  • Patent number: 5772449
Abstract: A connector for connection to bus conductors comprises terminals that have a pair of contact sections mounted on supple springs. The contact sections are for biasing against exposed conductors of a bus line. The redundancy provided by the two remotely spaced contact sections ensures high connection reliability, in particular in view of the exposure of the bus line conductors to dirt or damage to the contact surface.

  • Patent number: 5733147
Abstract: A SIM card connector (2) comprises a housing (4) and two sets (8, 10) of terminals (6). The terminal sets (8, 10) are held together by overmoulded support portions (18) which are then mounted to receiving cavities (44) of the housing (4). The terminals (6) are interleaved and angled for a compact disposition for electrical connection to parallel rows of aligned SIM card contact pads. Sides (52, 54) of the outer periphery (50) of the housing (4) are inclined at the same angle as the terminals (6) such than a small connector surface are is provided. • Patent number: 5711687
Abstract: A tab terminal comprises an inner contact body and an outer spring body having a locking lance. The outer body is mounted over the inner body in a vertical direction, whereby inwardly bent tabs of the inner contact body receive a side wall of the outer body, the other side wall of the outer body having a clinching tab that engages in a cutout of the inner contact body. The latter enables a very simple assembly procedure that reduces assembly time, tool complication, and therefore production costs.

  • Patent number: 5712569
Abstract: A terminal assembly tester comprises a contact probe module having electrical contact probes. The contact probes have a contact surface biasable against tips of electrical terminal mounted in cavities of a connector housing. The connector housing comprises integrally moulded resilient locking lances that are separated from housings walls by a slot. Extensions of the contact probes are insertable into the housing slots when contacting the terminal tips. If a terminal is not fully inserted into a cavity, the resilient locking lances are biased into the slot and prevent insertion of the contact probe tip thereinto thereby ensuring that the contact probe does not electrically contact the terminal. The latter thus ensures that even almost completely inserted terminals will not be electrically contacted and thus provides for a reliable testing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5709562
Abstract: A sealed ZIF connector for mating to a complementary connector with an internal PCB is for use with non-gold-plated terminals for a cost effective design. Such a connector may be for use in an automobile, for connection to a motor management electronics module. The connector is provided with a pivotable camming member having an oval camming surface positioned between contact arms of the terminals. In the pre-mated condition the camming surface spreads the terminal contact arms apart and the connectors can be coupled until the end of the PCB is almost against the camming surface. Upon rotation of the camming mechanism, the cam releases the contacts which bias against the PCB, whereby the cam subsequently abuts the end of the PCB to slightly separate the connectors. Separation of the connectors causes a wiping action between the contacts and the PCB to clean the surfaces from oxidation layers. The latter thus allows use of tin plated contacts for ZIF connectors.

  • Patent number: 5647761
Abstract: A holder for a lamp bulb comprises an insulating housing having a terminal receiving part and a socket for the lamp bulb. The terminal receiving part defines first, second and third terminal receiving cavities opening into a terminal receiving end of the housing. Another of the cavities receives an electrical terminal having a slot for receiving the other lead of the diode and a further slot for receiving a first supply lead. When these two terminals have been inserted into their cavities, a third terminal is inserted into its cavity, after the leads of the diode have been securely lodged in the diode receiving slots of the first two terminals. The third terminal has a spring contact beam which projects into the socket for engaging the other contact of the bulb, and a slot for receiving a second supply lead.

  • Patent number: 5624283
Abstract: An electrical terminal comprises an inner contact body and an outer spring body. The outer spring body is box-shaped and encloses the inner contact body. The outer spring body comprises spring beams edge-stamped out of top and bottom walls respectively. Protrusions are positioned centrally along the spring beams, and project beyond side walls of the outer spring body such that when the terminal is inserted into a corresponding housing cavity, the protrusions interfere with walls thereof. The spring beams are thus resiliently biased and the terminal is resiliently held within the housing cavity such that chattering of the terminal therein is prevented. Vibration movements parallel to the top and bottom walls causes the spring beams to act in the plane of the metal, and vibration movements perpendicular thereto cause the spring beams to act in torsion. Due to the edge-stamping of the spring beams out of top and bottom walls, they are very simple to manufacture, yet very effective, robust and reliable.

  • Patent number: 5624289
Abstract: A receptacle terminal comprises a conductor connection section and a contact section for receiving a male tab terminal therein. Reversely bent pairs of contact arms extending from forward and rearward ends of a cover wall are provided. Free ends of the contact arms rest upon a ledge struck from side walls of the contact section for prestressing the contact beams. The latter increases the contact pressure of contacts against the mating male tab terminal whilst nevertheless reducing the mating insertion forces thereof. The reversely bent-in and opposed contact arms provide for a compact design with a large number of contact points thereby enabling passage of high electrical currents.

  • Patent number: 5622515
Abstract: A set of electrical terminals is provided for interconnecting and grounding electrical leads of a harness, for example an automotive engine harness. Each terminal comprises two spaced pairs of spring beams defining a pair of aligned, insulation displacement slots for receiving a common electrical lead. The spring beams of each pair are defined by a pair of juxtaposed loops. The loops of all of the terminals are connected together to provide a cage-like structure by a front wall, a rear wall and a base. One end of each loop is connected to the front wall and the other end of each loop is connected to the rear wall. Lead strain relief ferrules project rearwardly from the base and the rear wall in a single row in closely spaced relationship. The rear wall is secured to the base by means of a flange which has been struck out from the base and which engages over a neck connecting one of the ferrules to the rear wall.

  • Patent number: 5618204
Abstract: A panel mount connector comprises a panel mount component and a movable component. The panel mount connector can be mounted to a panel by a combined sealing and provisional mounting ring. The movable connector part comprises a terminal receiving housing and a bayonet type rotatable locking ring having a first axial position allowing mounting of a rubber boot to the housing, the locking ring retractable to a second position partially extending over the rubber boot in order to prevent it from being accidentally pulled off the housing. The connectors can then be mated together by aligning keying means of the housing with corresponding keying means of the panel connector housing, axially moving the housings together, and then rotating the bayonet type locking ring until an end position whereby the sealing ring is compressed between a flange of the locking ring and the panel for sealing therebetween.
