Abstract: An economizer system for air conditioning uses a space thermostat to determine a demand for cooling and an outside air controller to determine whether cooling shall be mechanical or natural. A mixed air controller senses the temperature of the mixture of outside air and recirculated air and adjusts the relative proportions as desired by means of a controlled bidirectional damper, moving at a rate far less than the response time of the mixed air controller. This slow bidirectional damper movement in response to the mixed air control sensors causes the dampers to modulate in an inexpensive and reliable manner.

Abstract: In a rolling bearing for linear movement with respect to a shaft, the bearing has a sleeve, and axially extending guide rails on the inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve. Rolling elements are guided by the guide rails, and have concave spool-like central portions matched to the shaft, to provide linear contact therewith. The ends of the rolling elements are convexly curved to match the curvature of the inner surface of the sleeve, so that the inner surface of the sleeve forms a raceway for rolling elements under load. Grooves are provided in the lateral surfaces of the guide rails for guiding balls disposed between the ends of adjacent rolling elements. End caps on the bearing have turn-around guides for directing rolling elements between the inner raceways and the raceways for unloaded rolling elements along the outer surfaces of the sleeve.

Abstract: A linear ball bearing having an outer shell and a cage which define between them a plurality of endless axial raceways filled with balls, has at each end an end ring having a shoulder extending radially outward for axially fixing the bearing in a housing bore. The end ring may be positioned and secured after the bearing shell and balls are situated in the housing. Alternatively, the shoulder may be formed of resilient tongues which are deflectable radially inwardly during insertion of the bearing shell into the housing bore, and which subsequently spring radially outwardly to engage the housing wall and secure the bearing in place.

Abstract: A compact microfiche reader. Light from a microfiche or cassette microfilm is projected and undergoes several reflections prior to striking a viewing screen. One of the reflecting surfaces is defined by a prism sheet having a multiplicity of prisms. Light is both reflected by and passes through the prism sheet, the prism sheet thus defining a dual-function optical surface. This makes possible a more compact viewer. Several embodiments employ foldable reflecting surfaces and a foldable viewing screen to further reduce the size of the reader.
Abstract: A device for producing an array of point sources of light. A number of parallel optical fibers or strips are positioned on a substrate. One end of the fibers or strips is illuminated by a light source. Light passing through and along each fiber or strip is reflected at spaced longitudinal reflecting faces integral with the fiber or strip. The device exhibits particular utility in illuminating microimages carried by a fiche.
Abstract: An indexing construction for microfiche elements of the type wherein the microfiche is provided with integral lens elements to define a lensfiche. The improvement comprises altering surface(s) of the microfiche to thereby define a plurality of indexing nodules. These nodules cooperate with complementary nodules on either a viewing screen or a hardness member. By virtue of this construction both alignments of the lensfiche and indexing thereof relative to a viewing screen are facilitated.
Abstract: The shaft of a spinning rotor is journaled for rotation on pairs of rollers, and is urged against the rollers by a drive belt. The end of the shaft away from the rotor has a taper fitted into a corresponding taper of the central hole of a rolling bearing. The shaft may be held in the bearing by a permanent magnet spaced from the end of the shaft, or by an O-ring engaging grooves in extended portions of this shaft and bearing inner ring.
Abstract: Grinding machine adapted for changing of grinding wheels on a grinding spindle bolt of the kind in which the grinding wheel is fixed to the grinding spindle by introducing the spindle bolt in a bushing provided in a centrally located bore in the grinding wheel, and is removed from the spindle bolt by being axially pulled off said spindle bolt, characterized by that the envelope surface of the spindle bolt is provided with at least one ridge, which is arranged in the form of a helix with a great pitch.
Abstract: A rolling bearing construction wherein a guide rim is secured to a ring incorporating the race for the guide rim by the interposition of a bonding film of a hardening, cross-linking resin.
Abstract: A device for forming acoustical images comprises an ultrasonic source, a linear array of first receiving transducers for receiving the echoes from a target illuminated by a source. The signals from the linear array of first receiving transducers are processed by a system comprising an oscillator at a frequency higher than that of the source, and, for each said receiving transducers, a mixer, a filter for separating the components of the beating frequency and a transmitting transducer.

Abstract: We describe a method and apparatus for handling information coded in the form of groups of pulses in sequential time slots forming blocks, each block having the same number of time slots. In this pulse transmission system an analog signal is converted to the above pulse code for transmission, and reconverted to analog form by an integration process. The process and apparatus are also adapted to arithmetic operations. An averaging device, employed in both transmission and arithmetic systems, includes a shift register provided with means for producing a current corresponding to the number of stages of the shift register in a given state.
Abstract: A plastic cage for a rolling bearing is formed of a comb part having rivet pins formed unitarily therewith. Recesses are provided in the cage side rings, aligned with the bridges, in order to inhibit deformation of the comb structure. The rivets are formed in the ends of the bridges, and are ultrasonically riveted in corresponding holes in the cage cover.

Abstract: A combined microfiche camera and projection apparatus. The apparatus includes an objective lens for forming a real image on the input end of a coherent bundle of light fibers (internally reflecting glass fibers). The output end of the bundle is dispersed into a plurality of spaced-apart coherent fiber sub-bundles. The ends of the latter terminate contiguous to the emulsion of a microfiche. A projection screen is spaced from the microfiche. The device functions both to record and to read out.
Abstract: A projection lens plate for a microfiche and method of its manufacture. A base or substrate having greater dimensional stability against creepage, humidity, and thermal cycling than the optic material carries a plurality of openings for receiving extruded optic material, the optic material forming lenses after hardening. Extrusion passages in a die head carry the optic material to the substrate openings. The die head is provided with accurately spaced lens-forming cavities onto which the optic material flows to thereby form lenses. By this process and apparatus the lenses are very accurately located relative to each other, while the openings in the substrate need not be accurately located relative to each other. The substrate openings are larger than the diameter of the lenses. Further, by fashioning the substrate of a dimensionally stabler material than the lens material, accurate registry of the lenses vis a vis each other is maintained.
Abstract: A ring for locking and spacing two components situated in a cylindrical bore, characterized in that said ring has a closed uninterrupted angular shape and comprises a weakened part which allows the adjacent end parts to be pressed to each other without disengaging said end parts from said weakened part.
