  • Patent number: 5055818
Abstract: The blown fuse indicator is mounted to one of the opposed ferrules of a fuse and ejects a streamer therefrom in response to a blown or open fuse condition. The streamer is a strip of vinyl which is secured at one end to a plunger held within a housing mounted on one of the ferrules, and at its other end to a container which is ejected from the housing by the plunger in response to a fuse opening whereby the streamer unfurls to indicate the fuse is blown and open.

  • Patent number: 5055034
Abstract: This invention relates to a windproof cigarette lighter with double flames, producing not only windproof type, but also a visible flame. It comprises: a housing, a gas reservoir, a gas charging valve, a gas discharging valve with discharging amount adjustable and valve opening member. A nozzle of the gas discharging valve is connected to the inlet of a burner through a first conduit. A piezoelectric igniting device is activated upon the opening of the gas discharging valve. The burner consists of a jet pump, a combustion chamber and a flame stabilizer which is composed of a central hub and at least a channel between the central hub and the wall of the combustion chamber. An igniting element is arranged on the downstream portion of the combustion chamber. A second conduit is connected to a nozzle which is located on the top center of the central hub and has its opening vertically upward.

  • Patent number: 5050680
Abstract: An enclosed protective chamber for a subsea wellhead assembly includes a main body installed on the sea floor. Subsea wellhead apparatus is mounted in the chamber on top of a well. A pressure-containing lid is mounted on and sealed with respect to the main body such that chamber pressure is isolated from the subsea hydrostatic head. An inflatable, elongated, flexible storage tank or dracon is attached to the chamber through a conduit having a pressure-balanced relief valve therewithin. The dracon is attached to the conduit through a quick disconnect coupling and closure valve which permit ready attachment, removal, or replacement of the dracon. Under normal operating conditions the dracon is deflated. The dracon is preferably anchored to the sea floor. When a leak in the subsea wellhead assembly occurs, excess chamber pressure permits surplus fluid to enter and fill the dracon.

  • Patent number: 5038985
Abstract: The adjustable tape measure clip includes a strip of spring steel folded over to form a primary spring with opposing leaves, the inner leaf being adapted for attachment to the case of the tape measure. The inner leaf includes a secondary spring for adjusting the spring force of the primary spring on the leaves of the clip. A mounting screw, which mounts the spring clip onto the case of the tape measure, also engages the secondary spring on the inner leaf to adjust the secondary spring force on the primary spring. As the screw is rotated, the secondary spring varies the primary spring force and thus adjusts the free clip width between the leaves to either increase or decrease the gripping pressure of the clip on the user's apparel.

  • Patent number: 5031696
Abstract: An improved casing hanger and seal assembly includes a split seal ring disposed between annular plates on a support shoulder in a wellhead. A plurality of floating pedestals are received within the seal ring. A slip and bowl assembly is mounted over the seal ring in the head, and when loaded by the casing weight provides the force to energize the seal ring to seal the casing and head. The floating pedestals provide stops to limit seal energization to a predetermined amount, and are movable with the seal ring to assist in distributing stress equally across the cross-section of the seal ring.

  • Patent number: 5030274
Abstract: An electric arc furnace includes a crucible having a metal shell for recovering precious metals from spent material. The shell includes a metal tap hole and a slag door positioned above and opposite the metal tap hole. A removable swinging roof is provided above the crucible together with a plurality of electodes for heating the spent material. Also, a cooling band circumscribes the crucible for cooling the metal shell. Conveyors are provided for distributing the spent material at a plurality of points located between the electrodes and the wall of the crucible. The crucible is tilted to allow the removal of the slag and metal.

  • Patent number: 5027466
Abstract: Disclosed is a pig receiver for capturing a pipeline pig as it is discharged or ejected from the pipeline. The receiver is readily attachable, detachable and portable. The receiver includes a webbed conduit made of flexible webbing. The webbed conduit includes a passageway having a diameter approximately equal to the diameter of the pipeline to which it is attached. The webbed conduit includes longitudinally extending webbings having loops formed in the webbing ends. The receiver is attached to the pipeline flange by a chain disposed through the webbing loops and is secured around the pipeline by a padlock or other fastener. The unattached ends of the longitudinal webbings are drawn together and secured by a closure, preferably a clevis which is disposed through the loops in the unattached ends of the longitudinal webbings.

  • Patent number: 5013187
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus suitable for example in enabling the installation of a casing hanger within a bore in an oil-drilling wellhead in a manner so that the installation and the sealing-in of the casing hanger is accomplished in a single operation. The invention thus comprises installing a component (2) within a bore (4) so as to be received therewithin in a fluid-type manner utilizing expandible seals (8) and a shoulder (36) within the bore (4) adapted to be contacted by a leading edge (32) of one of two concentrically arranged sleeve members (12, 14) which are driven downwardly within the bore towards the shoulder, the two sleeve members which encircle the component (2) being secured together by shearable links (25).

  • Patent number: 5000371
Abstract: A method for producing a metallic interface suitable for overlaying consists of exposing the area of an alloy combination to be overlayed to a temperature above its lower critical until an element reduced zone arises. This element reduced zone more easily accepts element diffusion that takes place during overlaying. Accordingly, an improved interface, one that is more ductile and less prone to cracking, is produced.

  • Patent number: 5000736
Abstract: A medicinal syringe including a tubular plunger from which air has been evacuated and a seal member releasably attached on the distal end of the plunger. Upon application of a predetermined longitudinal axial force to the seal member, the attachment between the seal member and the plunger will rupture, releasing the seal member for movement within the plunger. The seal member when released will be forced by the differential pressure between the vacuum and the ambient air into the interior of the tubular plunger. The plunger is slidably disposed in a tubular barrel. A needle is disposed in a hub releasably attached within the distal end of the barrel. Upon application of a predetermined longitudinal axial force to the hub, the attachment between the hub and the barrel will rupture, releasing the hub for movement within the barrel. The hub when released will be forced by the pressure differential, along with the distal plunger seal member, into the interior of the tubular plunger, carrying the needle with it.
