Abstract: Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHOD) inhibititon assays are utilized in a method for identifying new fungicides; DHOD inhibitors are useful in fungicidal methods and compositions. Resistance genes that are mutants of the wild-type Aspergillus nidulans dihydroorotate dehydrogenase gene have been isolated and found to impart resistance to certain DHOD inhibitors. The resistance genes are useful as selectable markers in fungi. The wild-type gene is also provided.

Abstract: N-arylsulfilimine compounds, such as S,S-dimethyl-N-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)sulfilimine, were prepared and found to catalyze the reaction of aromatic sulfonyl chloride compounds, such as 2-chlorosulfonyl-7-fluoro-5-ethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidine, with aromatic amine compounds, such as 2,6-dichloroaniline, to form N-arylarylsulfonamide compounds, such as N-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-7-fluoro-5-ethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]-pyrimidine- 2-sulfonamide. The aryl moiety of the N-arylsulfilimine catalyst and the aryl moiety of the aromatic amine compound were generally chosen to be identical.

The graft copolymer spontaneously absorbs organic pesticides with low water solubility upon simple mixing. The resulting product is much more stable to coalescence than emulsions made with conventional or polymeric surfactants.Emulsifiable organic based concentrates, having a continuous oil phase, which are formed from admixtures of pesticidally active water-insoluble organic pesticides with graft copolymers can be diluted with or in water, thus, inverting the continuous oil phase to stable water based oil-in-water emulsions of the active pesticide.
