Abstract: An improved governor device for a telephone dial which includes a rectangular hexahedral chamber provided with a rack engaged with a pinion and a cylindrical chamber provided with a piston secured to said rack at one end and having a valve system. The two chambers are filled up with a certain liquid such as silicone oil in order to afford a resistance to the piston. The piston can move either way upon dialing and at this time due to the resistance from the liquid the piston can reciprocate without any noise within a certain interval.
Abstract: A pedometer assembly comprises a base disc, pendulum adapted to swing at every step and a display panel. This display panel is rotatably in response to swinging movement of the pendulum and is provided at its periphery with a cylindrical wall. The wall is scored or provided on its outer surface with graduation for indicating the number of repetitions. The surface of the display panel is provided with a proportional diagram adapted for use in the determination of the relation between the number of repetitions, the distance which has been run, and the amount of calories consumed.
Abstract: An image dividing system for use in television wherein the optical image of a subject is divided into parts and picked up by means of a plurality of exclusive image pickup tubes assigned thereto respectively, and a continuous video image of the subject is produced by a picture tube which is equipped with a plurality of electron guns correspondingly to the image pickup tubes and has an integral viewing screen.
Abstract: A conveyor using rollers as the conveying surface and driven by a drive unit composed of a drive gear mounted on a drive shaft and driving a number of pinion gears each of which is connected to a roller through a flexible shaft. A sprocket wheel is mounted for free rotation on the drive shaft and pair of thrust washers is fixed to the drive shaft on either side of the sprocket wheel. The thrust washers are biased against the sprocket wheel by a spring which provides an adjustable torque. A number of modules containing rollers and a drive unit as just described are mounted together to form a conveyor system.
Abstract: A novel valve mechanism using the so-called "rolling seal" type flexible cover tube. This cover tube is fitted fluid-tight on the outer circumference of a generally cylindrical inner movable valve member which is formed with an axial bore providing a fluid passage and which is further formed at its outer circumference with a valve port having communication with the axial bore. The cover tube has its at least one end radially turned or rolled radially outwardly to provide a turned annular lip where it is fitted on a fastened outer cylinder. Thus, the valve port is opened and closed by the outward and inward rolling motions of the annular lip of the cover tube due to the relative movements in the axial direction between the outer cylinder and the inner valve member. By the use of the valve mechanism thus constructed, a charging valve for a gas lighter can be provided.
Abstract: A cutting tool for machine tools which has a coolant pipe within the clamp holder, a covering over at least a portion of the clamp holder with a space between the clamp holder and the covering, and coolant outlet holes from the pipe to the space. This provides efficient cooling of the cutting tool without allowing the coolant to come into direct contact with the cutting plate.
Abstract: A seat belt retractor provided with an emergency locking mechanism comprises a seat belt retractor body having right and left side plates and a retractor shaft, first and second locking means, a support member having therein pawls adapted to be engaged with said first locking means and a retaining member which are integrally secured to one end of said retractor shaft, a plate mounted on said retaining member such that it is turnable together with said retaining member but is movable relative thereto and a pawl member which is rockingly mounted on said plate for restraint thereof. This seat belt retractor also includes a weight plate adapted to detect an abrupt acceleration of a webbing and designed such that it performs a delayed rotation, by the inertia thereof, with respect to said retaining member when the acceleration of the webbing caused by changes in the extracting speed thereof exceeds a predetermined value.
Abstract: A stitched-down shoe in which the upper or the upper material has an outwardly-turned edge which is sewn directly to a base. The base has a lateral seam groove extending around the periphery thereof and near the top of the base, and pre-formed stitch holes directed essentially perpendicular to the seam groove. The upper is stitched to the base through the stitch holes. In another embodiment, air holes are provided through the shoe base to allow "breathing" and interior grooves are provided connecting the air holes.
Abstract: A display board comprises a frame, two longitudinally displaceable legs extending in the plane of the board, a support articulated to the top of the display board and arranged to be swung at an angle to the plane of the board and a pair of struts between the board and the support to secure the latter in a swung-out position. Each of the struts is articulated to a respective leg of the board and to a component which is axially displaceable to a limited extent on the support. When the support is swung-in to a position in which it extends substantially parallel to the plane of the frame, the articulation points of the struts on the respective legs are located above the said axially displaceable component and therefore above the articulation points of the struts on the support. An extension member is telescopically arranged in the support and can be secured in position by a clamping member mounted on the support. The clamping member also serves to limit axial movement of the axially displaceable component.
Abstract: A caisson structure facilitating communication between a ship and a quay comprises a displacement unit having ballasting members, and a first housing located at one end of the displacement structure and having sufficient height to reach above high tide water level, even when the displacement unit rests upon the harbor bottom. This housing has a platform, from which a ramp extends at least to a second housing at the opposite end of the displacement unit. The second housing comprises machinery for raising and lowering the adjacent end of the ramp, as this is required to facilitate access to the ship with changing tide water levels.
Abstract: A gas lighter is provided wherein a bomb which is filled with a gas-evolving liquid and which is provided with a nozzle for discharging vaporized gas is detachably attached to one side of a body having on its upper portion an ignition device comprising a flint and an ignition file, and a member which is made to engage and disengage the nozzle of said bomb so as to open and close a discharge hole is slidably or fixedly attached to an ignition portion of said body. As a flame-adjusting member, used is a member provided on its periphery with a rotatable tooth form portion, which is fitted into a tooth-like support portion of the body.
Abstract: A mechanism for mounting a side mirror to a master cylinder for a motor bicycle in which a side mirror-mounting portion is formed on a handle-mounting member by which the body of a master cylinder is fixed to a handle bar. Such a mirror-mounting portion may be defined by a boss portion in integral relation to a handle-mounting member. Use may be made of the boss portion of any structure capable of retaining a side mirror-mounting shaft.
