  • Patent number: 4716974
Abstract: Jamming caused by absorbent members in sponge core barrels or loss of coring information caused by oil wipes in oil field boreholes in which sponge core coring tools are disposed can be avoided by employing a method and tool wherein the absorbent member is formed in placed in contact about the core after the has been cut and disposed within the inner tube. In the illustrated embodiment, a liquid foam is catalytically formed from two constituent parts. The constituent parts are hydraulically forced from longitudinal chambers defined within the inner tube walls into an area in the throat of the bit where the parts meet and exothermically generate a liquid foam. The liquid foam rises into a plurality of longitudinal open chambers defined within the inner tube. Each of the open chambers has a longitudinal slot defined therethrough which communicates the chamber with the axial bore in which the core is disposed.

  • Patent number: 4715263
Abstract: A retractable gun for mounting within the fuselage of an aircraft, typically a helicopter, is disposed in a firing position and aimed by rotation of a turret which is coupled to and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. The gun is aimed by simultaneous and independent rotation of the gun about an elevation pivot axis through which the gun is coupled to the turret. The turret axis and turret is disposed within an enclosure or within the fuselage of the airplane to allow withdrawal of the gun and turret from their exposed position. However, even in the enclosed position the gun can be fired. The elevation pivot axis is approximately perpendicular to the turret axis and permits two independent degrees of rotational freedom with which the gun may be aimed. Thus, the gun may be aimed at any point within at least a hemispherical range beneath the fuselage of an aircraft.

  • Patent number: 4708540
Abstract: A two-part drill bushing assembly makes use of a sleeve, identified in the trade as a lock liner bushing which is embedded in a jig plate for reception of a separate slip renewable bushing element. Extending through the renewable bushing element is an axial bore within which a drill bit rotates during operation on a workpiece. On the exterior of the renewable bushing element is a helical shoulder which, when rotated, interlocks with a locking shoulder of the liner bushing. The invention involves a stiff wire rod, a mid-portion of which is bent to form the locking shoulder and from which legs extend to positions of snapped-on attachment to the liner bushing.

  • Patent number: 4705422
Abstract: For lifting loads there is provided an eyebolt with an annular ring swivelly mounted on a stud so as to freely rotate in a horizontal plane through a full 360.degree.. A lifting loop has oppositely disposed pivot pins in swivel engagement with the annular ring to allow the loop to pivot in a vertical arc as well as to rotate about the stud. The stud in turn is adapted to be anchored in fixed position to the load, whatever the load may be. Snap rings at free ends of the pivot pins serve to resist pulling the pins free of the annular ring when a heavy lifting force is applied to the lifting loop.

  • Patent number: 4703589
Abstract: A reciprocating sander particularly adapted for sanding remote surfaces such as ceilings and walls is provided by concentrating a substantial part of the weight of the sander in a motor assembly. A lightweight extension tube extends from the motor assembly to a universal joint which in turn is coupled to a sanding attachment. The sanding attachment includes clips which secures a piece of sandpaper in a mechanism for converting angular rotation of the universal joint into relative reciprocating motion of a sanding plate and sandpaper with respect to the sanding attachment. By bringing relative force between the sanding attachment and the motor assembly, a resiliently retained driving rod within the extension tube, which is coupled to the universal joint and sanding attachment, is forced downwardly in the extension tube toward the motor assembly. This ultimately causes two clutch parts to engage thereby permitting the transmission of the motive force to the sanding attachment.

  • Patent number: 4703461
Abstract: Multistate mud pulsing is achieved by generating both positive and negative pulses within a drill string by means of a plurality of selectively operable bypass passages around a restriction to primary mud flow within a drill string or by venting to outside of the drill string. A fraction of the hydraulic mud is drawn from a location upstream from the restriction into a valve manifold. The removed fraction of hydraulic mud is selectively communicated from the valve manifold either to a point inside a drill string downstream from the restriction or to a point exterior to the drill string in annulus between the outside of the drill string in the borehole. Mud reinjected downstream from the restriction creates a positive pressure pulse within the drill string. Mud which is diverted to the annulus outside of the drill string creates a negative mud pulse within the drill string.
