal back to a receiver mounted on the camera frame, and a signal processor for determining the interval of travel of the signal and translating the interval into a distance-analog signal that is transmitted to a focusing motor for driving the focusing mechanism of the lens for focusing the lens at the distance determined by the signal. One alternate embodiment includes multiple reactive signal generators having distinctive signal responsive controls and portable remote transmitters for selectively switching to the selected ones of said reactive generators.

    Abstract: A plastic substrate is injection molded to provide a pattern of channels in at least one of its sides to define a predetermined set of conductive paths. Both the surfaces of the channels and the non-channel surfaces therebetween are metalling through one or more steps of flame spraying, a combination of electroless plating and electroplating, gas plating or vacuum deposition. In one form of the invention the metallization over the non-channel surfaces is removed by abrading. In another form of the invention the initial metallization over the non-channel surfaces is coated with a resist prior to the deposition of another metal layer. The metal covering the channels is subsequently removed by stripping the resist and etching away the initial metallization.

    Abstract: A ball clutch mechanism for restraining a pin from longitudinal movement, including an anvil, a radially symmetrical cup, a spring and two two-ball sets of uniformly dimensioned balls. The anvil has an axial bore for axially receiving the pin. The cup has a confining end, a tapered interior wall and a predominantly open end covering the anvil and axially aligned with the anvil for axially receiving a pin that is axially received by the bore of the anvil. The anvil is longitudinally movable along its bore axis with respect to the cup. The spring forces the anvil toward the confining end of the cup. The first set of balls engages the anvil and is forced by the anvil toward the confining end of the cup by the spring. The second set of balls is in the extreme confining end of the cup for clutching the pin.

    Abstract: The decal of the present invention is a combination of a multi-color offset printed design on an extremely thin, flexible, extensible film of water resistant material covering a water soluble slip layer carried by porous decal paper and a uniform deposit of pressure sensitive adhesive covering the design and adapted to hold the design against skin and protect it from disruption during application to a skin surface. The process of the invention enables rapid manufacture of the novel multi-color decal by offset lithograph printing of a multi-color design through the combination of the steps of forming an extremely thin, water resistant film on a water soluble slip layer carried by decal paper, offset printing the design on that film and thereafter depositing on the printed design a pressure sensitive adhesive in a liquid vehicle which is a non-solvent for the film.

    Abstract: An expanding mandrel chuck for internally gripping a tubular core. The chuck has a cylindrical sleeve which can be slid over the shaft of a web handling apparatus, core cutter, or other apparatus. A plurality of hexagonal shaped cams surround the intermediate portion of the sleeve. The flat surfaces of these cams are aligned. A plurality of circumferentially spaced, generally pie-shaped jaw segments are freely positioned in overlying relationship with respect to the cams. Each segment has a flat inner surface overlying a corresponding set of faces of the cams. Guide pins extend from opposing end surfaces of each segment and slide within radial slots in disks mounted on the sleeve on opposite sides of the segments. Spring rings are mounted in grooves between the cams and yielding urge the jaw segments radially outwardly. Relative rotation between the cams and the segments causes the cams to push the segments radially outwardly into positive gripping relationship with the inner wall of a surrounding core.
