  • Patent number: 4070074
Abstract: A cabinet in which the closure or door thereof is rendered less vulnerable to unauthorized tampering which seeks to bypass the lock thereof as a result of the door being latched behind an edge of the cabinet front opening. Thus, opening of the door contemplates a compound movement, i.e. an initial unlatching sliding movement, and then the usual pivotal traverse from its closed into its open position. As a significant improvement, the construction of the within cabinet effectively masks the presence of the structural features which contribute to the door compound movement, whereas this is not the case with prior art cabinet doors and, as a result, such omission in an obvious way, detracts from the effectiveness of the security intended to be gained by the compound door movement.

  • Patent number: 4067073
Abstract: An assemblable and disassemblable, convertible sofa characterized by the concealment and, therefore, the visual absence of fasteners after the sofa has been assembled. Where two parts are to be joined, a metallic insert having internal and external threads is inserted into one of the parts to be joined. A screw passes through the other part to be joined and matingly engages the internal threads of the insert. In the assembled condition of the sofa, the arm rests are secured to a base frame by means of fasteners that extend in an outward direction from an internal portion of the base assembly of the sofa. The back wall of the sofa is similarly assembled. A sliding board is mounted on the top wall of the base assembly and is movable between the opened and closed positions of the sofa.

  • Patent number: 4065841
Abstract: An improved dampening roller produced by grinding a thermoplastic cylinder under conditions causing strands of the thermoplastic material to be abraded away from the surface and redeposited onto the still soft surface of the thermoplastic cylinder and to bond thereto. The particles are deposited at an angle, producing channels which permit edge removal of excess dampening solution, preventing liquid buildup at the center of the roller.

  • Patent number: 4065057
Abstract: In apparatus for spraying heat responsive materials, a serpentine path is provided so that a flow of compressed air or an inert gas first traverses the inside surface of the housing in order to maintain the outside surface of the apparatus in a relatively cool condition. The compressed air or inert gas continues to flow along its serpentine path, being gradually heated, and then is centrally discharged together with the material to be sprayed which may, for example, be a powder in the form of a pure resin or a mixture. In order to prevent "powder balling" or "spitting" of the resin as it is discharged, baffle means are provided surrounding the nozzle so that the heated compressed air or inert gas does not come into contact with the resin until it is in a mixing chamber that is downstream of and away from the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4062748
Abstract: Apparatus for producing ozone, wherein air or oxygen is passed through two high voltage electrodes mounted opposite each other in a housing and is converted into ozone by electrical discharge. The housing is constructed as a slender tube open at both ends and made from an electrically non-conductive material, while between the two electrodes, extending more or less over the entire inner length of the tube is mounted at least one bipolar electrode without an electrical input or output, which divides the inside of the tube into discharge channels. The bipolar electrode is formed by a surface, on which discharge points are mounted and directed at the earthed electrode. The discharge electrode, directed at the surface of the bipolar electrode, is similarly provided with a plurality of discharge points.

  • Patent number: 4057898
Abstract: As a means for effectively dealing with a carpet damage, such as a cigarette burn, a cutting template is provided which produces standardized sized cut-outs. Thus, use of the within template contemplates removing the cigarette burn within a removal cut-out and, in an out-of-the-way area, such as under a furniture piece, obtaining a replacement cut-out which, being of the exact same size and shape is readily inserted in place within the carpet opening previously occupied by the removal cut-out.

  • Patent number: 4057773
Abstract: A switch which can be activated by a magnetic force and which includes a housing having at least two spaced apart electrical terminals thereon. Internal of the housing is contained a coil spring supported at one end thereof, and axially holding an elongated, magnetically responsive, conductive member in cantilevered fashion within the housing. The elongated member and spring can move from an aligned position to a deflected position responsive to the magnetic force. A first contact interconnects one of the electrical terminals with the supported end of the elongated member, by means of the coil spring. A second contact is interconnected to the other of the electrical terminals and contacts the cantilevered end of the elongated member in one of its two positions.

  • Patent number: 4054496
Abstract: A process for the electrolysis of heavy water which results in the production of high purity deuterium without periodic replenishment of the electrolyte with additional deuterated compounds is defined. Electrolysis is effected through the use of an inexpensive cation-action permselective membrane which is essentially a solid polymer electrolyte and which is capable of automatically separating the evolved deuterium and oxygen gas. This cation-active permselective membrane does not introduce any intrinsic impurities or tritium contamination in the generated deuterium gas, does not require periodic revitalization with deuterated compounds or other chemical compounds, and is characterized by an unusually high electrical efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4054877
Abstract: An omnidirectional broad band antenna employs a slot and a pair of radiating arms excited by the slot. In one embodiment slots are formed in a coaxial transmission line and covered by a resin bonded glass fiber layer which serves as an integral radome and permits pressurization. The arms are of substantial girth and one arcs upwardly and circularly and the other arcs downwardly and circularly thus providing a large spacing between arms. The antenna is characterized by a broad bandwidth and low VSWR.

  • Patent number: 4046130
Abstract: An attachment is provided for a firearm, such as a handgun, with the attachment being adapted for use during target practice. The attachment includes a cylinder which is releasably secured to the barrel of the firearm. A needle-like rod is contained within the cylinder and is ejected therefrom after the trigger is pulled. A pair of arms extend outwardly from the cylinder proximate the rearward end thereof with the inner end of the arms being coupled to the rod and with the outer end of the arms being adapted to be struck by a portion of the hammer of the firearm. The target is reduced in scale and is placed only several inches away from the muzzle of the firearm. In one embodiment of the invention, a spring is utilized for returning the rod to its initial, retracted position after each firing. In another embodiment of the invention an external spring clip or latch extends into the cylinder and is adapted to releasably retain the rod prior to the firing thereof.

  • Patent number: 4046013
Abstract: For extracting a test sample of fluid from a cable or the like, the present invention provides a combination drill and plug that has cutting means at one end thereof and tapered thread forming or cutting means proximate the other end thereof. When the combination drill and plug is driven forwardly by the apparatus and utilizing the method comprising the present invention, the cutting means thereof removes a mass of material in the form of chips and/or a disk and retains the mass of material so that it does not contaminate the fluid in the cable. After a suitable quantity of fluid is removed from the cable, the combination drill and plug is further advanced so that the thread forming or cutting portion thereof engages the hole formed by the drill portion and forms or cuts threads therein so as to seal the cable and permit its further usage without additional leakage of fluid.
