  • Patent number: 4075614
Abstract: A fire detector and alarm is provided with means to mount it on a Christmas tree so as to be activated by the rapid buildup and intense heat of a Christmas tree fire. The power may be derived from a battery or the standard socket of a string of Christmas tree lights or from the electrical circuit with any Christmas tree decoration. The decorative shape of the alarm housing has a plurality of openings consistent with such decorative shape for passing the sound therethrough, and further is provided with a resonance chamber. With closure of a bimetallic switch, the heat of the fire will melt the solder of the switch contacts so that with subsequent cooling, the solder will harden prior to opening of the bimetallic contacts, so that they will remain closed even after cooling.

  • Patent number: 4068432
Abstract: A demountable partition wall is of studless construction and comprises ceiling and floor runners adapted to receive a pair of wall panels in spaced relation. The ceiling and floor runners include leg portions which frictionally receive the wall panels to provide a stable and sound deadening construction at the mounting ends of the panels. A stabilizing and sound dampening pad assembly is preferably located in the vertically intermediate regions of the wall. Doors and window units can be located as desired along the partition wall, with the window and door frames being adaptable to the ceiling and floor runners. The floor runner can be spaced above the floor or supporting surface by nails or the like thereby permitting the wall to be installed over carpeting without damaging the same.

  • Patent number: 4064289
Abstract: Method of making a semiconductor device which includes applying a solution of a heterocyclic ring-containing polymer in an organic solvent to a desired surface of a semiconductor body and removing the organic solvent from the solution by heat thereby to form a coating of a polymer on the surface, wherein the polymer is a reaction product of a diamine represented by the formula: ##STR1## with a tetracarboxylic acid or anhydride of it. Since the coating exhibits good thermal stability and good electrical properties when applied to the surface of the semiconductor, it is useful as a passivating film.

  • Patent number: 4055395
Abstract: In a biochemical analysis apparatus, two kind of cuvettes are used, one having a single chamber and the other having three chambers joined. These cuvettes are incubated at a predetermined temperature in incubator chambers of the analysis apparatus one after another, and the period of the incubation is determined depending on the above kind of the cuvettes. After the completion of incubation the cuvette is set in a measuring chamber of a photometry section of the analysis apparatus. In the photometry section, two paris of photosensors are provided for detecting the light of various wave length which passes through the measuring chamber, and either one of the two pairs of photosensors is automatically selected according to the kind of the cuvette set in the measuring chamber. Ouput signals from a pair of the photosensors are calculated automatically and the result of the calculation is indicated on an indicator of this apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4054768
Abstract: Visibility to the interior of a microwave oven is improved through a microwave shield that can be driven with periodic motion to increase the visibility through the shield, with such driving being accomplished by an electromechanical vibrator, a manual impulse given to the shield that is spring mounted, a power take-off from a conventional motor driven microwaver mixer, a separately motor driven cam, or the like. Such periodic motion may be oscillation such as reciprocation, or rotary with constant, decreasing or increasing amplitude, which amplitude may be the distance between adjacent apertures in the shield. Such periodic movement of the shield will scatter the microwave energy striking it and improve the distribution of microwave energy within the oven, which scattering may be enhanced by a three-dimensional mechanical texture given to the interior face of the shield, a coating with crystalline or metallic particles, or the like that will randomly scatter microwave energy striking it.

  • Patent number: 4051209
Abstract: Composite panelling of upper and lower metal skins with side configurations for interlocking and a rigid foam core are continuously made by feeding separate upper and lower skin panels secured together by preassembled rigid foam end dams continuously past a foam station having a small height mixing head mounted on cross slides to lay down a zigzag pattern of foam between the skins, with the first and last transverse run of foam being parallel to the ends of the skins. A mixing head is such that valves are located within the head so that the two foamable chemicals do not contact each other until they are fed into the mixing chamber wherein a mechanical mixer mixes them immediately prior to being deposited, which mechanical mixer and valves are of minimum height and fully insertable within the molding space between the skins. A drive motor for the mixer is located in the main body supporting the mixing head, which main body does not enter into the mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 4045669
Abstract: A condenses lens system condenses an elctron beam onto a specimen. The electron beam thus transmitted through the specimen is magnified by a magnifying lens system. The magnified electron beam is projected onto a fluorescent screen, and the image of the specimen is visually observed. The quantity of electrons per unit area in the magnified electron beam is detected by an electron beam detector. In response to the detected signal, the condenser lens system is controlled so as to make constant the quantity of electrons per unit area in the magnified electron beam.

  • Patent number: 4040766
Abstract: In a wicket gate protecting device for hydraulic machines, a pair of link plates transmitting a force between a gate control ring and a gate lever, is connected to the gate lever through a shear pin. The gate lever disposed between the link plates, and rotatably supported about the shear pin. When the movement of the wicket gate is restricted by obstacles entered between adjacent gate vanes, the shear pin is cut and a part of the shear pin supporting the gate lever moves along between the link plates for a distance and is stopped by friction between the link plates and the shear pin, thereby preventing damage to the neighboring gate vanes.

  • Patent number: 4032453
Abstract: The water and oil that is normally collected in the bilge of small boats is pumped overboard by a bilge pump with the oil being removed from the bilge water by a filter having layers of different size expanded resin particles that are hydrophobic and oleophilic. When operation of the bilge pump ceases, a valve will release the back pressure that would otherwise be caused by the filter, to facilitate start-up of the pump. At the discharge and visible on the exterior of the boat, there is an indicator that will change color when it is in contact with oil, to provide a visual indication when the filter needs changing.

  • Patent number: 4025860
Abstract: An electric auto power supply has an energy battery which is capable of discharging a current for a comparatively long period of time and high in energy density, and a power battery which is capable of discharging a current of a comparatively high amperage and high in power density. The energy battery and the power battery are connected respectively by way of switching means in parallel relation to each other, so as to be used as a power source of an electromobile. The current discharged from these batteries is controlled, such that a current required for the travelling of the electromobile, which is dependent upon the travelling conditions thereof, is supplied simultaneously from both batteries, or separately from individual batteries, or otherwise only from one battery, while a current is being charged to the other battery, thus extending the possible mileage range of the electromobile.
