Abstract: A safety cushion provided by folding a tread portion of a discarded tire back onto itself. Fasteners can be employed for maintaining the tread portion in the folded position. The safety cushion can be placed between and underneath shipping crates, underneath hold-down straps for the shipping crates, or contained in conventional cylindrical containers employed as road abutments. A plurality of safety cushions can be contained in a holding frame assembly, or interconnected by a cable network to provide an impact device. A plurality of the impact devices can be positioned at the end of a guard rail, or connected end to end to provide an impact-absorbing retaining wall.

Abstract: An overcap assembly for a gear finish vial having a cap constructed and arranged to contain either a stopper-type closure or a sealing disc closure. A plurality of radially inwardly extending ribs are provided in the cap to maintain the closure in the cap and to cooperate with teeth on the gear finish to prevent turning of the cap assembly when in the sealing position on the vial. A plurality of inwardly extending tabs are provided on the lower end of the cap for selectively engaging shoulders on the vial neck for holding the overcap assembly upwardly from the neck of the vial in an unsealed position during the lyophilization procedure and downwardly on the neck of the vial when in the sealed position.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for masking components of a hot water tank from insulation wherein a carrier sheet containing a pair of inflatable rings is insertable into the space between the inner tank and outer shell of the hot water tank. The inflatable rings surround electrical components on the inner tank to prevent insulation injected into the space from covering the electrical components. Inflatable bags are insertable into threaded bores on fittings connected to the inner tank to prevent the insulation from covering the threaded bores, and to prevent insulation from escaping to the outside of the outer shell.

Abstract: A vend every time skill crane wherein a vendable prize, such as a capsule containing an item, is dispensed every time money is inserted into the machine while the claw and associated manipulator are simultaneously energized for an allotted play opportunity to allow a player to attempt to grasp and retrieve a prize, such as a stuffed toy animal or other items.

Abstract: A modular building having a steel shipping container core. Inner and outer wall coverings are secured to the corrugated side walls of the container and a laminate ceiling structure is secured to the interior surface of the container roof. A roof cap having a configuration corresponding to the roof of the container is mounted on the roof of the container, and the floor of the container provides a subflooring for the finished flooring of the building.

Abstract: The child resistant closure of the present invention comprises a cap having a first skirt portion adapted to be threaded on the neck of a container, and a second skirt portion having a pair diametrically disposed tabs provided with depending lugs adapted to engage a pair of diametrically disposed upwardly extending lugs integral with a ring molded integral with the neck of the container below the thread portion thereon. The lugs on the ring are positioned in proximity to the outer peripheral edge of the ring and are configured so that when screwing the cap onto the container the tab lugs will deflect radially outwardly when ratcheting over the ring lugs. When turning the cap in the opposite direction, the tab lugs engage the ring lugs to prevent removal of the cap. To remove the cap, the tabs are manually pressed radially inwardly away from the ring lugs while the cap is being turned in a direction to unscrew it from the container.

Abstract: A magnetic filter for an oil filter canister used on a vehicle and an oil pan on a vehicle transmission for attracting magnetic particles contained in the oil. The magnetic filter includes a magnet contained in a shallow cup having a suction cup for securing the magnetic filter in the operative position on the filter canister and oil pan.

Abstract: A vehicle mud guard made from discarded tires connected to a T-flange is connected to the vehicle body. The tires are recycled and easily attached to the T-flange.

Abstract: An appointment calendar for a hairstylist wherein a book type calendar is provided having index tabs for the twelve (12) months of the year, and double pages for each day of a respective month. Each day page is divided into a plurality of rows and columns defining rectangular areas for insertion of a customer's name, home and work telephone numbers; and abbreviation indicia indicating the particular service performed on the customer. The margin of each page contains a column with additional indicia, defining the abbreviation indicia in the rectangular areas. The margin of one page also includes indicia indicating the time of day in half-hour increments adjacent respective rows of rectangular areas for the first part of a particular day and the margin of the other page similarly includes indicia indicating the time of day in half-hour increments for the second part of the particular day.

Abstract: An electrical locking socket and multiple position swivel plug in which the socket has gripping members for holding the blades of a plug inserted into the socket, and the swivel plug is pivotally connected to the socket and latched at a desired angular position relative to the socket. Abstract: A cannula system for a biventricular cardiac support system or a cardiopulmonary bypass system wherein a first cannula having a pair of side-by-side lumens is adapted to be positioned within the left atrium and left ventricle and aorta of a patient. Blood from the left atrium and left ventricle drains into one of the lumens in the first cannula and is conveyed to the inlet of a pulsatile flow cardiopulmonary bypass pump from where it is pumped through the other lumen into the aorta of the patient. An inflatable balloon is provided at the distal end of the first cannula for holding the distal end of the cannula in the aorta above the aortic valve. The first cannula includes an axially extending bore communicating with a space in the aorta between the inflated balloon and the aortic valve for conveying cardioplegic solution to the space communicating with the left and right arteries of the patient.

Abstract: A top loading load cell mass comparator having a load cell and a cantilevered beam connected between the load cell and a weight supporting platform which is self-centering to compensate for off-center loading when moving or replacing weights on the platform. A preload compressive force is applied to the load cell to minimize hysterisis and creep error in the load cell during weight exchanges on the weight supporting platform.

Abstract: A locking mechanism for a quick response fire sprinkler includes an arcuate leaf spring having an inherent radially inwardly directed biasing force being split to provide spaced end portions. A circumferentially extending detent is provided in the peripheral face of the arcuate leaf spring for engaging a circumferential groove provided in the sprinkler valve housing. A fusible temperature responsive element is inserted between the spaced ends of the arcuate spring for spreading the arcuate spring and associated detent radially outwardly into the circumferential groove for holding the sprinkler valve in the closed position. When the temperature responsive element becomes fused, the arcuate leaf spring is retracted radially inwardly from the valve housing allowing the sprinkler valve to open.

Abstract: A swimming pool skimmer closure having a sealing face plate positioned across the open end of the skimmer inlet and held thereon by a bolt extending through the center of the face plate and through a transversely extending brace member abutting interior, transversely spaced shoulders integral with the skimmer housing. The face plate is tightened into sealing engagement against the skimmer inlet by a nut threaded onto the end of the bolt and abutting the brace member so that the skimmer can be drained without draining the pool water during the winterization of the pool.

Abstract: A window security device wherein a window bar assembly is slidably mounted in a frame assembly secured to the interior surface of a wall in which the window is mounted. A releasable fastener is connected between the bar assembly and the frame assembly for holding the bar assembly in an operative position across the window and releasable to allow the bar assembly to slide downwardly to an inoperative position away from the window. When in the inoperative position, the bar assembly provides a ladder to facilitate exit through the window in case of an emergency. When in the operative position, the bar assembly extends over fasteners securing the frame assembly to the wall to prevent access to the fasteners.

Abstract: A vapor compression distillation system including a boiler/condenser assembly wherein a portion of the condensate is redirected back to the condenser inlet to extract superheat from the compressed vapor and transfer it to the liquid in the boiler. The vapor entering the condenser is reduced to a saturation condition to prevent heat build up in the condenser to improve heat transfer efficiency. When the temperature of the incoming feed water is within the operating range of the boiler/condenser assembly, the system is operated under vacuum sufficient to match the boiler temperature with the temperature of the incoming feed water so that no preheater or waste heat recovery exchanges are required.

Abstract: A boiler/condenser assembly for a high efficiency purification system including a plate-in-frame type heat exchanger wherein vertically extending common plate members are provided with corrugated faces having herringbone configurations constructed and arranged to provide a plurality of contact points where the condensing surfaces of adjacent common plate members defining a condensing chamber come into near or direct contact which serve as accumulation points for the liquid forming on the condensing surfaces of both common plate members. The accumulated liquid is caused to flow off the condensing surfaces in a plurality of diagonal liquid flow paths.
