  • Patent number: 6683557
Abstract: A radar detection process includes computing a derivative of an FFT output signal to detect an object within a specified detection zone. In one embodiment, a zero crossing in the second derivative of the FFT output signal indicates the presence of an object. The range of the object is determined as a function of the frequency at which the zero crossing occurs. Also described is a detection table containing indicators of the presence or absence of an object within a respective radar beam and processing cycle. At least two such indicators are combined in order to detect the presence of an object within the detection zone and with changing range gates in each of the antenna beams the coverage of the detection zone can be varied.

  • Patent number: 6675772
Abstract: A method and system for controlling an internal combustion engine system upon loss of a crankshaft position sensor signal produced by such system is provided. The method includes providing a control module having a central processing unit and a time processor unit associated with such central processing unit. The time processor unit has programmed into is a first code for operating the engine system in the presence of a proper crankshaft position sensor signal. The control module stores a second code for loading into the time processor unit to operate the engine system with the time processor unit upon detection of an improper crankshaft position sensor signal. Initially, the engine system is operated with the time processor unit executing the first code. The method monitors the crankshaft position signal for a fault. Upon detection of the fault, the method loads the second code into the time processor unit and operates the engine system with the time processor unit executing the second code.

  • Patent number: 6671195
Abstract: An alternator system having an alternating current voltage source includes a rectifier coupled to the voltage source, a sensor coupled to the voltage source and an engine and a control circuit coupled to the voltage source, the rectifier and the sensor. The control circuit provides control signals to the rectifier and the voltage source. The alternator system further includes a fault protection controller coupled to an output of the alternator system and coupled to the control circuit. The rectifier operates such that the alternator system provides a load match which results in output power levels which are relatively high compared with output power levels of conventional alternator systems and the fault protection controller operates under fault conditions (e.g. load dump), and overrides the other controllers in the alternator system based on output voltage when a load dump occurs.

  • Patent number: 6666200
Abstract: A method for air/fuel operation of an engine. The method includes providing a model of the engine. The model represents a relationship between: (1) a signal model LAMBSE, representative of estimated air/fuel ratio of the engine relative to a stoichiometric air/fuel ratio for the engine; and, (2) fuel injected into the cylinder of the engine. Exhaust gas oxygen emission from the engine is measured during operation of such engine. Actual LAMBSE produced by such engine during operation of such engine is produced as a function of such measured oxygen. The actual LAMBSE is compared with the model LAMBSE provided by the model in response to fuel injected into the engine to produce a model error signal. The fuel injected into the engine is adjusted in accordance with the error signal.
