Abstract: A deflectable safety shield extends transversely across a cutting plane in a protective guard position completely overlying the cutting edge of a utility knife. A portion of the shield extends over-center with respect to the cutting edge, thereby tending to hold the shield in the guard position in response to contact of the shield against the operator at the normal angle of engagement during follow-through that accompanies rapid slicing hand movements. The shield is resiliently biased for movement to the guard position by a torsion spring. An outwardly-turned flange portion of the shield provides an angularly offset leverage point for reacting the torsion spring when the operator desires to perform a cutting operation. The shield swings away from the cutting plane automatically in response to pressure engagement of the offset flange portion against the box surface, thus exposing the cutting edge.
Abstract: Passenger boats are mounted on an undercarriage assembly that includes rail-mounted centering wheels. The passenger boats are accelerated by linear induction drive motors mounted on a guide rail structure. Thrust is applied to the racing boats by magnetically conductive reaction plates that are attached to the undercarriage assembly and are movable through linear flux slots formed in the induction stators of the linear induction motors. The submerged guide track structure is arranged in various closed loop courses, including “Figure-Eight,” an hour-glass, serpentine and oval patterns, as well as parallel guide track structures that extend between a launch station and a return station. A dual “Figure-Eight” watercourse includes a simulated jump ramp and an underground tunnel arrangement. In the continuous loop guide structure, two or more boats are launched and separation is maintained by a safety block arrangement.
Abstract: An existing protective duct contains a bundle of guide tubes through which fiber optic cables are run to customers at existing service locations. In order to run a cable to a new customer at a different service location, the duct is cut at a branch point and a short section of the duct is removed to expose the guide tubes. An unused guide tube is cut and serially connected to a branch guide tube leading to the new service location. The protective duct sidewall is restored at the branch point by a splittable Y-branch connector that includes complementary housing sections, an inlet opening, an outlet opening and at least one branch opening. Splittable coupling collars seal the branch connector housing sections around the respective cut end portions of the existing duct. The Y-branch connector also includes a branch stub that is sealed around the branch guide tube.

Abstract: A kiln has a control box pivotably coupled to an oven portion via a hinge at a lower end of the control box so that the control box can pivot about the hinge from a closed position adjacent the oven portion to an open position where an upper end of the control box is separated from the oven portion. The control box houses electronic controller components. A chimney portion is attached to the oven portion and is separated from the upper end of the control box when the control box is in the open position. The control box pivots about the hinge along a generally horizontal axis. A linkage is coupled between the control box and the oven portion to limit the pivotal movement range of the control box at the open position.

Abstract: A variable ratio rocker arm is provided for use in combination with the valve stem and push rod of an internal combustion engine. The rocker arm has a toothed rack. A fulcrum rod is provided with a toothed sector. A stationary support member has a rod seat. The fulcrum rod toothed sector engages the toothed rack of the rocker arm and the rod seat of the stationary support shaft. An operating arm is coupled to the fulcrum rod for simultaneously rotating and translating the fulcrum rod along the toothed rack of the rocker arm and the rod seat of the stationary support shaft. The operating arm causes the fulcrum rod to rotate and translate along the mating toothing from one point of pivotal engagement, corresponding to a first engine operating condition, to another point of pivotal engagement, corresponding to a second engine operating condition.
Abstract: A hanging pocket product display system includes an elongated base member, a hanger and a pocket member. The elongated base member has holes formed therein along at least a portion of the base member. The hanger has a first end, a central portion and a second end. The first end of the hanger is adapted to be removably inserted into at least one of the holes in the base member, such that the first end of the hanger can pivot within the at least one hole, such that the hanger can pivot about the first hanger end relative to the base member, and such that the second hanger end traverses along an arc when the hanger pivots about the first hanger end. The pocket member comprises a pocket formed thereon, and the pocket member is adapted to hang on the hanger.
Abstract: A roof-mounted wind turbine includes turbine vanes that are linear-shaped and do not have the conventional convex curvature. Additionally, the turbine vanes are made in common with one another or with a common turbine component, so that each vane does not require individual handling nor individual attachment to the turbine assembly as is required in the construction of conventional wind turbines that are commercially available today. This is accomplished by producing the vanes by molding or extruding techniques that are commonly used in making plastic assemblies or components.
Abstract: An adjustable bent sub assembly is provided comprising a tubular adaptor for connection with the stator of a downhole motor, a tubular adjusting ring for altering the angular offset of the assembly, and a tubular offset sub for connection with the bearing and bit assemblies. A tubular mandrel is positioned internal of this stack of components. The mandrel is threadably connected at its upper end with the adaptor and at its lower end with the offset sub. The mandrel and ring have a spline connection. The ring and offset sub have disengagable dog clutch means connection them. The mandrel is transversely bent at a point along its length as is the offset sub. The ring has an angled or canted bottom end face. The combination of bending the internal mandrel, bending the offset sub and canting the end face of the ring results in the effective or resultant bend point of the assembly being closer to its lower end.
Abstract: A utility knife and various manufacturing methods for the utility knife. In one embodiment, the utility knife includes: (1) a body having a cutting face and (2) a blade-holding slide mounted for linear movement within the body and having a knife-holding head extendable through an opening in the cutting face. The opening has aparallel opposing sides that diverge toward a cutting direction of the utility knife. The knife-holding head has corresponding aparallel opposing sides that cooperate with the sides of the opening to cause a cutting force exerted on the knife-holding head to wedge the blade-holding slide within the opening and thereby stiffen the knife-holding head with respect to the body during operation of the utility knife. In one embodiment of the present invention, the blade-holding slide resiliently urges the knife-holding head to unwedge when the cutting force is removed therefrom.
Abstract: A buoyant lounge chair supports a swimmer in an upright, semi-reclining or fully reclining position while the chair is floating in a swimming pool. Interconnected rigid frame members collectively form an open chair frame including a seat frame, left and right arm frames attached to the seat frame, and a back frame pivotally coupled to the seat frame. The back frame is pivotally coupled to the seat frame on opposite sides by dual axle shafts. A manually operable clutch is mounted on each axle shaft for releasably connecting the seat frame to the back frame. Each clutch is manually releasable to permit pivotal movement of the back frame relative to the seat frame, and is manually engagable to fix the angle of recline of the back frame with respect to the seat frame.
Abstract: Broadband integrated services are performed via digital, channelized or optically coded networks by a system which organizes, interfaces, provisions, loads and controls, in real time, the transport of grouped or organized information (such as packetized cell data) through interface access devices and packet switches that are compliant with domestic and international communication standards. A packet core network includes multiple packet switches and interface access devices coupled to an existing narrowband or broadband network. A signaling manager, a provisioning manager and a traffic manager perform all broadband and narrowband routing, port provisioning and connecting functions for all network devices. A set of software interface modules for each equipment vendor allows the provisioning manager, the signaling manager and the traffic manager to impose control demands and make network management decisions on a real time basis via an application protocol interface.
Abstract: A bale processor for cutting or dicing a bale or slab of unvulcanized rubber produces small cubes or blocks of a predetermined size and uniform shape for continuous feeding at a predetermined rate into a mixing machine or blender. A bale or slab of feedstock rubber is advanced incrementally along a slider platform and a segment is sliced from the leading end of the bale. After separation, the segment falls onto a receiving panel from which it is transferred by a vacuum pick-up head to a vacuum hold-down table. Multiple slices are then formed through the segment along the X-axis by circular cutting blades of an X-axis cutter head, thereby forming elongated segment strips. Next, multiple slices are formed through the segment strips in the Y-direction by a Y-axis cutter head which includes circular cutter blades that are extendable and retractable along the Y-axis.
Abstract: A wagering card game is played with a standard fifty-two card poker deck and a count limit card that is permanently assigned as the third card of the dealer's hand. Each player makes a bet. Three cards are dealt face down to each player, to the dealer and to the bonus hand. The players inspect their cards and have the option of trading one card. The dealer burns his top card and reveals his first two cards. The dealer's third card is a count limit card or the representation of a count limit card having a predetermined count value (for example 3) that is imprinted on the count limit card or on the playing surface, and is displayed at all times. The dealer combines his dealt cards with his count limit card and states his total. He then turns over each player's cards one at a time, compares each player's hand with the dealer's hand, determines whether the player is a loser or winner, pays or collects on the winner's and loser's hands, respectively.
