  • Patent number: 4344318
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting undesirable combustion characteristics in spark-ignited internal combustion engines. A sensor and band-pass filter tuned to the frequency of the knock vibration are provided with an output of the band-pass filter being compared with a reference value. The result of the comparison is correlated with undesirable combustion characteristics to be recognized. A rectifier is provided for solid borne sound signals received by the sensor with the signals passing through the band-pass filter. The signal is rectified in the rectifier to a knock signal and a series circuit composed of a band-stop filter tuned to the frequency of the knock vibration, an r.m.s. rectifier, and an amplifier is provided by means of which the sound signal received by the sensor is converted into a reference signal. A comparator is provided when the reference signal and the knock signals are compared and an output signal is generated if the knock signal exceeds the reference signal.

  • Patent number: 4345190
Abstract: A thyristor chopper whose gate signal is controlled by a magnetic phase shifter is connected between a battery and a series motor of an electric vehicle and is short-circuited by a bypass contactor as soon as the duty factor of the chopper attains 100%. In the short-circuited condition of the chopper, the magnetic phase shifter remains idle and does not participate in the control operation although the instruction current and the actual motor current are kept applied to its control windings. Therefore, the level of the output from the magnetic phase shifter is indicative of the value of the actual motor current when the instruction current value is fixed, so that the actual motor current value can be detected by detecting the output level from the magnetic phase shifter.

  • Patent number: 4344521
Abstract: Apparatus for conveying rod-like articles, especially cigarettes, includes parallel conveyors for streams of articles and two transfer conveyors which together re-orientate articles in one stream for combination with articles in the other stream. The transfer conveyors each convey articles on a curved path having a substantially vertical axis and include guide means for elevating the outer ends of the articles on the path. In another arrangement parallel opposed conveyors deliver articles to a downwardly-extending junction provided with retractable conveyor bands which may initially extend across the junction to aid filling. The stream on one of the opposed conveyors may be delivered from a further parallel conveyor by a rotary disc transfer conveyor which turns articles through 180 degrees for delivery to the one conveyor. The apparatus is particularly useful for tip-turning of cigarettes at the exit on a filter cigarette assembling machine.

  • Patent number: 4344136
Abstract: An on board vehicular data processing system samples vehicular operating parameters such as fuel level, distance travel, etc. The system calculates values of other parameters such as range and travel time. Under control of the position of the ignition key, which assumes positions representative of modes of operation, OFF, PARK, TRIP, START, the system displays indications of a limited number of sensed and calculated parameters, the particular indications being those which are most useful for the instant mode of operation represented by the position of the ignition key. After a trip, system parameters may be stored for future reference by a predetermined sequencing of the ignition key position. Such storage may be cleared by a second sequencing of the ignition key positions. Parameter reference values may be stored as maximum or minimum and present values for a parameter may be compared with the maximum or minimum and an alarm indication given, acoustical or optical.

  • Patent number: 4343599
Abstract: A scroll-type compressor constituted by a stationary scroll and a revolving scroll, and an electric motor for causing a revolving motion of the revolving scroll are disposed in a closed container. The scroll-type compressor has openings which are adapted to permit fluid compression pockets between two scrolls to be communicated with the space inside the closed container when the pressure in the pockets have been increased to a predetermined pressure intermediate between the suction and discharge pressures, so that the pressure in the closed container may be maintained at the same level as the above-mentioned predetermined pressure. The bottom part of the closed container constitutes an oil well where the lubricating oil is stored. This oil well is connected to the suction side of the compressor through an oil feed passage constituted by a capillary tube, so that the oil is fed to the compressor due to the pressure difference between the space inside the closed container and the inlet side of the compressor.
