Abstract: A method of operating a computer causes information to be presented through visual displays using alternate mode of expression. The method is practiced by application software which operates on a general purpose computer. The application software separates concept data from expression data. Concept data identify information which the software intends to present in a visual display, without specifying any particular one of a plurality of forms of expression that might be used to express the concept data. Expression data cause the visual display to form images in accordance with a specific mode of expression. A user specifies the expression modes to utilize while operating the application program. For example, linguistic information may be presented in English, Spanish, German, French, or other languages, and graphic information may be presented in color or in black and white. Expression tables which translate concept data into expression data are loaded into primary storage.
Abstract: A method quickly identifies an irregular graphic shape displayed on a video terminal. In an "off-line" operation, the method associates transparent regular graphic shapes, such as boxes, with the irregular graphic shapes. The regular graphic shapes do not overlap one another and are shaped, sized, and located so that one or more of the regular graphic shapes together approximate each irregular graphic shape. The regular graphic shapes are defined in a data table which includes a single data node for each of the regular graphic shapes. During the execution of an application computer program, the irregular graphic shapes are displayed at the video terminal, but the regular graphic shapes are not displayed. In addition, the application computer program manages a video pointer in real time so that a user may move the video pointer to any location on the display of the video terminal. The program investigates the table of regular graphic shapes to select a node corresponding to a regular graphic shape.
Abstract: Disc shaped cleaning pads for use on cleaning apparatus, consisting of a supporting core to which a sponge is affixed. The sponge is a microporous material made from a hydroxylated polymer, the physical properties of which can be modified in the chemical growing process.
Abstract: A face mask includes a cup-shaped body for enclosing an external respiratory organ, such as the nose, of a patient. Flow of a respirable gas into the body and exhaust of expired gas from the body are unidirectional controlled by respiration check valves. A plurality of detachably securable and interchangeable accessory devices adapt the mask for use with selected prior art scavenging devices.

Abstract: An inexpensive torque wrench is installed on a particular object, such as an electrical cable connector, so that the object may be fastened to a counterpart by applying a torque that is within a predetermined torque range. The wrench is preferably formed as a single molded plastic unit. The wrench includes a ring-shaped collar and at least two fins extending outwardly from the collar on opposing sides thereof. The interior of the wrench is hollow and surrounded by an interior wall of the collar. The interior wall is dimensioned to tightly mate with the particular object on which it is installed. The fins are dimensioned to support the predetermined torque range and angled so that a slightly greater counterclockwise torque than clockwise torque may be applied. When the wrench is installed on the object, it may be removed by breaking off the fins so that the collar may then be separated into two halves.
Abstract: A quick release clamp having two crescent halves coupled at one end by a hinge and a spreader spring at the opposite end. A cam follower is coupled to the spring end of the crescent halves and configured to receive a handle. A handle, containing a cam configured to engage the cam follower, which when parallel to the hinge does not engage the cam and the clamp is open, and when rotated a quarter turn engages the cam and closes the clamp.
Abstract: An egg breaking mechanism is provided which comprises an egg receiver for receiving an egg thereof, an egg presser arranged above the egg receiver for pressing the egg against the egg receiver, a knife assembly for making a cut in the egg shell, and a cup assembly arranged below the egg receiver for receiving the discharged content of the egg. The egg receiver includes a pair of receiver members movable toward and away from each other, and each of the receiver members has a knife mount which is integrally formed with a lateral pin support tube. The knife assembly includes a pair of knife members each pivotally connected to the knife mount by means of a connecting pin inserted into the pin support tube.
Abstract: A portable collapsible shelter for use at sporting events and the like includes a flexible enclosure having a viewing window in one wall thereof. The enclosure is supported by a frame which includes a vertical support pole and a plurality of ribs hinged for movement from a collapsed position alongside the pole to an extended position nearly perpendicular to the pole. The enclosure is left in place over frame when the ribs are collapsed, and folded into a compact storage packet which is secured with a fastening band.
Abstract: A seat cushion for prolonged sitting, having a thigh cushion coupled to and spaced apart from a back cushion. A seat well is defined between the thigh cushion and the back cushion to remove pressure from the buttocks region. Coupling members couple the thigh cushion and the back cushion, and extend there between on either side of the seat well.
Abstract: A base plate having a top surface, wear blocks attached to at least two sides of the top surface defining a recess, and attachment member for attaching the base plate to an endless conveyor. A graphic cover plate containing indicia, aligned within the recess, and removably affixed to the top surface of the base plate.
Abstract: An inner housing telescopingly receivable by an outer housing for movement between an extended and a retracted position, biasing means for urging the inner housing into the extended position, and a lockable latch assembly for retaining the inner housing in the retracted position. A cut-out formed in the inner housing for receiving the electrical connector of an electrical appliance when in the extended position, and securably containing the electrical connector when in the closed position.
Abstract: A tamper-resistant terminator includes a connector body rotatably encapsulated within a shield. A port in the shield receives a terminal of a cable transmission system therethrough for rotational engagement with a threaded bore within the connector body. Another port in the shield provides access to a socket defined by a smooth continuous cylindrical surface. The socket and the threaded bore extend in opposite directions along a longitudinal axis about which the shield is freely rotatable. A tool includes a tubular shaft having a knurled portion at the free end extends from a first handle section. A disc residing adjacent the end of the tubular shaft is carried by a shaft rotatably journaled with the tubular shaft and drivingly engaged with a second handle section.
Abstract: A thermal actuator, also known as a heat capacitance motor, derives its energy from the physical expansion of paraffin wax as it changes from solid to liquid when heated within an enclosure such as a cylinder. This energy is converted into mechanical force which causes translation of a piston slidably mounted within the cylinder, thus creating hydrostatic pressure which is converted to work. The thermal actuator may be utilized in various drug delivery systems in which the hydrostatic pressure created by the actuator is used expel the contents of a syringe.
Abstract: An adaptor having an outlet is used to couple a waterline to a tank of a toilet. A flow regulator valve is coupled to the adaptor to regulate water flow from the waterline to a nozzle assembly attached to a seat of said toilet. A flow release valve couples the nozzle assembly to the flow regulator valve.
