  • Patent number: 7842028
Abstract: An instrument guide device comprises an elongated guide shaft having proximal and distal ends and including an instrument lumen for receiving therethrough a manually operated instrument having an instrument shaft. A distal bendable member is disposed at the distal end of the guide shaft and a proximal bendable member is disposed at the proximal end of the guide shaft. Actuation means extends between the distal and proximal bendable members and provides a bending of the distal bendable member controlled from the proximal bendable member. The proximal bendable member is controlled from the manually operated instrument to cause a corresponding bending of said distal bendable member.

  • Patent number: 7802814
Abstract: A stabilizer pad construction is shown in which a pair of resilient laminated pad assemblies are mounted outboard on a weldment that is pivotally supported from a stabilizer arm of a vehicle. A latch device is also illustrated in two different embodiments that prevent self-flipping of the pad, particularly from the grouser side to the resilient pad side. The latch device uses either a capture recess or a capture tab for preventing rotation and includes a handle to permit the user to manually rotate the pad.

  • Patent number: 7708758
Abstract: The surgical instrument includes a distal tool, an elongated shaft that supports the distal tool, and a proximal handle or control member, where the tool and the handle are coupled to the respective distal and proximal ends of the elongated shaft via distal and proximal bendable motion members. Actuation means extends between said distal and proximal members whereby any deflection of said control handle with respect to said elongated instrument shaft causes a corresponding bending of said distal motion member for control of said working member. The proximal bendable member comprises a ball and socket assembly supported between the handle and instrument shaft and constructed and arranged for three dimensional motion.

  • Patent number: 7604586
Abstract: A method and device for applying a radioactive source to a tissue site is disclosed. The device facilitates the precise placement of, for example, 125Iodine seeds relative to the surgical margin, assures the seeds remain fixed in their precise position for the duration of the treatment, overcomes the technical difficulties of manipulating the seeds through the narrow surgical incision, and reduces the radiation dose to the clinicians. The device incorporates the radioactive seeds into a fastening means, preferably surgical staples, used in the surgical procedure. In this way, the seeds are concurrently secured in position directly adjacent to the surgical resection and remain immobile.

  • Patent number: 7578077
Abstract: A shoe sole construction adapted to absorb and store impact energy and including a shoe sole that has a heel portion and a forefoot portion. The forefoot portion includes the toe of the sole. The shoe sole includes a base member and at least one pressure plate for receiving a wearer's foot. A first pivot is disposed between the base member and the pressure plate. The first pivot is disposed at the toe of the sole. A bladder is provided to receive and store impact energy delivered thereto, and is disposed at the heel portion of the shoe sole and positioned to be compressed under the impact energy imposed thereupon by the pressure plate. A locking mechanism is disposed at the forefoot portion, between the base member and pressure plate. The locking mechanism is responsive to a compression of the bladder and released during the propulsive phase of the wearer's gait to return stored energy for release during the propulsive phase.

  • Patent number: 7372776
Abstract: A transduction apparatus, which employs an array of individual transducers that generates multiple acoustic radiation modes, is described. These modes are used together to yield directional steered beam patterns. In one embodiment separate transducers, clustered in the form of a ring array, are used together to generate wide and narrow cardioid type beam patterns through combined monopole, dipole and quadrupole radiation modes in the medium, along with at least one tail mass.

  • Patent number: 7364582
Abstract: An endoscopic or laparoscopic instrument includes a distal tool, a rigid or flexible elongated shaft that supports the distal tool, and a proximal handle or control member, where the tool and the handle are coupled to the respective distal and proximal ends of the elongated shaft via bendable motion members. The tool and the tool motion member are coupled to the handle and the handle motion member via cables and a push rod in such a way that the movement of the handle with respect to the elongated shaft in any direction is replicated by the tool at the distal end of the shaft. The magnitude of the tool motion with respect to the handle motion may be scaled depending on the size of the handle motion member with respect to that of the tool motion member.
