  • Patent number: 4526322
Abstract: A burner nozzle assembly is disclosed for atomizing liquid fuel at lower emission velocities, and comprises an axially extended nozzle body and a nozzle cap mounted forwardly thereon, the nozzle cap and nozzle body cooperating to define a flow reversing fluid path for the liquid fuel, to cause the fuel to move essentially countercurrent to its initial direction of flow, and to the flow of an auxiliary fluid disposed in an outer coaxial conduit. The reversal of flow of the liquid fuel, promotes a collision between it and the auxiliary fluid, to facilitate thorough atomization, without the need for increase in emission velocities, that results in higher fuel consumption and reduced per capita fuel utilization and heat radiation. The nozzle is adapted to operate in a variety of burner assemblies, including conventional burner guns, and is of simple construction.

  • Patent number: 4518002
Abstract: A locking assembly is disclosed which is suitable for releasably locking two articulated pivoting members in a fixed position with respect to each other. The locking assembly comprises a spring biased reciprocating latch, a plunger attached to the latch, and a catch plate adapted to rotate into locking engagement therewith. The plunger and latch are preferably integral with each other, so that the latch contains a minimum number of moving parts. The latch is designed so that simple palm pressure will cause it to disengage from the catch plate, to permit the pivoting members to move with respect to each other. The present locking assembly is of simple design and inexpensive manufacture, and is durable in use. The locking assembly is particularly applicable for use in invalid appliances such as collapsible walkers, where the users have limited manual dexterity.

  • Patent number: 4515000
Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing consumable insert rings for use in welding of conduit and the like, which utilizes a drawing operation. Particularly, a ring having a multiple gauge configuration is drawn by a process whereby the first drawing pass achieves 80 to 90% preparation of the final cross-sectional configuration. The drawing operation may be conducted at speeds of about 1' per minute, and final dimensions and shape of the inserts may be achieved by as few as two drawing passes. Surface uniformity is achieved and work hardening of the insert during formation is minimal. Starting stock utilized in the present method may be of lesser diameter than that used in conventional processes.

  • Patent number: 4502920
Abstract: An improved retort apparatus for recovering oil from crushed oil shale moved by gravity through a passageway of an elongated housing includes a control assembly connected adjacent the outlet end of the housing to control the rate of movement of the crushed oil shale through the passageway. A plurality of heat exchangers are located in the housing for transferring heat in sequence to or from the crushed oil shale. The heat exchangers are spaced to define a drying zone, a preheating zone, a hydrocarbon recovery zone, and a waste heat recovery zone. A pump recirculating circuit is provided for passing waste heat recovered from the waste heat recovery zone to the preheating zone. An auxiliary heating assembly connected to the heat exchangers in the hydrocarbon recovery zone delivers sufficient heat to raise the temperature of the crushed oil shale moving through the hydrocarbon recovery zone to the critical temperature for separating hydrocarbons in vapor form therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4494407
Abstract: A depthometer useful for underwater diving is constructed with a cup-shaped casing, and a rotatable transparent cover that is sealably snap-mounted to the casing and closes the front of the casing. The transparent cover houses an indicating pointer that rotates about an axis of the casing as a function of external pressure, and moves along the scale of a stationary dial. The indicating pointer cooperates with a maximum-indicating pointer by way of a dragging member that communicates with both pointers. The dragging member is idly supported by an axially bored member which extends through the cover. The axially bored member cooperates with an adjustable friction clutch and thereby also serves to support the maximum-indicating pointer. The construction of the present depthometer permits the cover to be snap-mounted to the casing without adversely affecting the water-tightness of the instrument.

  • Patent number: 4487530
Abstract: A method and apparatus for shoring a trench. The trench shoring apparatus carries a plurality of sheet members movable vertically relative to said apparatus by driving means forming part of the apparatus which carries pre-formed horizontal waling frame carried by and movable relative to the apparatus. The horizontal waling frame is positionable between the sheet members after the sheet members have been driven by said driving means, so that an upward or downward pressure applied to said waling frame is converted, through the intermediary of said waling frame, into a lateral pressure onto the trench sides, so that the sheet members may be caused to move downwardly or upwardly by increasing the resistance to upward or downward movement of the apparatus. Similarly, a downward pressure applied to means supporting said waling frame, is converted into a lateral pressure, through the intermediary of said waling frame, so as to cause upward movement of said apparatus.
