Abstract: N-(mono or disubstituted Phenoxyalkyl)imidazoles and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are able to selectively inhibit the action of the thromboxane synthetase enzyme without significantly inhibiting the action of the prostacycline synthetase or cyclooxygenase enzymes and are thus useful in the treatment of ischaemic heart disease, stroke, transient ischaemic attack, thrombosis migraine and the vascular complications of diabetes.
Abstract: An improved antiinflammatory composition and method of treating inflammation which employs a combination of an antiinflammatory agent (e.g. indomethacin or an oxicam) with a histamine-H.sub.2 antagonist selected from the group consisting of 2-guanidino-4-(4-imidazolyl)thiazole, 2-guanidino-4-(2-methyl-4-imidazolyl )thiazole, 2-(N-benzyl-N'-guanidino)-4-(2-methyl-4-imidazolyl)thiazole, 2-(N-pentyl-N'-guanidino)-4-(2-methyl-4-imidazolyl)thiazole and 2-guanidino-4-[2-(hexylamino)-4-imidazolyl]thiazole.
Abstract: 1-Alkyl-6,8-difluoro-7-heterocyclic-1,4-dihydroquinol-4-one 3-carboxylic acids having antibacterial activity are prepared by conventional cyclization methods.

Abstract: Processes and intermediates useful in the preparation of bronchodilator compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, methyl or hydroxymethyl are described. Those compounds wherein R is H or CH.sub.3 have been found to have further utility as intermediates for pirbuterol (wherein R is hydroxymethyl).
Abstract: 2-Guanidino-4-(2-methyl-4-imidazolyl)thiazole dihydrobromide and a one-pot, high yield process for its preparation from 2-methyl-4(or 5)-acetylimidazole.
Abstract: An oxide dispersion strengthened cobalt-chromium superalloy produced by mechanical alloying containing a refractory oxide, preferably yttrium oxide, and characterized by excellent corrosion resistance, high fatigue strength and high temperature stability; and prostheses formed from said superalloy.
Abstract: A novel process is described for preparation of biotin comprising preparation of substituted 3H, 5H-imidazo[1, 5c]tetrahydro thiazoles by contacting the boron triflouride adduct of an appropriate thiazoline with the metallic derivative of an ester enolate, reducing the ester, hydrolyzing the thiazolidine moiety and hydrolyzing or oxidizing the resultant compound. Intermediates obtained in the preparation of biotin by the above process and alternate procedures for preparing said intermediates are also presented. A novel process for preparation of d-biotin is also given.
Abstract: A bone nail for the treatment of fractures in the proximal femur zone is disclosed having a distal end portion adapted to be disposed at the outer surface of the femoral condyle, said end portion being provided with a coupling portion for engagement with a driving tool, a proximal end portion adapted to be seated in the proximal femur, and an arcuately curved portion between the ends, with the proximal end portion being provided with a rounded-off thickened portion at the free end thereof.
Abstract: A series of novel antibacterially active derivatives of indolmycin as well as some prodrug forms of indolmycin is disclosed. A novel process for the production of these compounds is also disclosed.
Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve comprising a stent having an annular base and a plurality of legs extending upwardly from said base; a valve element circumscribing said stent and attached thereto, said valving element comprising a number of cooperating valve leaflets equal to the number of said legs; and a layer of biologically-compatible material secured to said stent and positioned between said stent and said leaflets, said layer having a smooth, non-abrasive outer surface and covering all of the surfaces of said stent that, in the absence of said layer, would contact the mobile portions of said leaflets during the normal function of the valve.

Abstract: A Yarrowia lipolytia strain (PC-30827) ATCC 20688 which is utilized as a suitable host for cloning. The strain is a double auxotroph and requires medium supplemented with leucine and uracil for growth.
Abstract: Stable aqueous solutions of piroxicam suitable for pharmaceutical use are disclosed. These solutions all contain piroxicam in conjunction with a sub-stoichiometric amount of D-(-)-N-methylglucamine and have proplyene glycol, ethanol and water as the solvent, with the pH of said solutions being in the range of from about pH 8 to about pH 9. These particular pharmaceutical compositions possess excellent chemical stability properties and are especially suitable for parenteral administration.
Abstract: Calcium-aluminum briquettes comprising a mechanically compressed mixture of 65 to 80% by weight of calcium granules and 20 to 35% by weight of aluminum granules are added to molten lead to obtain a lead alloy containing about 0.1% by weight of calcium and 0.03% by weight of aluminum.
Abstract: A dual lumen subclavian cannula is disclosed for use in hemodialysis where the lumens are formed by a septum dividing an essentially circular tube longitudinally. The blood return lumen is closed at its distal end by a blunt point and has openings in its side wall proximal to the point. The blood inlet lumen has an open distal end plus openings in the side wall which are proximal to the analogous openings in the blood return lumen. A manifold at the proximal end of the tube separately distributes blood into the return lumen and collects blood from the inlet lumen.
Abstract: An aiming apparatus for making transverse bores in a patient's bone in register with the holes or bores of an osteosynthesis aid in the bone, especially an interlocking nail, comprises an elongated holder for the accommodation of an aiming member adapted to be brought into the beam path of an X-ray apparatus, a reception head for receivig a drill or wire drill rotatably supported in the holder, and a power drive supported by the holder for rotatably driving the reception head. The reception head is made of a material transparent to X-ray radiation.
