  • Patent number: 4488209
Abstract: A portable lighting apparatus having a lamp assembly attached to the top of an elongated mast, preferably formed of interconnectable relatively short sections. The lamp assembly includes at least one electric lamp affixed to a horizontal shaft for rotation about a horizontal axis. Associated with the horizontal shaft are a pair of gears, suitably a vertical rack and a pinion engaged therewith, the pinion being operatively attached to the horizontal shaft. A spring associated with the pinion tends to rotate the gear in a direction which biases the engaged rack downwardly. The lower end of the rack abuts a movable pushrod generally centrally located within the hollow mast and running the length thereof. The lower end of the mast is telescopically mounted on a mast support provided with a fixed vertical stoprod which abuts the lower end of the pushrod.

  • Patent number: 4476083
Abstract: The following specification describes a stop boss formed on the handle of a pail by means of a pair of slides located behind a skirt wall of the pail with the handle passing through a slot in the skirt wall, which is closed by a flange wall formed by the slides. The slides are movably carried in guides by a ring member and are received in a recess of another ring member which conventionally forms the annular pail wall. The guides enable the slides to move laterally toward each other in response to downward movement of the carrying ring member, to define the cavities for forming the stop boss and the flange wall closing the skirt wall slot. On completion of the mold cycle and upward movement of the ring member carrying the slides, the guides move the slides laterally apart to release the stop boss and the flange wall. The slides are then moved from between the skirt and pail walls to enable the pail to be released from the mold.

  • Patent number: 4460223
Abstract: a cover assembly for a leadless chip carrier socket including a spring cover and locking bracket selectively positionable on a socket body in any one of four positions. The spring cover is pivotally mounted on the socket body and is movable between an open position and a closed position at which the cover engages the locking bracket. The cover is formed with four arm members which are spring loaded and which engage the top of a chip carrier at eight pressure points. The force exerted by the spring cover in a closed position applies a downward force against the chip package to effect positive electrical contact with a plurality of contacts mounted in the socket which are adapted to be interconnected with a printed circuit board or circuit pad.

  • Patent number: 4460237
Abstract: Contact designs for leadless chip carrier sockets of either the surface compression or the solder type. The contact for a compression type socket employs a dual cantilever configuration mounted on a base member which mechanically isolates one portion of the contact from another. Two cooperative contact designs are used for a solder type socket in which each type is alternately arranged with respect to the other in mounted relationship on a base member. The upper chip carrier contacting portions of the two contacts for a solder type socket are disposed side-by-side along each side wall, while the terminal ends are aligned inwardly perpendicular to the upper alignment.

  • Patent number: 4445743
Abstract: The disclosed invention improves upon electrical connectors that when mated together provide electrical continuity across the connectors, and that are held mated together by bayonet locking means. A sleeve element is threaded onto an exterior portion of one of the connectors and bottomed upon rotation against the opposite connector and/or support structure for the opposite connector. This bottomed sleeve element maintains the bayonet locking means engaged, and thereby prevents accidental disengagement of the connectors.

  • Patent number: 4420093
Abstract: A molded bucket comprises a bucket lip defining an enlarged annular projection at the mouth of the bucket; an inwardly positioned annular shelf facing the mouth adjacent the lip; and an outwardly positioned annular flange joined to said bucket adjacent the annular shelf to provide extra hoop strength to the area of the shelf. The lid for the bucket defines an annular recess receiving the annular projection of the bucket lip in locking relation and an annular straight wall which extends radially inwardly from the recess, at an angle of essentially 20.degree. to 60.degree. from the axis of the bucket, with the inner edge extending outwardly toward the mouth relative to the outer edge. The angled annular straight wall serves as a cantilever beam to transmit stacking force to the annular shelf, so that the bucket does not distort or collapse under conditions of high stacking, the bucket being preferably a tapered bucket.

  • Patent number: 4414783
Abstract: A coolant system for use with a cutter of the type having a vertically disposed rotatable cutter wheel for cutting metallurgical samples and other objects. Such a cutter has a motor-driven rotatable abrasive or metal cutting wheel or blade, and a workpiece holder which holds a specimen workpiece from which a section is to be sliced off. Either the cutter wheel or the workpiece holder is movable to bring the workpiece into engagement with the cutter wheel. The coolant system is combined with a blade guard which covers a major portion of the rotatable cutting blade for safety reasons, and the coolant system distributes a coolant fluid in an advantageous manner onto the center of the vertically disposed rotating cutting blade on both sides thereof so as to bathe the workpiece over the entire cutting area. The coolant system is primarily intended for use with a cutter of the type where the workpiece is moved into engagement with the cutter wheel during a cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4401109
Abstract: A vibratory massage device comprising a casing, a flat spring member which carries magnetically attractable masses adjacent opposed ends thereof, and electromagnetic means for vibrating the spring member and masses. By the improvement of this invention electromagnetic means comprising an integral core piece having a pair of parallel arms is provided, with surrounding electric coil means, with the parallel arms defining free ends generally V-shaped in cross section. The magnetically attractable masses include mating members positioned to magnetically interact with the free ends, and of a shape to fit in mating relation with the free ends. As the result of this, upon actuation of the electric coil means to create a pulsating magnetic field in the parallel arms, the spring member and masses are subjected to a pulsating magnetic force of improved strength for improved vibratory movement into and out of the mating relation.

  • Patent number: 4386751
Abstract: A switch point guard for railroad track having a guard or deflector rail positioned to prevent flanges of railroad wheels from striking the switch point. The guard rail is carried on support members for rigid retention in a fixed, predetermined position relative to the track. By this invention the guard rail is carried by horizontally positioned guard rail plate means attached to the side of the guard rail. Apertures are defined in the rail plate means with chock plates positioned in the apertures. The chock plates each define an aperture off center in the direction perpendicular to the guard rail, with the support members defining attached projecting members occupying the off-center apertures. Accordingly, peripheral edges of the chock plates occupy different positions depending upon which side of the chock plates faces toward the rail track. Thus the predetermined position of the guard rail can be varied.

  • Patent number: 4387279
Abstract: An improved column mounted switch for vehicles and the like for controlling the windshield wipers and the windshield washer in an automobile or truck. One or more rotatable carriers are in electrical contact with a base member having electrical conductors. The rotatable carriers also have conductive member means which can enter into and pass out of electrically conductive relation with the electrical conductors to act as a switch having multiple functions. The carrier may comprise shaped portions of a conductive metal plate, with the shaped portions being embedded in an insulating plastic disc. Thus the shaped portions form a part of the smooth face of the disc which can smoothly rotate in contact with the electrical conductors of the base, while an added contact may be provided to the carrier by means of a conductive ring, as part of the conductive metal plate, exposed to the other side of the carrier for contact with other conductive member means.
