  • Patent number: 6193172
Abstract: In a spray nozzle (10), a carrier (12) defines a spray aperture (20), a groove (30) surrounding the spray aperture for receiving an o-ring (32), a first locating bore (26) for slidably receiving an orifice plate (14) seated against the o-ring (32) and for aligning the orifice plate with the spray aperture, and a second locating bore (28) for slidably receiving a swirl unit and aligning the swirl unit (16) with the orifice plate and spray aperture. The swirl unit (16) defines on its peripheral surface a recessed flat (58) forming a fluid passageway between the swirl unit and carrier. The swirl unit (16) includes a swirl chamber (60) defined by a curvilinear surface (62) formed within the swirl unit, and an inlet port (64) formed in fluid communication between the swirl chamber and fluid passageway. The nozzle body (18) is threadedly received within the carrier (12) behind the swirl unit (16) to axially press the swirl unit, and in turn press the orifice plate (14) against the adjacent surface of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 6188187
Abstract: A control circuit for regulating the rotational speed of a DC brushless motor includes an electrical conduction switch having an input, an output and a control terminal for passing a motor supply signal to a DC brushless motor. A voltage averaging circuit generates an averaged signal indicative of the average voltage level being supplied to the motor. The averaging circuit informs an error amplifier to modulate the motor supply signal to compensate for changes in the voltage level of the motor supply signal in order to maintain the rotational speed of the motor at a generally constant rpm. The control circuit takes advantage of the motor windings and rotor mass as a filter circuit to smooth changes in current drawn by the motor, and to further maintain the rotational speed of the motor.

  • Patent number: 6182841
Abstract: A display system for lamp shades includes a lower portion and an upper portion. The lower portion has opposed top and bottom surfaces. Struts depend from the bottom surface of the lower portion to secure the lower portion to a supporting structure. A plurality of upstanding posts extend from the top surface of the lower portion to support nested lamp shades in a manner suitable for display. An axial mast extends from the central axis of the top surface of the lower portion. The upper portion has opposed top and bottom surfaces. A pole depends from the bottom surface of the upper portion to cooperate with the axial mast of the lower portion so as to facilitate rotation of the upper portion relative to the lower portion. A plurality of upstanding posts extend from the upper surface of the upper portion to support nested lamp shades in a manner suitable for display.

  • Patent number: 6182974
Abstract: Compact stuffing box packing assemblies of the present application include high density metal inserted braided end rings of graphite which have each been die formed to have angled facing surfaces and a plurality of center Preform rings is disclosed In one embodiment, three low density graphite Preform rings having angled facing surfaces are contained between the high density braided end rings. The facing surfaces of the Preform rings extend at a different angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the packing assembly than do the facing surfaces of the braided end rings. The braided end rings provide a support function for the Preform rings as well as a stem wiping function. In another embodiment, additional Preform support rings made of the same material as the end rings are positioned between the low density Preform rings.

  • Patent number: 6176162
Abstract: A screwdriver is disclosed, comprising a removable depth stop which selectably either, when equipped with the depth stop, allows noiseless shutoff or, with the depth stop removed, allows torque-dependent shutoff, without any chattering occurring when the machine continues to run. To this end, an adjustable torque-dependent release clutch is combined with an entrainment clutch of known type, which is additionally preceded by a disconnect clutch, a locking means being provided in order to hold a throwout ring, which forms one of the two elements of the disconnect clutch, in a predetermined position under load. In this way, noiseless operation is ensured after release, both when working with the depth stop and in the case of torque-dependent shutoff, with the depth stop removed.

  • Patent number: 6173792
Abstract: A power-driven screwdriver with a torque-dependent release clutch having two clutch halves is disclosed. The screwdriver comprises additional entrainment elements provided on the clutch halves for bridging the release clutch. To this end, a motor-driven drive gear is mounted to rotate freely on a tool drive shaft and is secured against axial displacement on the housing side while a cam ring can be adjusted axially, together with the tool drive shaft, via an adjusting device. The clutch elements are formed on the respectively facing sides of the drive gear and the cam ring, and the entrainment element are likewise formed, as separate elements, on the respectively facing sides of the drive gear and the cam ring. As a result of the adjusting device axial displacement of the tool drive shaft results either in a rigid through drive, where the release clutch is nonfunctional, or in the torque-dependent release of the release clutch, where the entrainment elements are nonfunctional.

  • Patent number: 6168722
Abstract: A method for retrieving excess pharmaceutical process fluid from the hold-up volume of a primary fluid filtration device. The hold-up volume is the volume of excess process fluid which accumulates in the bottom of the filter housing below the outlet opening thereof. Because it is considered valuable, the excess pharmaceutical process fluid is retrieved from the lower housing (22) via a drainage port (23) formed therein below the level of the outlet. The excess process fluid is then filtered in a supplemental filtration device (100) that is connected to the drainage port. The supplemental filtration device has a smaller volumetric capacity than the capacity of the primary fluid filtration device.

  • Patent number: 6164225
Abstract: Since a solenoid device generates the maximum drawing force at the final position of the retracting stroke of a plunger when it retracts into the solenoid device, the drawing force becomes so large at a position close to a pressing end position of a pressing member that energy is consumed than necessity, and the solenoid device is made large-sized. Accordingly, an arch clamp foot lifting apparatus of the present invention solved this problem by connecting a wedge-shaped block member to a plunger of the solenoid device and retaining an upper portion of the pressing member on a cam surface of a block member through a driven portion.

  • Patent number: 6161659
Abstract: An electromagnetic brake includes an improved friction disk that has at least one friction surface formed entirely from a rubber material such as a styrene butadiene rubber material. The rubber material 1) has a high coefficient of friction, 2) conforms to the shape of the mating braking surfaces, 3) is dimensionally stable so as not to unnecessarily widen the air gap of the brake when the brake is applied, and 4) exhibits acceptable wear characteristics. The rubber material also preferably does not exhibit a sharp reduction in coefficient of static friction when it is heated, e.g., due to friction from its mating surfaces and/or due to heat transfer from the electric motor or other braked element. The resultant brake is relatively light-weight, compact, and inexpensive. It is particularly well-suited for use as a static, park-and-hold brake for an electric motor or the like.
