  • Patent number: 5097920
Abstract: Hydraulic steering mechanism is extended through an aperture in an end wall in a housing that has a pressure chamber, the steering mechanism including a slide rotatable with the steering column. An axial bearing is mounted by the end wall for rotatably mounting the steering mechanism while the aperture axially opposite end portion mounts a sealing ring between the housing and the steering mechanism. Axially between the sealing ring and the bearing there is a pressure reduction ring providing an annular gap with the slide for throttling the flow of fluid from the pressure chamber to a fluid collecting chamber that at least in part is defined by the pressure reduction and sealing rings. Fluid can flow from the collecting chamber through a housing outlet. The pressure reduction ring has an enlarged diameter flange for sealingly engaging the end wall and being clamped between the wall and the axial bearing.

  • Patent number: 5095550
Abstract: A closure made of wind resistant material for motorcycle helmets. One embodiment of the closure has a front flap (20) which opens to allow the head to pass through the closure into the helmet. The front flap closes with hook and loop or other fasteners. The rear of the closure has an elastic panel (12) to allow stretching as the helmet passes over the head. An elasticized neck ribbing (14) closes around the wearer's neck. The closure attaches to the helmet by means of squeezing the outer (upper) edge of the closure between the helmet padding and helmet shell, as well as with hook and loop fasteners. In a second embodiment the closure has a continuous panel having front edge portions with one of hook and loop fasteners for removably securing the front edge portions to one another. A third embodiment has longitudinally extending straps for mounting the closure to the helmet.

  • Patent number: 5085400
Abstract: A stepped piston is axially displaceable in the stepped piston valve chamber and has a front face facing the front face of the valve seat and an axially opposite surface formed at the juncture of its piston head portion to its reduced diameter shaft portion. The piston has an axial through-bore that opens to fluid connecting bore in the valve housing while the housing has a second fluid connecting bore. The piston is displaceable in the chamber between an open position permitting substantial fluid flow between the connecting bores and a closed position having its front face resting against the valve seat face to permit a leakage flow gap between the faces when pressurized fluid acts against the piston surface and block substantial fluid flow between the first bore and the second bore. A spring in the chamber urges the piston toward its closed position.

  • Patent number: 5084022
Abstract: Disclosed herein are various types of guidewires that are provided with spaced indicia to indicate the distance that a guidewire is extended into a vascular vessel, catheter or other instruments. That is, there are disclosed J-type, linear type and steerable type guidewires. Preferably the indicia is made up of a system of marks to indicate various units of measurements, for example units of 10, with narrow bands representing the units such as 10, 20, 30 and 40 while wider bands represent units of 50. If the guidewire is a double ended guidewire then the indicia would represent progressively higher indicia from each end of the linear part of the guidewire. Preferably the marks are formed by electro-chemical etching of the metal wire forming at least a part of the guidewire and if desired may be provided with a clear plastic coating that is non-toxic and bio-compatible. The marks may be formed by other process, for example laser treatment.

  • Patent number: 5071128
Abstract: A simulated football game having a magnetic disc rollable out of a chute onto a scrimmage field on which defense players having a piece of iron embedded therein are movably situated, a huddle being releasably retained to retain the disc in the chute. The disc is used for determining running play yardage, the disc being rollable into a defense player. A calculator wheel is rotated in only one direction by dual gears regardless of the direction of rotation of the gears and simultaneously moves a marker over a marker field to indicate the position of a football relative to the marker field. The wheel is used to ascertain yardage resulting from passing, and other type plays. A marble carrier is rotated a fraction of a complete revolution each time a plunger is depressed for indicating a play and releasing the huddle to allow a disc to roll out of the chute. The carrier in being rotated, at times, discharges a marble to roll onto the scrimmage field for indicating whether there is a penalty or a fumble.

  • Patent number: 5062305
Abstract: The measuring tube is for an electromagnetic flow meter and has a tube member made of a non-magnetic material that is provided with opposite through passages that have electrodes extended therethrough. An insulating lining of an enamel priming layer coats the inner surface of the tube member and fills the gaps between the electrodes and the tube member surfaces defining the through passages, the lining also including an covering enamel layer covering the priming layer surface that is within the tube member interior. The end faces of the electrodes that are in the tube member interior have the enamel material cleared therefrom. The priming layer may be formed by filling the tube member with a priming enamel slip, pouring out the slip material, cleaning the electrode end surfaces that are within the tube member interior and then heating to melt the slip material and then cooling. The covering layer may be formed by the same steps.

  • Patent number: 5046519
Abstract: The method and apparatus is directed to monitoring a fluid conduit system for leaks, particularly a leakage flow of less than 25 liters per hour. After closing a main valve that fluidly connects a fluid source to the conduit system, the time is measured for the pressure in the conduit system to drop to a predetermined first value. Upon reaching the first value a shunt valve is opened and the time is measured for the pressure to rise to a second predetermined value. The leakage flow is calculated from the two measured times and the two pressures together with known constants for the control system. In place of providing the shunt valve the main valve may be partially opened. Controls for the valves are provided together with evaluating apparatus for determining the leakage volume.
