    Abstract: In a mop comprising a plurality of absorptive elements, a handle, and means joining said elements to said handle, the improvement wherein said absorptive elements comprise substantially flat strips of bonded nonwoven fabric, said strips ranging in width from about 5 to 60 mm, in length from about 15 to 60 cm and in thickness from about 0.5 to 3 mm. Binder may be printed onto the elements. The elements are flat and thus there is a greater area of contact with the surface being mopped. The elements may be joined into a round or elongate cross section mop by providing the elements with cuts through which a male member projects, the male member locking with a snap fit into a female member to which a mop handle is attached. Projections may be provided in the male and/or female members to immobilize the absorptive elements.

    Abstract: A process of treating an aqueous liquor which has been used to scrub a hot raw gas produced by the gasification of a solid, liquid or gaseous fuel, which liquor has dissolved therein gaseous pollutant, comprising flashing said liquor from a temperature of at least 100.degree. C and a pressure of at least about 5 bars in at least on preliminary flashing stage to an intermediate pressure in the range of about 1.1 to 4 bars, separating the flashed-off gases containing the bulk of the pollutants from the residual aqueous liquor, and then flashing off the residual liquor to atmospheric pressure. The pollutant gas may contain H.sub.2 S and the gas product of the preliminary flashing can be fed to a Claus process for removing sulfur compounds.

    Abstract: A high-temperature-resistant nonwoven fabric comprising synthetic fibers bonded to one another, said fibers comprising at least one polyaryl amide, polyaryl imide, polyaryl ester or polyaryl anhydride, said fibers being resistant to temperatures up to about 350.degree. C and being resistant to prolonged exposure to a temperature of at least 200.degree. C, is produced by bonding a suitable nonwoven web employing a solution containing a swelling agent and/or a bonding agent for the fiber. If a bonding agent is present, it is of substantially the same composition as the fiber and is precipitated or coagulated by treating the impregnated web with a liquid miscible with the solvent of the solution but which is a non-solvent for the bonding agent. The fabric is washed and dried and then preferably calendered at high temperature so that all the polymeric material is crystallized.

The diluent is advantageously a hydrocarbon, a halogenated hydrocarbon or a high-boiling ether. The products are known intermediates for making insecticides.
