  • Patent number: 5576777
Abstract: A frame for eyeglasses has interchangeable lenses in which the lenses are connected to a front element of the frame which is supplied with rigid supports that contain a snap-fitting groove which creates an interference connection. The frame also includes rings on each side which yield elastically in a circumferential direction, and which attach along the peripheral edge of the lenses. The rings are pressed into the supports through elastic interference, in such a way that the lenses are connected structurally to the frame, but can be removed through the action of the snap-fitting connection.

  • Patent number: 5570736
Abstract: A process for continuously casting steel slabs employing a molten steel containing an oxygen concentration of 30 ppm or less, preferably, 20 ppm or less, using a straight immersion nozzle to which an inert gas is not injected, and disposing a static magnetic field generator on the back surface of the mold for applying the strong static magnetic field to the molten steel within the mold, thereby restricting the flow of the molten steel. With this process, it is possible to prevent the nozzle blocking, and hence to obtain the steel slabs excellent in the internal and surface qualities.

  • Patent number: 5570940
Abstract: A quick attach door system for enclosing a doorless shelved structure, such as a cabinet, wherein the shelves are supported by a number of apertured uprights which are used to accept the installation of a pair of vertically spaced door support members, each door support member being provided with apertured upright attachment members and with a door supporting structure, the door supporting members having portions extending outwardly of the upright members, a pair of door-halves being supported by the door support members, wherein the door-halves are coupled to the door support members by hinge devices that are retractable to permit installation and removability of the door-halves. The hinge devices can be secured to prevent retractability once the door-halves are shut and locked. Door striker plates serve as door stops when the door is in a closed position and magnets disposed within the door adjacent the door striker plates secure the doors in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 5567509
Abstract: For producing connections made from composite material for structures having at least two hollow or non-hollow bars, interconnected by at least one hollow connecting joint, separate production takes place of blanks of said different parts with the definitive shapes, but in which the impregnation resin for the assembly of said blanks has not yet been introduced, after which they are assembled by thermosetting resin transfer molding, so as to produce the resin matrix of the connecting joint or the complete structure at the same time as the assembly. The blanks of the connecting joints are obtained by compressing a planar textile complex formed from hot preformable textile fibers between a cavity of a shaping mold and a countermold, by cutting and folding down onto the countermold the overlap parts and performing a thermal preforming cycle.

  • Patent number: 5560310
Abstract: A control unit incorporated in a stabilizing system in yachts and sailing vessels and intended automatically to control the movements of a weight which is movable transversely across the vessel, said wight being connected with an athwartships tiltable mast in such a manner, that the weight is displaced transversely across the vessel in a direction opposite to the mast tilting direction. The control unit comprises two stops arranged to stop the movements of the weight, and further comprises a shifting device which is actuated by the position of the wight so that one of the stops is given an opportunity to act, i.e. to stop the movements of the weight, when the weight is positioned to one side of the centre line of the vessel in the transverse direction thereof whereas the second stop is then not given an opportunity to stop the movements of the weight, and vice versa. Each stop is controlled by a sensing device responsive to the movements of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 5560146
Abstract: An automatic trap for catching cockroach independently of the size, volume or weight thereof, comprising a box with cockroach collecting cavity having an upper surface with a trap opening, at least two separate coplanar plates being provided to close said trap opening in a close position. Each plate has an electrical conducting portion connected to a control circuit which, in turn, is connected to a driving mechanism capable of being actuated to move the plates away from each other into an open position for uncovering the trap opening and providing access to the cockroach collecting cavity. When a cockroach simultaneously touches the electrical conducting portions of the plates, the portions are put into electrical contact because of the conductivity provided by the cockroach body, so that the driving mechanism is excited by the control circuit to move the plates to their open position.

  • Patent number: 5560583
Abstract: An arm (2) on which to mount an extractor and other equipment, the arm (2) is hinged by its inner end (9) to a support (17) with the intermediary of a mounting bracket (14), so as to be allowed to pivot essentially in the horizontal plane. A retaining device (18) acts between the arm (2) and the mounting bracket (14) to retain the arm in the set pivotal position. The retaining device (18) includes a rod (24) which carries friction washers (23) and which may be actuated by an actuator (20) via a rotationally mounted yoke (38) in order to move the friction washers (23) from their retaining frictional engagement with a plate (34) connected to the mounting bracket (14) and thereby allow the arm (2) to be pivoted as desired. The power actuator (20) is remote-controlled by a control unit positioned on the extraction hood of the extractor.

  • Patent number: 5558301
Abstract: In order that the acceleration suffered by the occupant (O) of an aircraft, particularly a rotary-wing aircraft seat in the case of an accident remains below a humanly withstandable limit, no matter what the size of said occupant, a seat is proposed in which a height regulation of the pan or bucket (16), in which the occupant is received, also has the effect of modifying the inclination of the energy absorbers (38). Thus, the vertical component of the retaining force exerted on the pan (16) by said absorbers decreases with the size of the occupant, which leads to the desired result.
