Abstract: Electronic outdoor warning siren systems which include a plurality of speakers arranged in one or more vertically spaced circular arrays of circumferentially spaced vertically oriented speakers to achieve substantially uniform coverage in all radial directions in a horizontal plane, and utilizing frequency variations in adjacent speakers in a given horizontal plane to minimize interference between sound signals from adjacent speakers thereby permitting closer spacing of speakers than would otherwise be feasible and providing uniform omni-directional sound propagation. The same frequency variations are also employed with a plurality of speakers oriented in the same direction and rotated through 360.degree. to accomplish the same result of minimal interference and more uniform sound propagation.
Abstract: An injection mold utilizes a collapsible core portion which includes a core portion and a mold cavity portion. A core base is provided as part of the core portion. A first mold ring is positioned about the core base and longitudinally movable to define a first annular parting line between the core base and first mold ring. The first mold ring carries outer core members and controls their longitudinal positioning along the core base while permitting them to move radially inwardly and outwardly between molding and collapsed positions. A second mold ring is carried on the core and includes stripper ring means, the second mold ring being longitudinally movable to define a second annular parting line with the first mold ring. The second mold ring also forms a third, annular parting line with the mold cavity portion. Means are provided for relatively moving the core base, mold cavity portion, and first and second mold rings in a longitudinal direction relative to each other and the mold cavity portion.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for high volume preparation of cross-sectional specimens of printed circuit boards for microscopic examination, including a method and apparatus for precision mounting of a large number of such cross sections in a single molding sequence for simultaneous polishing of such cross sections in a single polishing operation.
Abstract: A multi-functional electromechanical vehicular switch having a linear ignition switch and a headlamp dimmer combined in a single unit. The ignition switch is constructed as a conventional design. The headlight dimmer employs a self-adjusting mechanism to insure the actuator gear remains in contact with a rack through a biased action if the rack over travels the partial gear of the dimmer mechanism.
Abstract: A flash strobe power supply adapted for controlling alternately the energization of a pair of flash lamps includes a trigger timing device for generating a series of positive pulses and a series of negative pulses spaced in time from the positive pulses by a predetermined interval. First and second energy storage devices are provided for repeatedly charging incrementally during successive charging cycles and for storing a charge to be applied to respective first and second flash lamps. An inverter oscillator circuit includes a pulse width modulator and a transformer for generating a quasi-squarewave signal whose frequency is greater than the frequency of the positive and negative pulses to control the incremental charging of the energy storage devices. First and second switching devices deliver when conductive the charge stored in the first and second energy storage devices to their respective first and second flash lamps.

Abstract: Fibrous padding in which the fibers are held together by a binder. The binder comprises a mixture of (a) an R.F. sealable dried residue of a thermoplastic latex emulsion, and (b) an R.F. sealable plastic powder of polyester, polyamide, or mixtures thereof which melt in a narrower temperature range than the latex emulsion residue. Such fibrous padding is capable of R.F. sealing with better adhesion to loose weave knit fabrics which are uncoated with adhesive, and the resulting bond exhibits improved heat stability.
Abstract: A coupler for rotary dump cars having a coupler head cast integral with a rotating spindle. The coupler includes a widened shank-spindle housing to accommodate the enlarged end of the spindle for better load characteristics.
Abstract: A warning light system for emergency vehicles having a pair of forward rotating lights and a pair of rear rotating lights separated by a reflector structure. A cam and plunger arrangement causes the rotating light assemblies to stop at a predetermined position to serve as end lights in a secondary mode. The rotation of the light assemblies is synchronized to produce a series of inwardly moving flashes from each end of the housing.
Abstract: A control valve assembly for controlling the flow of abrasive slurry from a supply pump, directing a selected amount of abrasive slurry to the lapping wheel of an associated lapping machine, and recirculating the remainder of the supply of abrasive slurry to the supply pump.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for polishing the ends of fiber optic connectors by gripping an end to be polished and yieldingly urging it against a moving abrasive member in a manner so as to gradually build up the force between the fiber optic end and the abrasive member from an initial low force to a maximum force.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the concentration of a predetermined energy absorbing compound in a breath sample even in the presence of other unknown energy absorbing compounds. Infrared energy of three wavelengths are passed through the collected sample. The first wavelength of infrared energy, 3.95 microns for example, is selected to be insensitive to absorption by both the predetermined energy absorbing compound such as ethanol and the unknown energy absorbing compounds such as acetone and water vapor. The second wavelength of infrared energy, 3.48 microns for example, is selected to be significantly absorbed by ethanol. The third wavelength of infrared energy, 3.39 microns for example, is selected to be significantly absorbed by acetone and water vapor.
Abstract: A circuit board capable of accommodating a condensed number of integrated circuit components by being divided into sections to permit the mounting of devices of assorted pin spacings. In another embodiment, a leadless, integrated circuit device may be mounted on the board with increased grounding elements to increase electrical isolation of the leadless chip carrier for better operative results. The circuit board herein disclosed is also arranged to provide a dual voltage plane to accommodate different electrical requirements presented by using a number of integrated circuit packages.
Abstract: A damping mechanism for a truck assembly employing a resiliently mounted wedge to cooperate with a bolster in a manner to prevent wear. The damping assembly is biased outwardly and a friction plate employed between the wedge and bolster, further reducing frictional contact with the side frame.
Abstract: A molded plastic container having a snap-on lid which is affixed to an external undercut on the lip of the container. A second internal undercut engaging the lid structure is also provided. An internal flange is formed within the container adjacent its mouth and creates a pocket in which a plurality of reinforcement ribs are positioned. The ribs may alternatively be diagonal or radial in orientation. The lid structure includes an annular pocket in which radial, crossing, or diagonal strengthening ribs may also be provided.
Abstract: A container mold comprising a mold cavity portion and a mold core portion with the cavity and core portions being relatively moveable between a closed and an open position. By this invention, means are provided for molding a recess-defining flange in the container.
Abstract: A DC brushless motor is provided in which the stator has a central annular portion defining a central aperture, a plurality of winding core members which extend radially from the central annular portion and a plurality of intermediate core members which extend radially from the central annular portion and are positioned intermediate the winding core portions. A single stator winding extends around the winding core portions. The coils of the winding on adjacent winding core portions are wound in opposite directions electrically. A control circuit is provided for simultaneously exciting all of the winding coil portions and for electrically reversing the exciting current as a function of the rotational position of the rotor.A Hall sensor is positioned intermediate a winding core portion and an intermediate core portion and is connected to the control circuit for detecting the rotational position of the rotor with respect to the stator.
