  • Patent number: 6491009
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of actuating a device for varying the valve timing of an internal combustion engine, said device comprising an element fixed to the camshaft and an element fixed to the crankshaft, which elements are in power-transmitting relationship with each other through at least one hydraulic working chamber formed within the device. When the internal combustion engine has been switched off, the element fixed to the camshaft can be mechanically coupled by a locking element to the element fixed to the crankshaft in a preferred basic position for starting the internal combustion engine. According to the invention, to avoid a jamming of the locking element during starting of the internal combustion engine, the solenoid of the hydraulic valve is at first subjected to a sudden energization with a current of an intensity lower that that required for the central position of the valve piston of the hydraulic valve.

  • Patent number: 6485401
Abstract: A process for drilling oil holes in a crankshaft at various positions lengthwise and widthwise about a longitudinal axis of the crankshaft, where the oil holes are perpendicular to and have angled directions with regards to the longitudinal axis. The process includes the sequential steps of placing the crankshaft in a horizontal position in a crankshaft holding unit and maintaining the crankshaft in a horizontal position through the drilling process. The holding unit is then rotated on a vertical axis until the crankshaft faces the drilling unit. The crankshaft is next rotated along the longitudinal axis of the crankshaft to position the crankshaft in a position for drilling a hole. The drill tool is then moved on a second and third axis until the drill tool is situated in order to drill the hole in the crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 6482588
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for detection and/or identification of HPV present on a biological sample, comprising the steps of amplification of HPV polynucleic acids and of hybridization of said amplified ploynucleic acids to a number of probes. By means of PCR, a short fragment of the L1 gene of HPV is amplified. The amplimers are then contacted with probes that specifically hybridize to said short fragment of the L1 gene of either one or more than one HPV type. A preferred format is the reverse hybridization technique, more particularly the LiPA technique. The invention also relates to primers and probes to be used in a method of detection and/or identification of HPV and to a diagnostic kit to perform said method.
