  • Patent number: 4362687
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for casting or molding cages for rolling elements, two slides are provided for each pocket. The slides have an engaging, inclined surface, and are shaped to permit one of the slides to be removed by initially sliding it along the inclined surface. The other slide may thereby be moved laterally in the formed pocket, and withdrawn from the pocket. Facing slides of adjacent pockets may be joined together, with limited movement possible therein, to form a complete ring serving as a mold member.

  • Patent number: 4362058
Abstract: An ultrasonic probe for propagating an ultrasonic surface wave which is constrained along the probe with the evanescent pressure field penetrating the subject in a direction orthogonal to the axis of the probe. The ultrasonic probe may then be placed about a plurality of orientations, passing the evanescent pressure field through the subject along the plurality of orientations and detecting the loss of energy in each successive pressure field propagation. A data processing system for processing and correlating each successive detected energy loss in each propagation direction can produce a resultant computed tomographic image of a defined plane through the subject.

  • Patent number: 4357056
Abstract: The arrangement according to the invention provides a sealing ring fastened to the end ring in a manner secure against removal by pulling or twisting. This sealing ring is provided with thickened extended arms and is fastened by snapping in the thickened arm sections behind an internal radial shoulder through openings in the flange of the end ring. The opening in the flange of the end ring may be economically manufactured, as by means of axial forms or cores, and without the need for additional radial cores, within the casting mold.

  • Patent number: 4352419
Abstract: A self centering clutch thrust bearing has a damping ring between one bearing ring and the sliding sleeve of a housing. The damping ring has resilient projections positioned to engage recesses in the housing with play, to damp small turning motions, and larger projections positioned to engage other recesses in the housing with play, to damp larger turning forces. The resilient projections are mounted to be operative in damping the forces prior to the larger projections. This invention relates to self centering clutch thrust bearings, and more in particular to the provision of damping means in such bearings.

  • Patent number: 4349987
Abstract: A robot doll with an internal drive unit for automatically causing the doll in prone face-down position to bend at the waist until reaching a semi-erect position, then to straighten-up to a standing position, and then to wobble from side-to-side, or to simulate walking, and/or to fall down. A first switch actuates the doll to move from prone position to standing. A reversing switch, actuated as the doll stands, reverses the drive motor to complete standing action. A rod is reciprocated in and out of at least one foot to simulate walking actions and to cause the doll to tip. An interior frame carrying an electric motor and gears is loosely mounted and a cam mounted thereon causes the frame, hence the doll, to wobble while in the standing position. The doll eventually falls from standing position and impacts its pivoted arms on the support surface. This opens a reversing switch and starts the series of moves over again.

  • Patent number: 4349423
Abstract: The process is principally based upon an electrochemical technique due to which the binding material for tungsten and cobalt is dissolved and from the solution under certain conditions cobalt or its composition is regained. From the undissolved material after electrolysis tungsten is disposed. By this improved method a very fast decomposition of the hard metal is obtained. Tungsten carbide scrap--a waste material from hard metal tools--can be a decomposed preferably by electrolysis as shown in FIGURE attached.

  • Patent number: 4339799
Abstract: A method and apparatus for examining relative movement of two masses of different radiation attenuation characteristics, separated by a boundary and moving relative to one another over a repetitive motion cycle. The masses are examined from a plurality of successive angles about a common center of rotation. The object is scanned over each motion cycle from each of these angles to derive a plurality of attenuation coefficients encompassing the entire motion cycle. A plurality of differential points is calculated between adjacent scans of a single motion cycle, and a single composite image of all of these differential points is reconstructed for each individual time period of each motion cycle for display.

  • Patent number: 4333072
Abstract: A closed coupled identification system for verifying the identity of an animal, object or other thing, has a probe including a circuit adapted to be connected to a source of alternating current and a separate, preferably miniature, circuit adapted to be implanted within or attached to the animal, object or thing. The probe circuit is held adjacent the implanted circuit for mutually inductively coupling the circuits so that a load applied to the implanted circuit has an effect on the current in the probe circuit. A programmable load is included in the implanted circuit, along with means for sequentially connecting and disconnecting the load to and from the implanted circuit in response to alternating current cycles in the probe circuit, according to a predetermined code program. A signal is derived from the probe circuit having a waveform corresponding to the coded program in the implant circuit.

  • Patent number: 4328667
Abstract: A field-emission ion source in which, under the influence of an electric field, ions are released from a metal or metal alloy present in an enclosed space in the liquid state. The ions are emitted from this space through a very narrow slit. This slit may be straight or curved. The field-emission ion source can be used in an ion thruster apparatus comprising an emitter module, an electrode system, and a power supply unit. A plurality of emitter modules can be combined to form an ion thruster apparatus having a greater ion current output. Instead of a liquid metal as the propellant, a metal in the solid phase can be supplied to the emitter module, which metal is melted in the emitter module.
