Abstract: An insulated concentric tubing well element having an inner tubing and an outer tubing with a substantially solid insulating material in the annulus between the inner and outer tubing. A bonding material fills the voids in the annulus and the surface of the solid insulating material. The bonding material prevents movement within the annulus and seals the annulus. Calcium silicate is disclosed as a suitable material for the solid insulation and sodium silicate is disclosed as the bonding material. A method is disclosed for producing the complete well element.
Abstract: A method for producing air-blown industrial asphalt using asphalt, ethylene/vinyl-acetate copolymer and an air-blowing catalyst is disclosed. The EVA copolymer is present in a weight percent of from 1 weight percent to 10 weight percent. Also disclosed is the asphalt composition resulting from the air-blowing method.
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of substituted carboxylic acids and their derivatives in which the synthesis reaction is carried out at least partially thermally in the presence of a furan-type compound. The furan-type compound substantially increases yields and reduces the formation of undesirable resinous by-products.
Abstract: A method of removing hydrogen sulfide contaminants from a gas stream. The gas stream is contacted with dimethyl sulfoxide promoted with the salt of an organic acid, reducing H.sub.2 S to sulfur.
Abstract: A method for combined cycle electrical power generation is disclosed wherein electrical power is generated by an electrical generator driven by a gas turbine, which is in turn driven by two gaseous products of a coal gasification process. The first gaseous product is produced with hot char by the reduction of a coal/water slurry by stream in a gasifier. The second gaseous product is produced by oxidation of the hot char in a combustor.
Abstract: A permanent thermal packer is disclosed for sealing the annulus between an injection tubing string and a well casing. The packer is thermal cement and is placed from within the injection tubing string to seal a substantial portion of the annulus above the injection zone. The packer provides a means for sealing the annulus above the injection zone thus permitting insulating material to be placed in the annulus above the packer with the expectation that it will not be damaged by well bore fluids.
Abstract: A hydrocarbon conversion process is disclosed wherein a hydrocarbon feed is contacted with a dehydrocyclization catalyst containing a large-pore zeolite and a Group VIII metal, then the resulting reformate is upgraded using an intermediate pore size zeolite.
Abstract: The method of making a catalyst comprising alumina with GP VI and VIII components wherein the method comprises peptizing an alumina powder with an aqueous acid solution of a group VIII metal salt, neutralizing the peptized alumina/group VIII metal with an aqueous solution of a nitrogen-containing base with a dissolved group VI metal salt therein, extruding, drying, and calcining the catalytic particles.
Abstract: A coal gasification process is disclosed wherein two portions of heat transfer material are introduced into the reaction vessel at different locations and different temperatures. Steam is passed upwardly through the vessel to react with the carbonaceous material to form a hot char and a gaseous product, wherein the heat necessary for the coal gasification reaction is supplied by both the first portion of heat transfer material and the second portion of heat transfer material. Then the hot char and gaseous product are cooled by contact with the first portion of heat transfer material.
Abstract: 1-Alkyl derivatives of 3-aryloxy-4-(2-carbalkoxy)-phenyl-azet-2-ones of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is methyl or ethyl; R.sub.2 is lower alkyl; and X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 are independently hydrogen or halogen, are effective as plant growth regulators.

Abstract: A coupling unit is provided for joining flanged pipe ends. The ends are held in a pair of semicircular clamp members having inclined recesses and wedge elements for separating the flanges apart and bringing them into contact with the clamp.
Abstract: A method of recovering metal values from an aqueous stream. The metal valves are preferably obtained from leaching spent hydroprocessing catalysts, and include cobalt, nickel, molybdenum and vanadium. The metal values are extracted, isolated, and purified by liquid extraction techniques.
Abstract: A process for air blowing asphalt in the presence of organic sulfonic acids and an asphalt composition comprising a major amount of asphalt and a minor but effective amount of organic sulfonic acid.
Abstract: Heat transfer particles of fluidizable size are selected for recycling to the pyrolysis zone to broaden usable size range of oil shale feed. These recycle particles should all be of a fluidizable size and when mixed with the raw oil shale the total amount of fluidizable particles should comprise not less than about 60 weight percent of the particles in the mixture. This process is especially useful when the heat transfer material is recycled oil shale particles. The present invention is particularly advantageous when the oil shale is pyrolyzed in a vertical retorting vessel containing a fluidized bed above a packed bed of particles.
Abstract: Additives for lubricating oils for internal combustion engines which contribute dispersancy and detergency to the lubricating oils are disclosed. The additives are hydrocarbylpoly(oxyalkylene) polyamine ethanes comprising a hydrocarbyl-terminated poly(oxyalkylene) chain of 2-5 carbon oxyalkylene units bonded to an ethane or substituted ethane chain in turn bonded to a nitrogen atom of a polyamine having from 2 to 12 amine nitrogens and from 2 to 40 carbon atoms with a carbon:nitrogen ratio between 1:1 and 10:1.
Abstract: Novel glycolate diesters of dithiophosphoric acid and salts of such esters suitable as additives in oil compositions are disclosed. Oil compositions containing the salts of such esters show improved extreme pressure/anti-wear and antioxidant properties.
