Abstract: A cross bow includes a main string, a support engaged with and supporting a bow, a triggering device for cocking and firing the bow, a loading string attached to the bow and a hook device attached to the support and operable for receiving the loading string. The bow may be half-cocked by engaging the loading string with the hook device, and thereafter fully cocked with the main string. Another embodiment of the cross bow includes a support with two barrels therethrough, and two bows mounted on the support for separately launching projectiles such as arrows, balls, air gun pellets, or bullets, through the barrels. A magazine may be provided for each barrel to supply projectiles.
Abstract: A fuel burning furnace includes a number of energy efficient features. The furnace includes a heat exchanger in which combustion air is preheated by hot discharge gases. Diverters are provided in the heat exchanger to continually urge hot combustion gases toward the interior portions of the heat exchanger to improve its heat transfer characteristics. The furnace incorporates a number of features to determine malfunction and indicate inefficient operation. A humidification control system for the humidification or dehumidification of circulated air also is provided. The furnace also includes a blower motor system which compensates for loss of tension in driving belts and makes correction for blower speed in response to temperature variations.
Abstract: A sailboard for sailing in water includes an elongated hull defining fore and aft and having a top and a bottom, and a panel integrally connected to the bottom of the hull near the aft end and extending beyond the aft end. The panel is relatively rigid at its distal end. An apparatus is connected to both the hull and the panel, and is operable for moving the distal end of the panel from a first position to a second position. The hull and the panel defining a relatively continuous flat surface for the first position and defining a relatively convex surface for the second position.
Abstract: The invention relates to a lacing system suitable for lacing a shoe having eyelets, comprising a stretchable lace adapted for being laced in the eyelets; and lace locking device connected to one end of the lace and comprising an elongated body operable for engaging the other one end of the lace so that the lace ends are substantially collinear with each other and the other lace end is releasably retained in the body through friction with the body when the shoe is engaged with a foot or disengaged from a foot.
Abstract: A kitchen appliance which enables automatic preparation of desserts or other food products according to instructions pre-programmed into the appliance. Programmed preparation steps can include any desired sequence of heating, cooling, and mixing of ingredients placed in a detachable container of the appliance. Accessory attachments can be provided to the appliance for automatically adding recipe ingredients to the container during automatic preparation. A dispensing pump may also be provided for dispensing a heated or frozen product from the container.
Abstract: Fundamental frequency and period detector processes and systems which determine the end of a cycle of an ac waveform by using the characteristic of the integral of a single cycle of an ac waveform that the value of the integral at the end of the cycle is the same as at the cycle start despite cycle noise, multiple zero crossings and other cycle obscuration. These processes and systems use the cycle integral to self-synchronize with each cycle of an ac waveform. Formation of the cycle integral of each processed cycle is a useful by-product of the frequency and period detection processes and systems.
Abstract: A condom designed for oral-genital sex includes, in one aspect, a device adapted to be worn in the mouth of the person practicing oral sex. The device includes a tubular member having one closed end and formed of thin, pliant, impervious material. Joined to the open end of the tubular member are two or three flanges extending generally radially outwardly and spaced closely together. The flanges are curved out of a plane transverse to the axis of the tubular member to define a channel adapted to receive the upper and lower lips of an average person. The device is gripped by placing the lips within the channel, and closing the jaws slightly to compress and retain the open end of the device. The tubular member may be formed to extend into the mouth of the wearer, for the purpose of performing fellatio. A penis may be inserted into the tubular member without making contact with the lips or mouth or tongue of the wearer.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing an insulated wrap intended for wrapping any desired item in order to maintain a given temperature, either hot or cold, for the desired item. The method basically consists of providing a die having a plurality of cavities each of which has evacuation means associated therewith, placing a flexible thermoformable film over the die and evacuating the cavities thereby to thermoform the film and create multiple pouches in the film material. The pouches are then filled with a eutectic chemical compound consisting of potassium chloride solution, and then overlying the pouch-filled film with an insulated sealing film. The insulated sealing film consists of a polyethylene film co-extruded to a layer of closed cell polyolefin foam. The sealing film acts as a thermo barrier. The wrap is completed by providing fastening means at opposed ends of the wrap in order to permit the wrap to be fastened about any desired item for temperature maintenance purposes.
Abstract: A hand-held power saw has a main housing and two guide housings telescopically interactive with the main housing and having facing open distal extremities. A motor and associated drive pulley are associated with the main housing. Paired idle and alignment rollers are disposed within the guide housings. An endless abrasive wire rope is centrally disposed within the main and guide housings in contact with the drive pulley and paired rollers. The region of the wire rope extending between the facing distal extremities of the guide housings is employed to cut a workpiece.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an accessory suitable for mounting onto a rod to support a piece of material, and more particularly to an accessory which can take the form of a curtain, drape or portiere.
Abstract: A process for the removal of acid gases which are reactive with ethylene oxide from a gas mixture containing carbon dioxide, comprises contacting the gas mixture with ethylene carbonate containing sufficient amount of ethylene oxide, whereby the ethylene oxide reacts chemically with the acid gases to produce reaction products which are more easily removable from the gas mixture.
Abstract: A process for the low temperature oxydehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene uses a calcined oxide catalyst containing Mo, V, Nb, Sb, and at least one metal from a given group of metals.

Abstract: By-product effluent streams from pyrolytic hydrocarbon cracking processes, containing monoolefins and diolefins, are treated to hydrogenate the olefins and to aromatize the aliphatics, with a catalyst essentially comprising a calcined TEA-silicate.
Abstract: A mesophase pitch derived fiber having a predetermined cross-sectional structure is produced by passing mesophase pitch being spun into a pitch fiber through a porous body positioned in the spinnerette channel of a spinnerette.
Abstract: By-product effluent streams from pyrolytic hydrocarbon cracking processes, containing monoolefins and diolefins, are treated to hydrogenate the olefins and to aromatize the aliphatics, with a catalyst essentially comprising divalent-copper-containing ZSM-5 type molecular sieve catalyst.
Abstract: A mesophase pitch having ellipsoidal molecules is produced by the polymerization reaction of an aromatic hydrocarbon containing at least two condensed rings in which the coupling polymerization constitutes at least 60% of the polymerization reactions.
Abstract: A magnetic resonance apparatus uses a first harmonic signal produced by magnetic field modulation as a correction signal and the second harmonic signal to provide a property of a sample.
