  • Patent number: 5586996
Abstract: In a device for separating oil from the blow-by exhaust vapors of a combustion engine, a filter stack is mounted in a canister having an inlet port for the intake of vapors from the engine, a gas outlet port for connection to a source of suction for causing the vapors to flow through the canister, and a discharge port communicating with a flow passage for removal of condensed oil. The filter stack is operatively arranged so that the vapors pass in contact with and through the filter stack. A plate partially surrounds the filter so that the oil in the vapors condense, and flow outwardly through the passage between the plate and the interior wall surface of the canister.

  • Patent number: 5584210
Abstract: A housing comprising a unitary block is bifurcated to form a pair of arms between which a crank lever is pivotally mounted. A circular clamp is simultaneously formed at the end of the arms to bridge the arms. The arms are adjustably drawn together to close the clamp. The crank lever is an L-shaped bell crank in which the pivot point and handle, when extended, intersect perpendicularly at a corner, forming the elbow about which the cable is pulled.

  • Patent number: 5570652
Abstract: A pest guard comprises a flat disk mounted on a cylindrical sleeve which is fixed against linear movement on a support member by a pair of clamps. The sleeve is provided with a longitudinal slot permitting it to be placed over the support member. The clamps are each formed by two halves and adapted to be fitted over a respective ends of the sleeve so that the clamps permit rotational movement of the sleeve but inhibit longitudinal movement of the sleeve about the cable. The disk is provided with a central opening such that it is permitted to rotate about the sleeve. The disk is also provided with a radial, curved slit which resists opening and which maintains the disk flat through extended use.

  • Patent number: 5570265
Abstract: An elongate member is coupled by a socket at one end to the aircraft surface, whilst a tip forms its other end. The electrical resistivity of the elongate member, tip and coupling is equal to or greater than 10.sup.2 ohmmeter; and are preferably molded from a high temperature thermoplastics material having an electrical resistivity equal to or greater than 10.sup.16 ohmmeter. The plastics material is selected from the group comprising polyetherimide, polyethersulphone and polyetheretherketone. The material of the tip is provided with an embedded aligned array of carbon or silicone carbide fibers while the other parts of the discharger are loaded with carbon black or coated with the same thermoplastics material loaded with 4% by weight carbon black. The adhesive used to mount the socket has an electrical resistance between 5 to 10K ohms, while that of the socket is between 5 to 10M ohms, that of the elongate member between 20 to 100M ohms, and that of the tip is between 2 to 5 ohms.

  • Patent number: 5562791
Abstract: A method of producing a sandwich plate that consists of a foamed core layer and two fiber-reinforced cover layers, comprising the steps ofproviding a sheet of a thermoplastic plastics material, such as polyetherimide, containing an amount of a suitable solvent or blowing agent;placing said sheet between two fiber-reinforced layers of a similar thermoplastic material, such as polyetherimide; placing the core web and cover layer assembly between two pressure plates;supplying heat and pressure to the pressure plates to cause foaming of the core web andcooling the pressure plates when a predetermined foam layer thickness is obtained.According to one aspect of the invention one of the cover layers has a remaining percentage of solvent that does not exceed 0.1% of weight.According to a second aspect of the invention the thermoplastic material in at least one of the cover layers is a modification having a higher chemical resistance than the thermoplastic material of the core layer.

  • Patent number: 5555804
Abstract: A perfecting sheet rotary offfset press has a top surface printing unit and a back surface printing unit each formed of an impression cylinder, and a blanket cylinder, a plate cylinder, and an inking mechanism which are disposed above or below the impression cylinder, respectively. The top and back surface printing units are connected through the impression cylinders constituting the respective printing units. A sheet is sequentially transferred by the respective impression cylinders of the top and back surface printing units, and printing is performed on the top and back surfaces of the sheet as it passes through the printing units. Thus, this perfecting sheet rotary offset press can print at high speeds and presents few printing faults, and its dimension can be made smaller.

  • Patent number: 5556096
Abstract: Dice are disclosed which are generally spherical and which have a multiplicity of flat faces bearing indicia--symbols, letters, numerals or the like formed thereon by cutting, etching or engraving. The faces are arranged in opposed identical pairs with their centers lying on axes passing through the center of the die. In passing through the center of the die the axes may be symmetrically spaced one from the other or be arranged such that their angular spacing in both bearing and elevation is maximized.

  • Patent number: 5553330
Abstract: A helmet that prevents catastrophic neck injuries; in the preferred embodiment, for hockey, a high-impact plastic casing is snugged on top of the player's head by cantilever supports from the inside sides of the casing; a flange at the bottom of the casing is formed so that a collision such as a head-on collision on top of the head will drive the helmet into contact with the torso, thus transmitting all collision force to the torso. The top of the helmet is high enough that the top of the head does not contact the underside of the top of the helmet under the peak collision force. Further, in the most dangerous high-incident-angle collisions, a tip projecting rearwards from the top of the helmet, in conjunction with rollers on the top surface, act to position the helmet for symmetrical transmission of force axially.

  • Patent number: 5542624
Abstract: Lightning strike protection for an aircraft or part of an aircraft is provided by mounting metal (aluminium) rods adjacent but spaced from the inner surface of the aircraft wall. The rods are provided with ball joints from which extensions through the wall stand proud of the aircraft outer surface and within the material of static dischargers. The rods are coupled to bus bar which run the length of the aircraft in turn are coupled to lightning strike dischargers (again in the form of metal rods carried on but spaced from the wall of an aircraft and having extensions which pass through the aircraft wall). The application of the lightning strike protection system to radomes, antennas, pitot tubes carbon fiber reinforced plastics structures is discussed, in the former two cases metal rods being provided to extend in the null field of a device within the radome or the antenna.
