Abstract: The virtual supercomputer is an apparatus, system and method for generating information processing solutions to complex and/or high-demand/high-performance computing problems, without the need for costly, dedicated hardware supercomputers, and in a manner far more efficient than simple grid or multiprocessor network approaches. The virtual supercomputer consists of a reconfigurable virtual hardware processor, an associated operating system, and a set of operations and procedures that allow the architecture of the system to be easily tailored and adapted to specific problems or classes of problems in a way that such tailored solutions will perform on a variety of hardware architectures, while retaining the benefits of a tailored solution that is designed to exploit the specific and often changing information processing features and demands of the problem at hand.

Abstract: Techniques are provided herein to produce encoded video bitstreams and to similarly decode encoded video bitstreams according to a coding standard not supported by an on-chip encoder/decoder. For purposes of encoding, a video sequence is received at a first device. A first bitstream is generated at the first device by encoding the video sequence according to a first coding standard and information associated with the video sequence is generated at the first device according to a second coding standard. The first bitstream and the information are then transmitted to a second device. At the second device the first bitstream is decoded to produce a second bitstream. The second bitstream and the information are combined by removing syntax elements associated with the first coding standard from the second bitstream and adding the information to produce a third bitstream according to the second coding standard. Similar techniques are provided for decoding an encoded bitstream to recover a video sequence.
Abstract: A method and system of the present invention determines the performance values of components of a flow by taking the interactions between the components into account, and visualizes the performance values on a graphical user interface during a flow design phase. Thus, interactions between the components of the flow become transparent to the user and bottlenecks can be identified immediately.

Abstract: Systems and methods for delivering real-time video imagery to a receiver over a channel. A current video frame is captured and digitized. The digitized frame is divided into a plurality of macroblocks. For each macroblock an intra, inter or skip mode coding mode is determined. Based on instantaneous feedback received from a receiver regarding successfully received video packets for a prior video frame, a quantization parameter is set and the macroblocks are encoded in accordance with their respective selected coding mode. Synchronized error concealment is performed at both the encoder and decoder sides of the system and retransmission of lost video packets, using an adaptive retransmission scheme, are performed in accordance with the instantaneous feedback from the receiver.

Abstract: Systems and methods for assigning a short codes to provide uniformity among wireless carriers. In the systems and methods, a Universal Short Code (USC) Administrator maintains a list of short codes and their lease status so that SMS messages sent to a particular short code may be routed to the proper holder of the short code. A network facilitator is in communication with both the USC Administrator and at least one wireless carrier to route the SMS message to the proper holder of the short code. The short code may be leased for a specified period of time so that the short code can be reassigned after expiration of the lease.

Abstract: An information messaging and collaboration system is described. In one embodiment, for example, a method is described for interactive content retrieval and display, the method comprises steps of: providing a plurality of portlets for retrieval of content for display in a user interface; mapping a message action to a first portlet to create a messaging portlet for sending a message in response to user interaction with the messaging portlet; creating a listener portlet by registering a second portlet to receive messages from the messaging portlet; and in response to user interaction with the messaging portlet, retrieving particular content for display in the user interface based on the message received by the listener portlet from the messaging portlet.
Abstract: A drawing assembly for children includes a housing having a drawing surface and an illumination assembly pivotally connected to the housing and movable between a storage position within a recess in the housing, and a deployed position. The illumination assembly includes an illumination source that is positionable to provide illumination to the drawing surface when in the deployed position.
Abstract: A database security overlay that identifies each network and local access gateway to a database, and monitors each access path from the identified gateways to analyze each connection to the database and block any connections determined to transport unauthorized or undesirable content. Access gateways that establish connections are identifiable by interprocess communication (IPC) mechanisms employed in accessing the database. An evaluator monitors access attempts, while a tapping mechanism on IPC mechanisms that provide the connections captures access attempts from the access gateways. The tapping mechanism intercepts and forwards access attempts to the evaluator to centralize and focus DB paths amid multiple local and external connections on the DB server. A lightweight check for each local access quickly determines if the access attempt warrants further scrutiny.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for improving the performance of a beamforming antenna array in a wireless communications system. By observing a predetermined times of channel spatial signatures, one or more test spatial signatures are generated based on statistical analysis of the observed spatial signatures for predicting channel characteristics. A beamforming weight is derived based on the generated test spatial signatures for beamforming by an antenna subsystem of the wireless communication system.
Abstract: An optical limiting structure includes a metal layer with a single metal particle or a plurality of metal particles spaced from each other so as to form an array, where the metal particles have sizes no greater than about 1000 nanometers. A phase-change material layer is disposed adjacent at least a portion of the metal layer, where the phase-change material layer includes a phase-change material. The optical limiting structure is configured to transition from a first optical state to a second optical state, where the optical limiting structure substantially limits transmittance of light of at least one wavelength through the optical limiting structure at the second optical state, and the at least one wavelength at which the optical limiting structure substantially limits transmittance of light is different from any wavelength of light at which transmittance is substantially limited through the phase-change material prior to integration into the optical limiting structure.

Abstract: Techniques are provided to improve receive beamforming at a wireless communication device that receives energy in a frequency band at M plurality of antennas, where the received energy includes desired signals and interference signals. The wireless communication device has no knowledge of the spatial signatures of the desired signals and interference signals. A weighted sum signal vector is computed from the received signals and a covariance matrix is computed from the receive signals. Eigenvalue decomposition of the covariance matrix is computed to obtain M eigenvalues of corresponding M eigenvectors of the covariance matrix. A correlation rate is computed between the M eigenvectors and the weighted sum signal vector. A combined receive beamforming and nulling weight vector is computed from the M eigenvectors and the weighted sum signal vector and based further on the correlation rate.
Abstract: A hazard indicator including a power-saving control circuit having a transistor with a collector connected via a resistor to the output of the signal processing circuit. In operation, the transistor delivers the clocked control signal for the semiconductor switch as a function of the current-proportional voltage applied to the base of the transistor.

Abstract: Techniques are provided herein to enable monitoring of a real-time transport protocol (RTP) packet flow in devices along the path that the RTP packet flow traversed from a source to a destination. A device that is a source or destination of a RTP packet flow transmits a monitor request message that requests one or more other devices along a path of the RTP packet flow to monitor the RTP packet flow. The device that is the source or destination of the RTP packet flow receives one or more monitoring reports from the one or more other devices along the path of the RTP packet flow. This allows a device that requested monitoring of the RTP packet flow to analyze the monitor reports in order to determine a location of a cause of reduced performance in the RTP packet flow. e.g., missing packets, overly delayed packets, etc.
