  • Patent number: 4461505
Abstract: The invention comprises a load-supporting beam provided with plates at each end which are pivotally mounted to pendants at each end, to which pendants are attached the suspending cables. Each pendant carries a hydraulic cylinder attached at one end to the pendant and at the other end to a crank affixed to the rotating element carrying the pivot for the load. That element is provided with an indexing pin which fits movably in a slot in the adjoining beam end plate. That end plate also has a second slot in line with the slot first mentioned, through which second slot passes the pivot bolt which also passes through the center of rotation of the rotating member. The center of gravity of the rotating load carrier is brought into alignment with the axis of rotation by adjusting the position of the indexing pin and the pivot bolt in the end plate slots.

  • Patent number: 4460888
Abstract: A simple and inexpensive low current fuse consists solely of a rigid rod of electrically insulating material and, extending throughout the length of and carried by the rod, at least one longitudinally continuous layer of electrically conductive material. At each of its ends the thickness of the layer is increased to constitute an effective fuse terminal and, at a position intermediate its terminals, is of such a cross-sectional area that it will melt or otherwise change state to interrupt a circuit at a predetermined overload or short circuit condition. The rod may be of tubular form and, in this case, the longitudinally continuous electrically conductive layer may be on the inner surface of the tubular rod and may extend over each end face of the rod and on to the outer surface of the rod at each end to form terminals of appropriate cross-sectional area.

  • Patent number: 4454692
Abstract: A metal raceway structure for use in composite, concrete-metal construction including an elongated metal deck having alternating ribs and valleys. A sheet underlies the deck in order to define a plurality of cells. The metal deck has spaced first and second ribs of generally equal height and an interposed third rib of lesser height than the first and second ribs. The ribs may have a top wall and depending sidewalls. The first and second ribs have sidewall openings facing the third rib and the third rib has at least one top wall opening. This permits electrical wires passing through each of the three cells to emerge at a single location generally within the valley between the first and second ribs. A housing member is provided in overlying relationship with respect to the third rib and has openings permitting communication between the interior of the housing and the three cells.

  • Patent number: 4454492
Abstract: The transformer is wound with multiple layers of the same number of turns extending across the bobbin and with the leads from each layer brought out through each end of the bobbin. The individual layers are wound with each turn immediately abutting the preceding turn and successive layers are wound on top of each other so that the turns of the upper layer lie in the furrows or valleys between the turns of the layer immediately below. The distance between the wires of the underlying and overlying layers normal to the bobbin surface is less than the diameter of the wire, and to overcome this difficulty each lead is arranged in echelon with the lead above and below it. Slot configurations for bobbins of both flat sided and cylindrical cores are developed.

  • Patent number: 4453497
Abstract: The operation of gas turbines in combined cycle or cogeneration plants utilizing circulating fluidized beds is improved by increasing the temperature of the air supplied them. The temperature of bed solids circulating through an external heat exchanger is raised by combusting fuel in a combustion-augmenting zone through which the circulating solids pass. The gaseous products are combustion from that zone are introduced into the fluidized bed combustor. Thus the fluidized bed combustor operates at temperatures affording optimum sulfur removal by sulfur absorbing materials, the combustion-augmenting zone operates at an appreciably higher temperature to provide increased heat transfer to the compressed air for the gas turbine, and the off gases from the combustion-augmenting zone, which may be high in sulfur, are cooled in the combustor so as to bring about their desulfurization therein. Suitable apparatus is provided.
