  • Patent number: 4727691
Abstract: An apparatus for pivoting a boom arm in a horizontal plane and for locking the boom arm in a fixed position on one side or another of a moving vehicle. The apparatus comprises a rocker arm with a locking mechanism at each end to engage and lock the boom arm in position in its fully rotated position at either side of the vehicle. The rocker arm is operatively connected to a hydraulic cylinder to pivot the rocker arm in a vertical plane to disengage the locking mechanism from the boom arm. A hydraulic motor has a rotating shaft connected to the boom arm to effect rotation of the boom arm from one side of the vehicle to the other.

  • Patent number: 4719910
Abstract: A high frequency oscillating ventilator. A flow of gas is conducted from a gas source to a high frequency oscillator. The high frequency oscillator comprises a housing including a magnet and having a diaphragmatically sealed piston mounted therein, an inlet connecting the space within the housing on the first side of the diaphragm to the gas conducting means, and a coil mounted to the first side of the diaphragm. Circuitry is provided which is operable to reverse the polarity of the flow of the current in the coil, thereby causing the diaphragm to move back and forth within the housing. A tube connecting the space on the second side of the diaphragm to the gas source and the patient's airway is provided. Also disclosed is a method of ventilating a patient with the high frequency oscillating ventilator, and a double lumen endotracheal tube for use in connection therewith.

  • Patent number: 4710407
Abstract: Method and composition for preserving fibrous materials. A urethane and thinning agent are mixed, and a fibrous material is contacted with the mixture and dried. An anti-oxidant, thinning agent or drier may optionally be mixed with the urethane and thinning agent. Extenders, plasticizers and ultraviolet light absorbers may also be used to advantage in some applications. The method and composition have particular application for use as a preservative for fishing and shrimping nets, uralkyd resins being the preferred urethane for this use.

  • Patent number: 4709486
Abstract: A method of determining the orientation of a surveying instrument in a borehole from measurements of the earth's gravitational and magnetic fields wherein the azimuth angle is calculated directly without correcting an apparent azimuth. Those measurements are used to calculate the borehole axial magnetic component at each orientation of the surveying instrument in the borehole, and the borehole axial magnetic component is used, along with those measurements, to directly calculate the proper azimuth angle. In a preferred embodiment, measurements are taken at a plurality of orientations in the borehole and the borehole axial magnetic component is calculated in simultaneous equations and then compared to insure the accuracy of the azimuth computation at each orientation. The orientations are preferably non-colinear.

  • Patent number: 4695482
Abstract: Method and apparatus for applying a flow of insulating material such as silicone to predetermined locations on printed circuit boards to avoid damaging the components on the circuit boards, such as solenoids and buzzers, whose functions will be impaired by the application of such material thereto. The apparatus is comprised of a pump which delivers a flow of insulating material to a manifold, the manifold having a plurality of lengths of flexible tubing attached thereto which serve as nozzles for dispensing the flow of insulating material. A printed circuit board is mounted on a conveyor and the conveyor is advanced until the printed circuit board is under the manifold, at which time the manifold is lowered to place the nozzles in close proximity to the printed circuit board so that the flow of insulating material will be directed to predetermined locations on the printed circuit board. The flexible nozzles are selectively positioned to direct the flow to those predetermined locations.

  • Patent number: 4675085
Abstract: Apparatus and method for recovering metal from a metal-containing solution. The apparatus is comprised of a case containing an anode and a cathode in fixed, spaced relationship relative to each other, and a power supply operable to apply a voltage across the anode and cathode. The increase in voltage between said anode and cathode is continually monitored and compared to a reference voltage until the increase exceeds the reference voltage, at which point a solenoid valve is energized to open a drain and drain the metal-containing solution from the case. A pump is provided to constantly circulate the metal-containing solution from top to bottom in the case while the voltage is applied between the anode and cathode to mix the solution, facilitating the plating of the metal. Also provided is a hollow, spiral anode, the solution being circulated through the hollow anode and out through the walls of the anode toward the cathode.

  • Patent number: 4673060
Abstract: A foldable scaffold which can be erected to the side of a scaffold anchor having a horizontal member pivotally mounted at one end to the scaffold anchor and a support member pivotally mounted at one end to the horizontal member and the other end releasably mounted on the support anchor. A pin is provided for selectively holding the horizontal member in a first horizontal position and for releasing the horizontal member from that first horizontal position to allow the horizontal member and the support member to pivot to a second position in which the horizontal and support members are closely approximated with the scaffold anchor. If, for instance, the scaffold anchor is a gangform, the disassembly, storage, transport and re-assembly of the gangform is greatly facilitated by the fact that the scaffold is folded and re-erected by merely inserting two pins into the horizontal member and support member.
