Abstract: A current transformer for alternating current with direct current components is proposed, consisting of at least one transformer core with a primary winding and at least one secondary winding to which a burden resistor is connected in parallel and terminates a secondary circuit with low resistance. The transformer core comprises a closed ring core with no air gap produced from a strip made of an amorphous ferromagnetic alloy that is practically free from magnetostriction and has permeability &mgr;<1400. Particularly appropriate alloys for such a strip ring core have been shown to be cobalt-based alloys consisting essentially of the formula
Coa(Fe1-xMnx)bNicXdSieBfCg.

with 15≦d+e+f+g≦30 and 0≦x<1.

Abstract: This invention relates to a fishing reel (10) which comprises a reel body (12), a spool (14) rotatable relative to the reel body, a handle (16) for rotating the spool, and a drive bearing (32) connecting the handle to the spool. The drive bearing (32) is in the form of a ball-bearing including a plurality of balls (34) which are mounted to the handle (16) and which are arranged to rotate so that rotation of the handle (16) at a first velocity is transferred to the spool (14) at a second velocity greater than the first velocity.

The composition of the alloy essentially corresponds to the formula FeaCobCucSidBeMf, where M is at least one of the elements V, Nb, Ta, Ti, Mo, W, Zr, and Hf; and a, b, c, d, e, and f are indicated in atom percent and meet the following conditions: 0.5≦c≦2; 6.5≦d≦18; 5≦e≦14; 1≦f≦6; with d+e>18 and 0≦b≦15, and a+b+c+d+e+f=100.
Abstract: A unique Hall-Current ion source apparatus is used for direct ion beam deposition of DLC coatings with hardness values greater than 10 GPa and at deposition rates greater than 10 Å per second. This ion source has a unique fluid-cooled anode with a shadowed gap through which ion sources feed gases are introduced while depositing gases are injected into the plasma beam. The shadowed gap provides a well maintained, electrically active area at the anode surface which stays relatively free of non-conductive deposits. The anode discharge region is insulatively sealed to prevent discharges from migrating into the interior of the ion source. A method is described in which a substrate is disposed within a vacuum chamber, coated with a coating of DLC or Si-DLC at a high deposition rate using a Hall-Current ion source operating on carbon-containing or carbon-containing and silicon-containing precursor gases, respectively.

Abstract: A floating inflatable device which is to be able to be inflated on the surface of liquid and which for this purpose comprises inflation means including an on-board source of pressurized gas, wherein said inflation means comprise a venturi supplied by said source of pressurized gas and capable of entraining ambient air which contributes to the inflating of the device, and wherein said venturi inflation means, being mounted on a wall of said device, are protected by protective means covering them in such a way as to allow ambient air to pass freely while at the same time preventing liquid from being able to gain entry to the device to any appreciable extent.

Abstract: Assemblies for control of fluid flow are described. The assemblies permit angular adjustment of resilient biasing mechanisms through translation of one of their ends along the assembly exteriors. Although the resilient mechanisms normally facilitate covering a bypass inlet so as to close it with a flap, the mechanisms may be latched with the bypass inlet open.
Abstract: The invention relates to a system and a method for controlling physical activity while dieting. A computer (14) with a screen (20) and a connected scale (24) providing a plate (26) used for intake of food by a user (28) is used to determine a best level of dieting for the user (28). The dieting level is correlated with a level for warming or cooling the body of a user. This provides that additional physical activity for a certain level of dieting is prevented and raised, respectively, in order to achieve a best possible and healthy diet mode.
Abstract: A reactance coil (1) has an annular core (2) on which reactance coils are wound. Said reactance coils (3) are divided up into coil sectors 6 (4) that are separated from each other by means of gaps (5) in the windings. The gaps (5) in the windings reduce reactance coil (3) capacity and the reactance coils (3) have resonances with higher maximum values for impedance and greater bandwidths.
Abstract: The apparatus is for batching different flowable materials, e.g. “small chemicals” in the correct proportions by weight. A plurality of bulk material supply stations 14 are connected to a compact, space filling array of weighing hoppers 18 via relatively short screw 20 and/or vibratory conveyors 22. As shown, two conveyors serve each weighing 10 hopper 18. The weighing hoppers 18 are mounted upon off-centre load cells 24 and discharge into a containment cone 36 and a discharge funnel 37 for leading the weighed material batches into bagging apparatus 38.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing a strip-shaped superconductor with several conductor cores made of a high-Tc superconducting material and surrounded by a normal conducting material. A conductor blank (2a) produced from a fabricated conductor should be rolled flat at least once. For that purpose, the conductor blank is fed into the gap (7) between two rollers (8, 9) of which the rolling surfaces (8a, 9a) describe a concave, at least approximately elliptical contour at least in the rolling region (8a). The strip-shaped multi-core conductor produced in this way advantageously contains superconducting cores made of a bi-cuprate embedded in an Ag matrix.

Abstract: A multi-ply label structure is especially, although not necessarily, adapted for affixation to a vessel. The multi-ply label is intended to protect a game piece, coupon, or other material from moisture and other detrimental external environments before affixation to the vessel. As a result, the bottle can be immersed in water for an extended period without destroying the integrity of the label structure.

Abstract: A line spacer for use between power transmission lines to maintain the lines at a set spacing front each other includes at least two spaced jaws and a lever action closure mechanism operable to close the jaws after engaging of the spacer onto adjacent lines, to fix the spacer in position between the lines.
Abstract: Padlocks adapted for one-handed operation are disclosed. Typically having a laterally asymmetric shackle, the lock includes an arm connected thereto so as to pivot when the locking mechanism is disengaged. A spring or other component facilitates latching of the device by biasing the arm toward an exposed end of the shackle.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to brazing filler metals that can be used in the infiltration brazing of porous matrix materials without the need for a flux. The brazing filler metals contain two different Group II metals and a third metal of Group 9 and 10. A particular brazing filler metal of the invention contains silver, copper, and nickel. The invention is also directed to composite materials formed by infiltration of the brazing material into a porous matrix, and to methods for preparing the composite materials. The invention is further directed to composite articles fabricated from composite materials, including steel bearings or bushings, and to methods of preparing the composite articles.
Abstract: A thread guiding wheel for use in textile machinery has a circumferential slot (8) adapted to receive a given yarn; the circumferential slot is generally V-shaped in section, having axially opposed walls (6, 7) which, in a radially inwards direction, converge to a base at which the walls intersect, the base of the V being sufficiently sharp to grip, between the axially opposed walls, a part of said yarn extending about at least a part of the circumference of the wheel.
Abstract: Deflectors for inflatabe watercraft or other objects are disclosed. The deflectors themselves may be inflatable and distinct from the crafts to which they are attached. They thus may be used to increase the height of the crafts without changing the dimensions of the tubes from which the crafts are formed or diminishing the cockpit space available within the crafts.
Abstract: Three-dimensional structures are preferably formed of folded printed material which becomes three-dimensional and exhibits a shadowbox effect when in the open position, but which remains substantially two-dimensional when closed. The structures are formed from a base sheet having a plurality of fold-lines that define a plurality of panels. Two panels are hinged and may be opened to display one or more tiers, which are defined by additional panels. Optionally, one or more panels may have cutout sections, particularly the panels forming the tiers, thereby providing a tiered shadowbox effect.
