  • Patent number: 8352921
Abstract: A computer-implemented error detection mechanism for detecting programming errors in a computer program. The computer-implemented error detection method described herein can make use of a Function Behavior Knowledge Base (FBKB) to approximate how a virtual function changes state of the program execution for all methods that can be called at each specific invocation point. The FBKB is used to select what implementation of a virtual function should be called in order to give rise to a programming defect. By dropping implementations that do not lead to a programming defect, the set of possible object runtime types is reduced. If this set is empty by the end of the analysis, then a defect is not possible, otherwise the set of object runtime types will contain types that may cause a defect.

  • Patent number: 8338016
Abstract: A battery pack to be mounted in a vehicle incorporates a battery stack and a cooling fan. An air intake is formed in a side face located in the vicinity of the cooling fan. In consideration of passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, the air intake is formed as well in a plane generated as a result of removal of a corner. A louver for preventing intrusion of extraneous matter is disposed at the front of the air intake. A decrease in the amount of cooling air induced by the louver is lessened by means of forming the air intake in the plane.

  • Patent number: 8339275
Abstract: An arrangement that includes a transmitter unit and a receiver for locating a circuit interrupter associated with a selected branch circuit of a power distribution system. The transmitter is electrically interconnected with the selected branch circuit and produces a sequence of tracing signals in a branch circuit that is to be traced. Each tracing signal is transmitted and detected at times measured with respect to a detected known phase of the signal on the branch circuit. In one embodiment, tracing signals are transmitted on a branch circuit of a 3 phase power distribution system when the branch circuit to be tested has a positive phase and the other phases are negative.

  • Patent number: 8339410
Abstract: A method for obtaining and analyzing information objects including generating, collecting or discovering information objects. The information objects are signified at least in part using deliberately ambiguated signifier prompts, for example, linear scale opposing negatives or positives, and/or multi-dimensional signifier prompts. The information objects may comprise text or non-text fragments, and may be generated or selected. The responses to the signifier prompts are stored with the fragments to provide a dataset of signified fragments. The signified fragments may be analyzed based on the signifiers and can be utilized as part of an explorable knowledge repository, or objective measures can be created to aid in mass opinion capture or human attitude auditing. The fragments may be represented on a graphical template.

  • Patent number: 8339272
Abstract: An arrangement that includes a transmitter unit and a receiver for locating a wire or a circuit interrupter associated with a selected branch circuit of a power distribution system. The transmitter is electrically interconnected with the selected branch circuit and produces a sequence of current pulses in a branch circuit that is to be traced to locate an associated circuit interrupter. Each current pulse is of a predetermined duration, a predetermined rise time, and a predefined fall time, which in one embodiment is equal to the current pulse rise time. The receiver is a handheld unit that is positioned in close proximity with the various circuit interrupters of the power distribution system and provides an indication that the desired wire or circuit interrupter has been located upon detecting current pulses that are with a predefined pulse duration, pulse separation and amplitude.

  • Patent number: 8337310
Abstract: The invention utilizes the predicted margin of victory in an event as a metric on which to base an online game in which users attempt to predict the outcome of an upcoming event or set of events. The game also utilizes the aggregate of all the margins set by users participating in the game as a measure of how users participating in the game, as a whole, are predicting the outcome of a pending event. This is achieved by means of a method for enabling users to identify upcoming events within the context of the game and enter values to record their predicted winners and margins for one or more of these upcoming events.
