Abstract: A fuel additive composition comprising: (a) an aromatic ester compound of the formula: ##STR1## or a fuel soluble salt thereof, wherein R is hydroxy, nitro or --(CH.sub.2).sub.x --NR.sub.5 R.sub.6, wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and x is 0 or 1;R.sub.1, is hydrogen, hydroxy, nitro or --NR.sub.7 R.sub.8, wherein R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms;R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; andR.sub.4 is a polyalkyl group having an average molecular weight in the range of about 450 to 5,000; and(b) a poly(oxyalkylene) amine having at least one basic nitrogen atom and a sufficient number of oxyalkylene units to render the poly(oxyalkylene) amine soluble in hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel fuel range.The fuel additive compositions of this invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

Abstract: A polyalkyl ester of a substituted polyphenylether having the formula: ##STR1## wherein A is amino, aminomethyl, cyano, nitro, N-alkylamino or N-alkylaminomethyl wherein the alkyl group contains about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, or N,N-dialkylamino or N,N-dialkylaminomethyl wherein each alkyl group independently contains about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms; R.sub.1 a polyalkyl group having an average molecular weight in the range of about 450 to about 5000; and x is an integer from about 1 to about 10 and y is an integer from 0 to about 10. The polyalkyl esters of the substituted polyphenyl ethers of the present invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

Abstract: Disclosed are liquid alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamates which do not form a wax when cooled to -40.degree. C. in a 50 weight percent solution with toluene, said aminocarbamates having at least one basic nitrogen and an average molecular weight of about 600 to 6,000 and wherein the alkyl group is substantially straight-chain of from 25 to 50 carbon atoms. Also disclosed are fuel compositions and concentrates as well as lubricating oil compositions and concentrates containing said alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamates.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of an alkenyl-substituted succinic anhydride wherein the alkenyl substituent has a number average molecular weight of from about 500 to 5000 and the average number of succinic groups per alkenyl group is greater than 1.2 which comprises reacting a polyolefin having an alkylvinylidene isomer content of less than about 10 percent and a number average molecular weight of about 500 to 5000 with maleic anhydride in the presence of a free radical initiator at a temperature in the range of about 80.degree. C. to 220.degree. C. for a period of less than 20 hours, wherein the molar ratio of maleic anhydride to polyolefin is about 1.0:1 to 9:1, and wherein the half-life of the decomposition of the free radical initiator is about 5 minutes to 10 hours at the reaction temperature.

Abstract: A lubricating oil composition comprising a normally liquid alpha-olefin oligomer consisting essentially of repeating units having the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein x represents an integer from 3 to 11, inclusive; andy represents the number of repeating units in the oligomer such that the weight average molecular weight is from about 5,000 to about 20,000;said oligomer having from about 70 to 100 percent head-to-tail alignment of the repeating units of the oligomer. Preferably the weight average molecular weight of the oligomer is from 5,000 to about 10,000; and said oligomer is further characterized as having a dispersity of less than about 5.5, and a Z average molecular weight of less than about 24,000.
