Abstract: A fluid mixing device includes a housing having two inlets for two fluids to be mixed, a common outlet, and a cylindrical chamber connecting the inlets to the outlet. A valve member is disposed within the cylindrical chamber and includes a cylindrical wall formed with a slot extending for a part of the wall circumference. The housing inlets include slots extending transversely of the cylindrical chamber. The valve member is displaceable axially for moving its slot into or out of alignment with the inlet slots. It is also presettable angularly to permit presetting the proportion the valve member slot is coextensive with the inlet slots, and thereby the proportions of the inletted fluids to be included in the outlet mixture. Also described is a demand valve optionally usable with the fluid mixing device.
Abstract: A vacuum holder for holding articles by suction includes a vacuum chamber divided into a plurality of interconnected sub-chambers each communicating via a control a passageway with a plurality of suction openings extending through an outer holding surface, and a valve member for each control passageway integrally formed with a mounting section mounted to the housing, and an elastic juncture section normally biassing the valve member to open its respective control passageway to permit the application of suction to its plurality of suction openings. Each valve member is displaceable by the suction force applied from its respective vacuum sub-chamber, when its plurality of suction openings are not covered by the article to be held by the holder, to thereby close the control passageway to its respective suction openings.
Abstract: A laser beam delivery system includes a fiber cord assembly connectable to a laser beam source; a probe connector assembly connectable at one end to the fiber cord assembly and having a socket at its opposite end for receiving, in a quickly attachable/detachable manner, a fiber probe to deliver the laser beam to a working site; and a fiber probe for insertion into the socket.
Abstract: An accessory for use with an eye examination apparatus including an eyepiece, a control lever for controlling the position of the eyepiece, and a tonometer unit located rearwardly of the eyepiece and including a contact element which is adjustable for varying the pressure applied by the contact element against the subject's eye. The accessory includes a remote control unit attachable to the apparatus such that a control member in the remote control unit is in the vicinity of the control lever of the apparatus for controlling the position of its eyepiece, and a coupling between the control member and the tonometer unit such as to permit the operation of the control lever and the control member by one hand of the examiner while the examiner views the subject's eye via the eyepiece.

Abstract: A printed circuit board includes electrical circuit components electrically connected to a plurality of male connectors mounted on the board and extending outwardly of one edge for connecting the board into an electrical system. The printed circuit board is formed with a cutout adjacent a second edge to define a first board section bordering one side of the cutout and including the first edge mounting the male electrical connectors outwardly thereof, and a second board section bordering another side of the cutout and including the second edge facing outwardly of the board and another edge facing inwardly of the board. The inwardly-facing edge of the second board section includes a plurality of female connectors connected to the circuit components to permit mounting an electrical device to extend inwardly of the second board section into the cutout.
Abstract: A transdermal drug delivery device includes anode and cathode electrodes supported on a base member in spaced relation to each other to define a gap therebetween, a gel containing a liquid drug to be delivered covering the gap and in contact with both of the electrodes, and a liquid permeable sheet covering the gel containing the liquid to be delivered.
Abstract: An anti-collision system for vehicles includes a speed sensor for sensing the speed of the vehicle, a space sensor for measuring the distance of the vehicle from an object, a computer for computing a danger-of-collision distance to the object, an alarm actuated by the computer when the sensed distance of the object is equal to or less than the danger-of-collision distance compared by the computer, and a brake light actuated upon the actuation of said alarm. The system also includes a control panel having parameter presetting means for presetting preselected parameters concerning the vehicle, the vehicle driver, and the environment, which are utilized by the computer for computing the danger-of-collision distance to the object.
Abstract: An air cooling device includes a headwear to be worn on a user's head, a nozzle carried by the headwear such as to be located in the user's mouth-nose region when the headwear is worn, and air tubing connected at one end to the nozzle and connectible at the opposite end to a source of cooled air for directing a stream of the cooled air via the nozzle to the user's mouth-nose region to cool the air inhaled by the user.

Abstract: An irrigation system includes an irrigation line having a plurality of irrigation devices connected along its length, a water supply line extending parallel to the irrigation line, and a plurality of pulsator devices extending in parallel to each other from the water supply line to the irrigation line for feeding water into the irrigation line via a plurality of feeding points each spaced from the next by a plurality of irrigation devices. Also described are a novel drip irrigation line and a novel saddle clamp construction for use in such irrigation system.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring an optical property of an optical device, such as a convex or concave reflector surface, by locating a main converging lens having a focal length f.sub.1 in front of an optical measuring system capable of measuring collimation, and providing a carrier including an auxiliary converging lens for receiving a beam from the optical measuring system, and the optical device to be tested for reflecting back, via the auxiliary converging lens to the optical measuring system, the beam passed through the auxiliary converging lens from the optical measuring system. The carrier is located at a first position wherein the back focal plane of the auxiliary converging lens coincides with the front focal plane of the main converging lens, and the optical device to be tested is located on the carrier in the front focal plane of the auxiliary converging lens.

Abstract: A tablet dispenser includes a housing of rectangular configuration about the size of a credit card and formed with a compartment for holding a plurality of tablets, e.g., artificial sweetener tablets. The compartment is of a thickness only slightly greater than the thickness of the tablets to be dispensed such as to accommodate a single layer of tablets within the compartment. The housing is formed with an opening at one of the corners of the rectangle for dispensing tablets from the compartment, and a pivotal dispensing member is provided to dispense a single tablet from the compartment through the opening.
Abstract: A candle, comprising: a container closed at its bottom and open at its top; a first combustible material within the container, which material is liquid at room temperature; a second combustible material, which is solid at room temperature, overlying the first combustible material and closing the open top of the container; and a wick immersed in the first combustible material and projecting outwardly through the second combustible material. The second combustible material is liquified by heat at the time of its application and is of a density lower than that of the first combustible material so as to float thereover as it solidifies.

Abstract: An inspection system for providing high contrast images of two materials of an article to be inspected is disclosed. Light with variable spectral range and large angular coverage is passed from the source through a polarizer, reflects from or is transmitted through the article to be inspected, passes through an analyzer and is detected by a sensor. A phase compensator is disposed either between the polarizer and the sample or the sample and the analyzer. Two of the three polarization optical components, that is, the polarizer, the compensator and the analyzer, are separately adjusted until the maximum contrast is found in the image. This enables high contrast imaging of surfaces of objects of similar optical reflectivity, (such as surfaces consisting of two similar specular materials, or surfaces partly covered with transparent films) which cannot be imaged using normal reflective image forming techniques.
Abstract: A method of printing an image on a substrate by applying to the substrate a film which is chemically activated by heat, and scanning the film by a beam of radiation according to the image to be printed, to chemically activate the film by heat and thereby to produce a pattern in the film according to the image scanned. The film includes a reagent capable of undergoing a redox reaction when heated in the presence of another reagent present with the film when scanned by the beam, to produce the redox reaction between the two reagents.
Abstract: A buffer system for TV receivers includes a cyclic storage device connectible to the demodulation circuits for continuously storing the audio and video signals last outputted thereby only over a predetemined time interval, enabling the viewer to jump-back to see a preceding portion of the TV broadcasts. In one described embodiment, the viewer normally sees the broadcasts in a real-time manner but may depress a button to see the broadcasts in a delayed-time manner via the cyclic storage device. In a second described embodiment, the viewer normally sees the broadcasts in a real-time manner, may depress a button to freeze a part of the broadcast in another storage device, and may later depress another button to play back the portion frozen.
Abstract: A flexible sheet storage device includes a releasable holder located within a container to receive the leading edge of each sheet as it is inserted via a slot into the container, and an angularly displaceable mounting for a releasable holder effective to angularly displace the releasable holder, and the leading edge of the sheet held thereby, a sufficient angular distance until the leading edge of the inserted sheet passes the trailing edge of any previously inserted sheets before the holder releases the leading edge of the inserted sheet and permits the inserted sheet to fall by gravity on top of previously inserted sheets.
Abstract: An article supporting device includes a tray for receiving articles to be supported by the device, an arm having one end secured to one side of the tray and extending longitudinally of the tray at the one side thereof; and a crossbar connected at one end to the opposite end of the arm. The crossbar extends substantially perpendicularly to the arm across the width of the tray with the opposite end of the crossbar spaced from the opposite side of the tray to define a space for the application of the device to the body of a person, thereby enabling the person to support the tray by the person's body alone and without the use of the person's hands.
