Abstract: A drill to cut hardly machinable materials has major flanks extending in a backward direction of rotation from major cutting edges with an ascending slope and ultra-hard cutting grains adhered to said major flanks, at least. When the rotating drill contacts the work-piece, the ultra-hard cutting grains adhered to the most backward part of the major flanks to the direction of rotation cut the work-piece at first. As the ultra-hard cutting grains of the major flanks drop off by the cutting, actual cutting parts move to adjacent part forward of the rotation of the major flanks. Finally, major cutting edges take over the cutting of the work-piece.
Abstract: A fluid actuated engine valve assembly comprising a fluid actuator (10) including a chamber (14) in which a piston assembly (17) reciprocates. The piston assembly (17) includes a pair of spaced pistons (18,19) which divide the chamber (12) into three sections (20 21,22) and a passageway (29) which supports a slide valve member (30). Movement of the slide valve member (30) in one direction causes fluid to be directed to the chamber section (20) to cause movement of the piston assembly (14) in one direction. Movement of the valve member (30) in the opposite direction vents the chamber (20) and permits spring (34) and/or spring (42) to move the piston assembly 17 in the opposite direction.
Abstract: An air path is provided in the main body of a chain saw so as to connect an air inlet port provided on the main body and a carburetor chamber of the internal combustion engine and also connected to a cooling fan chamber. For use under normal conditions, combustion air is taken from the air inlet port into the carburetor chamber. In case of a rainy or snowy day, the air inlet port is closed and combustion air is taken from the cooling chamber into the carburetor chamber, air control means is provided between the air path and the cooling fan chamber. This air control means generates stagnation of air flow in the cooling chamber in order to supply air into the carburetor chamber and prevent dust and the like from being taken into the air path.
Abstract: The degree to which a large container such as a silo is full or empty is determined by expelling a quantity of air under pressure into the top of the silo. The pressure of the air within the silo is then measured and the rate of decay of said pressure from its maximum to atmosphere is determined.
Abstract: A series of sensors are placed transversely to the line of movement of the bill so that the leading edge passes over the sensors substantially simultaneously. If the bill is misaligned and the sensors are blocked within a predetermined period, the bill will be rejected.
Abstract: The invention is a tremolo device for adjusting the string tension in a stringed musical instrument including a body having an upper surface, a neck portion, a tuning head having a series of tuning devices, a multiplicity of strings each anchored at a first end to a respective one of the tuning devices and extending over at least a portion of the neck portion and the body. The tremolo device includes a base plate attached to the body of the instrument and a movable plate having first and second edges extending in a direction perpendicular to the strings. The movable plate is mounted to the base plate along the second edge of the movable plate about a pivot axis and in a horizontal position with its longitudinal axis perpendicular to the strings. The first edge of the movable plate is adapted to securely anchor the second end of each of the strings.
Abstract: The pair of card members bearing visual indicia on each side are laminated with a plastic film interposed therebetween so that each of the card members is removably adhered to the film to create a cohesive single card assembly.
Abstract: An antenna having a central axis is supported on a supporting member which in turn is supported on an azimuth gimbal. The antenna and the supporting member are rotatable around an elevation axis perpendicular to the central axis gimbal is supported on a base and is rotatable around an azimuth axis perpendicular to the elevation axis. A first gyro having an input axis parallel to the elevation axis is secured to the supporting member, and a second gyro having an input axis perpendicular to both the central axis and the elevation angle axis is secured to the supporting member. An accelerometer is provided for outputting a signal representative of an inclination angle of the central axis relative to a horizontal plane. An azimuth transmitter is provided for outputting a signal representative of a rotation angle of the azimuth gimbal around the azimuth axis.
Abstract: A chesthead having a pair of acoustic chambers, each of which is provided with a diametrically arranged wall separating the acoustic chamber into two portions. The two portions in each chamber are connected selectively to a pair of sound tubes so that dual sounds from each chamber are fed to the user simultaneously.
Abstract: An adaptor for eavestrough downspouts has two portions of different cross sections. The first section fits outside the downspout and the other fits inside the drainage extensions. The two portions are hinged together. The adaptor is formed with step-down sized cross sections and a removable panel to allow more sizes of downspouts and extensions to be connected.
Abstract: A caliper type brake assembly for a bicycle is formed of a pair of arms each having an elongated slot at an intermediate portion and adapted to be mounted pivotally on the front fork of a bicycle frame. A ball clamp is mounted in a socket mounted on the arm and has a hole extending through the center thereof into which is slidably received a rod. A brake shoe having a front face provided with a brake pad is in turn mounted at its rear face at the end of the rod. The brake shoe is universally adjustable by sliding the rod within the ball and by moving the ball within its socket.
Abstract: In the process of bisphenol-A systhesis a method for controlling the water content of the resultant cation-exchanger bed wherein an acid ion-exchanger resin in the form of a sulphonated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer is washed with phenol and the resulted washing is contacted with a basic ion-exchanger resin. Water is removed from the washing by distillation, and the dewatered phenol is recycled to wash the cation-exchanger bed. The catalyst bed is then washed with a mixture of phenol acetone and water, and this washing is contacted with the basic ion-exchange resin and recycled to wash the cation exchanger bed so as to obtain the desired moisture content.

Abstract: A blade cover for a rotary blade weed or grass cutter is formed with a body adjustably fixed to a bracket provided on the operating shaft. Either the bracket or the attachment part is provided with long holes extending slantingly downwards to the main body and bolts are inserted into these long holes and fastened so that the position of the attachment part on the bracket is changeable.
Abstract: A temporary scaffold comprising a platform section and an auxiliary section, each comprising a E-shaped frame formed of an arrangement of pipes. The pipes are telescopically connected in end-to-end relationship. As a result, the platform and auxiliary sections are interconnected so that their connected length is adjustable.
Abstract: A water purifying and heating apparatus having a pump supplying water to a purifying filter connected by conduit to a boiler and capable of being used with domestic electric power supply. The load current required for start-up of the pump is reduced, and the automatic flushing effect of the hollow fiber membrane filters is obtained as is hot water as needed, without reducing the treatment efficiency of the purifying filter even though the temperature of water being treated is low.
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for converting vaporizers such as the Drager.TM. model 19 from pour-fill to safer indexed key-fill, and for providing overfill protection. A hollow screw is screwed up into an existing screw hole underneath the vaporizer that opens into the fluid storage compartment. A banjo encircling the screw provides two channels, one to dispense filling fluid up around the screw and into the vaporizer, and one to carry decompressing air back from the hollow through the screw. Each channel is connected to a separate pipe that communicates with a channel in an adaptor base screwed onto the vaporizer, and thereby to an indexed ISO key block connected to the fill bottle. Fluid thus flows from the bottle to the vaporizer and decompressing air flows back. For overfill protection, a special plug is fashioned to screw up into the existing sight glass access hole, and overfilling fluid flows from the vaporizer to the sight glass and then through the plug into the base where it exhausts.
